How expensive are the tools to do the stamping? I certainly couldn't do it and I am an enthusiast.

While lightning links are traditionally stamped, you could easily make one with a pair of pliers and a Dremel. It's basically just a small piece of metal that fits over the trigger group. Getting caught with an unregistered one (even when it's not in the gun) is a felony, of course.

I am a bit surprised by how much emphasis is put on the lack of metal detector in the hotel, it would be very possible to do the same shooting from an high rise appartment, would all high rise appartment need metal detector? would I need to get myself checked each time I come back home from the groceries or work?

Since guns are largely legal in most states I'm not sure anyone would have made a big deal about it anyway. One of the talking heads on TV brought up a good point about Vegas hosting a huge gun event where people bring lots of guns.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't really a way to monitor how much ammo someone stockpiles... but there may be a limit on how much can be purchased in one transaction.
