Destiny 2 |OT2| Leviathan Wakes (Spoiler Tag ALL Raid Discussion)

I still haven't beaten one. I did them regularly in D1, but the time mechanics are a huge turn-off for me. Got a little ways into one with a friend a few weeks ago, and noped out of it.

I've beat it twice, but compared to D1's nightfall, it just doesn't feel as fun to me. Having a timed element being a potential random modifier is fine, but racing the clock every week is kind of a drag.

I feel almost the opposite. I prefer the challenge in D2's nightfalls because it makes me want to engage with it. I like trying to get there and if we're down to a couple of minutes before the boss then we cut our losses and restart but knowing which areas we need to tighten up.

I feel more able to improve runs with these Nightfalls and actually beat it using that knowledge than when I'd die because I got caught in Vandal fire for 0.3s too long on Arc Burn.

That said I miss the kick back to orbit mechanic and wish they'd have a mode tailored around it, but less cheap than D1's burns.

Getting paired with randoms in pvp against 4 members from the same clan sucks. The game has been out for a month, anyone with a LL over 265 should know to stick together…

Is the Skull really that good on void lock? Ive been using the life steal gloves cause I keep messing up with using devour randomly on small fights.

First time it happened for me. Can a chest (gauntlet this time ) give only token ? No armor no weapon no engram just token ? Or was it glitched

Different exotics have different niches

The Skull is good if you know your teammates are going to take advantage of the orb generation and be liberal with their own super usage or in instance where you will have several heavies clumped together in one spot.

Nezarack's Sin is good if you're fighting generally tougher enemies and you don't think you'll be able permanently sustain Devour.

Winter's Guile is for situations with lots of add where even the toughest mob can still be two shotted by the x5 buff.

Voidwalkers are in a really good place in terms of options for what gear to use.

Only Calus' chest will always have loot.

I'd prefer to get constant change and more variation in the all modifiers, things like legacy modifiers that kick us to orbit, the new time-based modifiers, but not have any single one with slight variations stick around every week.

The timed aspect isn't horrible, but the thought of it always being a component of nightfall every single week annoys me at the moment, but it's also a new mechanic and I might still grow to like it more than I do.

Now if only one of those three would drop for me instead of the trash Angel wings chest. :|

Hello DestinyGAF :)

I want to buy this game but I don't know anything about Destiny. So I have a few questions:
- can it be played without a guild (or whatever guild are called in this game)? Is there any match making for big raids?
- How is the story? Should I try to read some summary of the first game to understand what's happening here?
- How does farming stuff work? Is it some daily/weekly stuff to do to earn some kind of money to buy high quality stuff? Like WoW or FF XIV.

Thanks !

Ok i though maybe it was because I joined a team straight to the gauntlet.

I was so lucky with my Titan got the full set in the first raid between loots and token (and 2 weapon). For my warlock 3 raid and twice the robe. That’s it

You don't need a clan, but having one will give you extra rewards and easier to find groups.

Story is good, I believe the intro to 2 gave a bit of back story, I wouldn't play the first now given the time you'd need to invest, I'm sure there are some sites out there with the lore etc

Farming is a case of each Tuesday it will reset and you can earn powerful engrams theses are generally high level (to what you currently have) these are done by completing various tasks like Crucible (PVP), Public Events and Nightfall strike missions etc. If you're part of a clan you also get extra ones once your clan completes as a group.

You can play the game without joining clans, but it's better to join them, even if you don't play too much. Clan members get some benefits from high level activities done by other clan members. I'd recommend that you join a GAF clan.
There is NO matchmaking for raids, but guided games should be going live soon, which is basically, some people in a clan guiding newbies through a raid.

Story is the best it has ever been, even though it falls apart a little, towards the end. The humour is basically a love it or hate it kinda cringey shit, but I mostly like it coz I've got a questionable sense of humour. You don't need to read the summary of the first game but if you did you'd understand the references better. It's not absolutely necessary, but knowing what happened at least till The Taken King expansion will make the new story a bit more enjoyable, imo.

Farming has pretty much been stripped down in this game. If you like the game and play it enough then you'll be getting most things you need at a pretty good clip. Once you reach the end-game, you basically do 4 high-level activities, once per week per character and get rewarded with powerful gear.

hahaha! so even rigging the system with infinite engrams FWC couldn't pull it off!

Dead Orbit stays winning, maybe next time we can upgrade our little refugee camp tho :P
Naw fam, remember the city began as a refugee camp underneath the protection of the traveller.

Got to stay humble.

OK I've had enough, it was a good joke hahaha I get it but now whoever is doing it needs to stop fucking around and stop being a jerk

One of you is responsible for it not being the 24th yet and you know what I don't even want you to come forward, just stop doing whatever it is you are doing so it can be the right date now ok?

Alright, thanks! I'll buy it then.
I'll read some stuff for the story since I don't really want to spend a lot of time in the first game (is it still running btw?)

Anyway, see ya around :)

Me and astropoff are looking for 1 person to do Trials on regular basis. We're not proffesionals or something, but we can hold our own and understand that Trials are Trials. You can't just straight up rush on your own and get the game. We have another friend who can play with us on regular basis.

We are looking for someone to try Trials on weekends. Requirements are not high - we'll learn together. Just don't run on your own, know basics of D2 PVP and have a positive KD.

PS4, send PM if interested.

