Jimmy Kimmel on Mass Shooting in Las Vegas

Yeah it’s hard to understand how anyone could think anything else other than what kimmel was saying

Of course 1 man doesn’t need 10 rifles in his home
Of course 1 man doesn’t need 10 rifles in his hotel room
Of course mentally ill people should not carry weapons
Of course weapon background checks should be strict
Of course we don’t want people to shoot each other

Fucking of course

I'm sick and tired of headlines like this popping up. It's incredible how such an advanced society like our own continues to not even bat an eye at at events like this.

Obama did jack shit after Sandy Hook and Orlando and now Trump will do jack shit about this and the other events that will happen because of the U.S. not doing anything.

This isn't a place where I want to raise a family. This isn't a place I feel safe in. I want to live and bring in life happily, not afraid.

Nobody does anything and that pisses me off.

He signed nearly two dozen executive orders in the aftermath and put forward a dozen more proposals to Congress.

Blame Congress for shitting that up and tying his hands.

If a score of children killed at Sandy Hook couldn't get people to budge on gun control, then this won't either.

People like those of the NRA are just willing to accept a certain number of dead children and adults for the sake of their hobby.

Fuck. It’s true. :(

So he did buy the rifles! But some were saying those have been banned in the US since the 80s in the other thread!

I’m pretty sure that goes out the window when your getting shot at and the adrenaline is really pumping. I could be wrong though. In this case being armed would of been no use since most people didn’t even know where the shots where coming from and at that distance a handgun would be useless.

Yep, it's the same as if someone shoots up a poorly lit movie theater, or just starts firing into a crowd at an large gathering. People will have no idea where the shots are coming from. Even if every one of those people were carrying, it's meaningless if you don't know where to shoot back.

A Congressman got shot this year.

A Congressman. Not some a club full of LGBT folks, or grade-school kids, or festival goers, or any number of innocent victims. The mighty, mighty Congressman.

And they still didn't do anything, even out of herd mentality self-preservation.

The comments on that video are just baffling. Calling Kimmel out for using the tragedy "to push his liberal agenda".

Jesus fucking Christ it's common sense. What on earth is wrong with some people to be so blinded by hate/opposition that they can't see beyond blue and red.

Fucking stupid. Haven't seen the comments but if a liberal agenda is to stop mass shooting, yeah... Finish that thought process off you thickos.

I've always believed that if Sandy Hook would not change minds then nothing will.
Edit: Didn't read the last post.

It's amazing how many things are ruined and slowed down by stupidity and ignorance.

Obama tried; congress didn't help and talking heads in conservative media were too busy analyzing if his tears over the deaths of children in a mass shooting were real or not.

It's kind-of insane you have to think like a mathematician to figuring out how to deal with the stubborn and thoughtlessness.

Honestly, if Sandy Hook didn't do it, nothing short of a thousand-people massacre will.
It's really baffling to see.
A thousand isn't enough either. Nothing is.
It's like slavery all over again, unless you can make an economic argument as to why it should end, Americans will not care.

How to solve the NRA lobbying problem:

1) Limit the amount any one donor can make to a political campaign
2) Limit the total amount that can be spent on a campaign
3) Make it a legal requirement that all donors are made public, to allow the electorate to see who is influencing each candidate.

The desire to not be a victim to gun violence is now "liberal agenda."

As a non American I am constantly astounded by the situation in your country. Can someone who understands better than I please explain what the actual arguments against stopping the mentally ill and people on no-fly lists from buying guns actually are? I have a hard time understanding how you can oppose something like that, even if you are pro second amendment. Is it “slippery slope”?

Yes and money. Nra changed in the 70s and went very strong to defending any and all perceived threats to gun ownership.

Thanx! (from the Netherlands so just trying to learn the exact situation).
What category are they in the USA?

You're not allowed to own a fully-automatic firearm in 99.9999% of cases in the US (there are some exceptions for weapons manufactured before 1986, but you need to register the weapon with the federal government and go through a strenuous, time-consuming background check. Legally owned automatic weapons aren't really the problem here.)

It isn't that difficult to modify a semi-auto rifle into an auto, though. (Edit: To be clear, this is illegal, but doesn't really require much skill or expense)

The young are becoming the old.

