A white supremacist group sent threatening letters to a preschool in the next town up from me earlier this year. All because there are educted people of color who send their children there.

My kids attend a copy of that school with many Asian, Middle Eastern, and Black children. The fact that a racial hate group thought it was okay to terroriize a preschool where I live keeps me up at night. The thought of well off people of color being able to spend money to educate their children fills them with anger. So like the despicable pieces of shit they are they threaten their damn children.

Fuck, why is there so much hate in this world?

They were also at a book fair to scare people off a few days ago.

Oh C'mon Dude! A simple Google image search gives this.. (You don't even need to be following the news)

And since when did Mandalay Bay have balconies?

Also, I am no expert in ballistic physics but... Do those windows really look like they were shot? Maybe? Could he have used other methods? like "putty" glass blowing, tactical shit?
The police said he used something similar to a hammer.

My god this news is awfull.

Been sick all day and just woke up and read the news. RIP to all the victims.

Fucking why? That's all I can ask right now. Why the fuck would you so something this horrible to anyone.

We may not know the MO for some time, if ever.

Just another senseless fucking tragedy.

You both did not take into consideration the context of his post and only honed in on the statistics. I understood what he was saying while I read it. Most people on this board is going to know about Nice, France terrorist attack.

No everyday person is going to be driving around in a truck of that size, not to mention it took collaboration from multiple people, not just one. Imagine if there was more than 1 guy doing this, the death toll would be much higher.

The argument is that one person can kill near triple digit amount of people and is more difficult to stop. Not to mention the everyday shootings we have here in U.S is alone for us to keep the fight on with gun control.

I don't understand. The post was factually incorrect. There's no need to post factually incorrect information in this thread. No one responding to that post was doing anything but correcting the factual inaccuracy. I even make many of your points in the post of mine you are quoting so I don't really understand your post

Usually with these types of tragedies, the perpetrator's Facebook/social media accounts are found 24 hours afterwards. Has anything been found yet?

If it wasn't a literal hammer, might have been something like this. They sell them to keep in your car in case you accidentally drive into water and need to break out.

2. Believe it or not, these weapons are legal in Canada. Yet they don't have so many shootings. I propose a system closer to the Canadian system. The main points of their system is they need a license in order to purchase such weapons. This includes needing references who will vouch that you are not a dangerous person. This will allow weapons such as ARs and handguns legal while making it much more difficult for the wrong people to get their hands on them.

This type of weapon is in no way legal in Canada. Does that sound like a 5 round semi automatic to anyone?

I think you are on to something. These mods should be illegal with the same felony status of having a unregistered fully automatic gun. I also think there should be required "gun insurance" that owners pay into like we require car insurance.

Bump-fire stocks would have been banned years ago if the ATF actually had a way of doing so. But it's a lot more complicated than just saying "bump-fire stocks are now illegal." A semi-automatic weapon is defined as being one shot, one pull of the trigger, and a bump-fire stock doesn't change that, therefore the ATF can't legally ban them. The only thing I could see them doing is saying that a grip must be fixed in position and cannot slide back and forth, which is basically required for a bump-fire stock to work.

I'm honestly really surprised most people haven't heard of bump-fire stocks. They've been around for years. If that is indeed what this asshole was using, you'll certainly hear a lot more about them.

Also, even if bumpfire stocks are banned, I would imagine they'll make it like lightning links or other full-auto conversion devices where you'll have an opportunity to register it with the ATF before manufacturing ends. They're quite expensive, and I don't think people who own them will just give them up without some sort of payout.

It's very easy to buy semi-automatic rifles and convert them to fully automatic. I'm mentioning that because people keep talking about illegal weapons - I'm sure he bought them legally, then modified them.

I caught a homeless guy with like 13 M-16 & AK-47 rifles, modified to fully automatic - along with 20,000 rounds of ammunition, an entire barrel of black powder, and grenade casings.

