Oh wow, that's an awesome idea. Just like there are paper charged higher health care premiums if they're smokers or have a pre-existing condition, so should being a gun owner.

It would just increase illegal second hand legally bought guns. You would basically have the prohibition but for guns.

There really is only one good option and that is to ban the legal sales and ownership of all guns except hunting rifles for licensed hunters, as it is in most of the world.

Americans need to arm themselves and put out a hitlist on gun lobbyists and the NRA.
Shoot them all dead. And their families dead. Then, maybe they'll think free access to firearms is a bad idea. But probably not.

C'mon dude. Might want to keep those Punisher fantasies to yourself..

Pro-gunners on facebook are already reciting the "well Europe still has mass terror attacks without guns / why should we ban guns here and make a distinction between shootings and other mass attacks" argument.

Just reading it is exhausting. Like why choose to have an extra, ultra harmful means and avenue readily available for would-be perpetrators? Why should we choose to have non-gun mass attacks + mass shootings while Europe shows that we can less attacks?

That's a little extreme, to put it lightly. Not that you'll be here much longer to reply.

Bless this guy.

Apparently he illegally modified a semi=automatic weapon. So not only is the majority of gun violence stemming from handguns, but it also, in fact, would not have stopped this particular event.
There is no reason anyone needs a semi-auto rifle in the first place. Just make them illegal.

There's nothing that can be done about guns because the people who love them are set in their ways to believe in some delusional fantasy about their own combat prowess and that they're going to heroically defend off some imaginary assailant that they're paranoid enough to believe is coming after them.

This so much.

It takes several month to obtain a automatic weapons, but I can buy some jank shit to make a semi basically full auto? How is that legal?

Geezus Christ, these types of posts are permitted here?

Single-shot rifles are pretty much the only thing anyone should own in the United States.

Hand Guns, Shot guns and any kind of repeating action rifles need to be made illegal. Period. Full stop.

This gets away from all the clip capacity arguments, and the stupid "what is an assault rifle" stuff.

You get a gun that lets you shoot at one stupid animal you want to kill and takes several seconds to reload before you can fire again.

But, we have a bunch of gun nuts in this country who think they are 1) The good Rambo 2) Need to fight their government like PTSD Rambo 3) Need to shoot minorities who are coming for them 4) Feel a large stockpile of guns helps with their masculinity issues.

So, we'll get nothing and like it. We won't even close back-ground check loopholes.

This just isn't true.

Today's events are certainly tragic, but to say that Americans care more for killing over helping each other is just not accurate at all.

It's not accurate, but when you factor in how easy it is for one person to wreak havoc vs. how difficult it is for dozens to promote tolerance and healing the odds still don't stack in your favor.

It seems they consistently fail to hold them accountable when it counts, though.

Like many other issues voters are presented with alternatives they like far less than the status quo (for whatever justified/unjustified reasons). When radicals on both sides are demonizing moderate views there is no opportunity for polar opposites to think about relenting on certain issues.

And also now want silencers.

Stooge, how is ubertag not banned yet for encouraging people to murder?

We buy guns in the name of the second amendment, which is about protecting ourselves from a tyrannical government, but we never really point them at the government, do we? We mostly point them at each other.

All I'm saying is that if 5,000 people got shot tomorrow, everyone knows nothing would happen because the gun nuts will excuse literally anything to keep up their Big Dick Fantasy™ about being a hero and fending off other assailants who conveniently also have guns. I mean, in reality nobody is actually coming after you and there isn't any real reason you need a gun. The Onion is going to keep printing that story about "nobody saw this coming" from now until they stop existing.

...but what if I'm protecting children from a bear at school and one-shot doesn't bring it down?

/s obviously but these are literally the arguments gun-nuts use

This is a lazy argument. Since I refuse to believe this group of people in any way outnumbers the rest of the people. All you need is half of you (as represented in your government) to be for banning guns. The hard part is setting your representatives out of the influence of the NRA and that can only be done by demanding a stance against guns. Once they start losing elections for being associated with the NRA I would reckon there could certainly be a significant change to your gun policies.

You need to act, demand, vote and not forget to keep pushing in between tragedies until things change and I am convinced something can be done.

Both sides. Ok.