A seemingly responsible and sane person legally buys guns over a period of years, and then suddenly snaps. That's the problem. Sanity is something you have for a moment in time. There's no guarantee you will always have it.

People don’t though and blame obama, even though every time there was a tragedy he complained that congress wouldn’t do anything about it and there was nothing else he could do. It’s another version of misinformation that haunts us tbh.

This is the first time I'm angry enough that I'm writing to my congressman and senator. I've had enough of watching the unthinkable. I know alone, my voice will make no difference, but I'm hoping that there are more like me that are fed up enough to put pen to paper and go to the post office.

That's all they can do: attack, mock and call names. Because trying to argue the other side intelligently is something you can't do because it sounds insane if you put it down on paper. It's saying "my guns are more important than human lives and trying to find a way to address this doesn't matter because I don't care and want guns."

No, the problem is being able to acquire that many guns without limitations merely because it's your freedom to do so. Anyone who thinks it's okay to acquire 40+ guns need to be checked out. There's no reason for one person to have that kind of arsenal.

Jimmy really went out of his way and delivered all the info we need to know, who to not forget and what issues that we need to address, and most importantly did not forget about PR.
Great job man.

Yea, it was the best clip I've seen on this tragedy (in my humble opinion).

Americans weren't always so gung-ho over guns. The old west wasn't the "Old West". The NRA wasn't "AK's for everyone". The dude with an arsenal at home wasn't "normal".

It took time and a concerted effort by people to turn public opinion until guns became sacrosanct. People who cared for nothing else but that issue, and who spent money and time, turning the NRA into what it is today, and twisting policy into what it is.

I think only the same thing in reverse will allow for any sort of common sense reforms, though I also fear the time for that is close coming to an end, 3D printing is improving, and slowly but surely the day anyone can print an AK is coming...

Its a shame that this event happened. FYI, the death toll in Chicago dwarfs this event... We had 74 murders alone in the month of July.

Where is the outrage? Where is the news coverage? Why isn't Chicago's mayor Rahm Emanuel doing anything about it?

This link is downright scary:

Ah, the old "but look at Chicago!" defense.

More often it's teenage boys who steal their parent's legally purchased gun. Not, "crimnawls baiyin frm da blak markit!"

There is a 1400+ page FBI file on Einstein because he was deemed a potentially dangerous communist by J. Edgar, so yeah, I would imagine Hoover would lose his shit with all the liberals in the US these days.

Lawmakers personally got shot at a baseball game and it did shit for gun legislation.

That's how fucked we are.

Same politicians deny climate change .
America's gun violence is just another Chinese hoax.

Has John Oliver ever taken the NRA to task on his show? I think it's about time they did. Im actually amazed he hasn't given them the main story treatment yet!

I'm all for more gun laws being passed. We most definitely need better gun control and sensible laws to at a bare minimum reduce the number of instances that take place. The problem I have here is that I can't come to any reasonable conclusion where sensible gun laws would have stopped this from happening. Other than an outright ban on guns, no other sensible law would have stopped this. That doesn't mean we don't try, nor that we shouldn't do it, but I hope people aren't misguided to think that had new laws been in place that this wouldn't have happened. He doesn't need 40 or even 10 to have shot from a window down into a crowd. 2 or even 1 would have been enough still.

So your argument is the 74 murders committed over 31 days by multiple suspects is somehow worse than the 58 and 527 injuries caused in 4 minutes (!!!!) by one man?

I doubt you're even in Chicago.

Not arguing anything. If you look at that second link I posted, there have been over 210 fatalities in Chicago since July 1st.

Just asking why this isn't news.

You are right about me not living in Chicago. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. DuPage county to be exact.

A junior with 14 total posts since May deflecting a thread about a mass shooting with a post about Chicago?

Why even bother?

Forget that, did you know that there are child sex rings going on right now? Why isn't anybody talking about that?! Do they not care? You're so focused on Chicago but you don't give a shit about child sex rings??

Let me go into unrelated threads and ask why they aren't taking about child sex rings! Then I can end their discussion about something I don't want them taking about and feel a sense of smug superiority knowing that I've accomplished nothing AND stopped them from discussing or being motivated about something else too!

Man, anyone talking about Chicago violence instead of child sex rings should sincerely get fucked.