It's ridiculous what you can accumulate in the US. The only reason the guy was caught was because he made me nervous - he was a middle age white guy with no record.

He has one now, though ... Ended up in Federal prison.

Sounds like he wasn't a homeless guy but a gun dealer pretending to be homeless.

M16 or AR15? M16 is fully automatic by default, AR15s can be modded but it isn't "Easy" and some cannot be modded at all. I am not knowledgeable on AK-47s so I wont talk about those. Glad you caught him and got those guns off the street. How a homeless man had $7,000 - $13,000 worth of AR15s and ak-47s is insane.

This dude was there for 3 days. Easy to keep bringing in more luggage throughout the day. Also just keep the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, and housekeeping wont come in.
Just an FYI: A reporter on the scene on CNN just reported the hotel as saying their staff did see the room during his stay and saw nothing unusual.

I know in our state they are not banned, but you have to have some sort of disability to use them. I mean getting around that is laughably easy ("My finger hurts when pulling the trigger" is probably enough), but the restriction is there.

If you're going to play the self defense card, no gun should have the range his had.

the news site talks about dozens between rifles and guns..that's a lot of suitcases

It's probably like 3 or 4 large suitcases. In a place where people literally take in suitcases of cash.

It'd be ridiculously easy to take it in without being noticed. Who knows how long he was even booked in the room for, put up a do not disturb sign and load it in over the course of 2 or 3 days.

They already have. Anytime a tragedy like this happens gun sales skyrocket out of fear. Fear that you might need it to defend yourself and fear that the government might make the guns illegal.
I cringe at the thought of gun sellers grinning at their good fortune because of this event. Probably carrying on about how their prayers are with the victims and how this is such a terrible tragedy. All while their cash registers are ringing.

This has no "current" signs of being ISIS related.

Its kind of baffling what his motivations were if they were not political though.

If he was a Nazi why would he shoot up a Country concert? That is something a left wing extremist would do. According to his brother he was neither, nor was he a shooting, or gun enthusiast. Could just be a mental break, voices in his head kind of thing.

Have seen a bunch of people on the right claiming left wing extremism already. No evidence for it but agenda comes first.

I am a bit surprised by how much emphasis is put on the lack of metal detector in the hotel, it would be very possible to do the same shooting from an high rise appartment, would all high rise appartment need metal detector? would I need to get myself checked each time I come back home from the groceries or work?

I'm just getting caught up on all of this and can't believe. I went to bed when it first started happening and, I think, one person had been killed then. Had no idea it was going to turn out this bad. Rest in peace to the victims.

An AR-15 can be converted to full-auto with a simple stamped piece of sheet metal that you can make in your garage. An AK requires a bit more work, but the parts are available.

I have heard of them but know nobody who actually wants one and I am around avid shooters all the time in Texas. I go shooting for accuracy at range not wasting ammo like a moron. Hitting a 6 inch target at 200 yards standing is my game.

Ban them I say.

How expensive are the tools to do the stamping? I certainly couldn't do it and I am an enthusiast.

It's a short term bump in sales at the risk of tighter gun laws resulting in lower sales. I have to think the gun companies are not happy with these type of events, but stock holders looking to make a quick buck may be.

Just watched some footage (news site was autoplaying it) and damn at those sounds.
I only ever heard something like this on the news when they covered the Iraq war.
Pretty bizarre

Guaranteed he didn't have those legally here either.

You can technically own an auto weapon in a very specific set of circumstances but it is very rare.

He most likely modified semi auto ARs.

He was living in a storage unit. When they caught him, he literally had an abduction kit sitting next to him in the vehicle: hood, chains, rifle, taser. He worked part time cleaning up at a gun store. He also had a sniper bipod, books on overthrowing the government, a ton of other insane stuff.

But that's kind of my point - in America, anyone can get assault weapons. The guy from the ATF said if they place has caught fire, you'd see if from space he had so many weapons and explosives