I was kinda 'meh' on Hunter, but then an Exotic Engram gave me Knucklehead Radar and Failsafe gave me Orpheus Rig while I was trying to get my third Uriel's Gift.

Nightstalker grenades still suck though.

Hmmm, so modded controllers and full-auto Mida's are a thing, huh?

Ran into a dude last night in crucible that definitely had this set-up going.. Is there any way to prevent it, or any reason to report it?

There are a lot of controllers that will give you full auto. Hori FPS pro for one. It's not illegal modding or anything like that.

Then you have Scuf, and people using the XB1 elite, and the official keyboards for sale.

Also you can shoot MIDA just as fast without full auto it just hurts your fingers more, and gives you hand problems faster.

It's so damn OP it's not even fair...

Only tokens from my first ever Raid run right up to the big bad: dang!

Loving it so far, don't get the hate....having as much fun as I did with the D1 raids, right up there.

Right now I'm just hoping on each week for Ikora's challenges and the Flashpoint. :\

I strongly dislike time mechanics, but i'm really like D2's NFs for a couple of reasons:

1) I like the pre-game discussions with your team to strategize on loadouts and tactics
2) I enjoyed it more when I said that NFing now means 2-3 attempts, and so don't sweat the first time.
3) You don't actually have to rush that much, there is so much time available for every strike. Datto did a video 2 weeks ago where he killed every enemy, DID A PUBLIC EVENT and then continued the strike and had 10 minutes left for just the boss.
4) It's fun way to improve. Last week I ran it 3x. My first character finished with 0:32 on the clock. My second: 5:20 and my last run was 8:42 left on the clock.

So it's fun to strategize and work to improve, and the clock isn't that bad.

Thoughts on the raid hand cannon and sniper? I got them on the 2 runs I did last night, but it was too late to test them out. Hand cannon dropped at 300 - is it worth using a kinetic mod in it or is Better Devils still the best kinetic hand cannon? Trying to save them since I only have a few.

Also shout outs to DGAF xbox raid crew. First run was about an hour and no wipes on any of the encounters. Would have been sub 1hr if we didn't get lost in the underbelly part way through lol.

I've also found that the time mechanic itself isn't bad. It certainly gives the impression of pressure but the constant over the last three weeks (including this week) that I've found is that if you take it section by section, focus fire the Lt's and Cpt's, and actively seek the time extensions then you'll usually be fine.

It's when you try to rush through that mistakes and extra deaths happen. Calm efficiency and teamwork and everything works out fine.

Try it without people not knowing encounter or don't understand encounter fully

Weakest Link brings whole encounters down

Strongest teammates cam cover up to a point, but all 6 have to be in sync

Most people going through Raid now are hitting double digit clears
So if getting Sherpa'd, your not gonna run into issues and Raid looks good in your eyes

Same way some saying NF is easy ready for MM cause of last week, no mic or regular matchmaking should be in, yet I don't see praise the same way this week

Things over time become easier, people either learn from mistakes and overcome or they stay stuck

Like now that people have run through Trials, all of a sudden huge boom in selling flawless again
I wonder why...

Midnight Coup (the hand cannon) is a lot of fun and very strong in lower level content, but it does have a lower range and is a bad archetype for Crucible. It's range is its downfall, so if you're doing a Prestige NF and gotta stay at range, you might want something with better range. It's my favorite gun at the moment, fwiw.

*Gets exotic engram*

*Visits tower*

*Gets fighting lion a 2nd time*

*Uninstalls game*

That last part was a lie but I'd almost rather have nothing. At least I can use it as fuel as it went straight into play of the game.

Yes. I would gladly give you one of mine (had 6 drop for me so far. Got another one today at the end of a quickplay match). Works great in PvE also.

This weapon will not drop for me, it's like the Hawkmoon from Destiny 1 all over again.

ALSO

I get ANOTHER RAID HELMET! Every week! I must have had 6 by now.

Until you realize "Reset Tuesday" is really nothing more than "Duplicate Tuesday" after getting your 9th Fighting Lion with nothing to infuse.

Maybe the real end-game is seeing who can get the most Legendary Shards (but I hear there is a cap on those so maybe not).

I still don't understand the issue with no matchmaking for Nightfall from a players perspective. If you (not you specifically, but anyone in general who's against it) dont want to use random matchmaking then don't. It's been said a thousand times.

What if it were flipped around and it was only random match making? And then I argued you shouldn't be able to make your own team because in doing so you're just making it easier than it's supposed to be. Sounds stupid, because it is. You'd probably want the option to make your own damn fire team.

To me it feels like some people here just want to feel special at something and don't want that taken away.

I'm not against MM

I'm against players who don't want to put effort into an activity if they can't get a mic and try to afk in chunks due to whatever issue

I like Guided Games, but I want it to go further

Yeah the time wait is insane, but I like the Oath keeper or Oath breaker score

I just don't want a MM lottery, sometimes I can't find 2 players for NF, my sleep schedule fluctuates a lot recently
If I want MM, I at least expect MM to have something for an activity that's at least challenging

No mic can be an issue with certain burns, people abandoning over and over (Destiny Strikes with MM were a shit show at certain players getting matched up), what about AFK players?

I've already completed the raid a few times, but my normal group already finished it up so I decided to LFG within Discord. Joined Silvard and a team of DRGaf players. Really nice group of guys :)

Raid went pretty smooth, and we finished it up in about an hour and a half, with some good laughs along the way.

They had slightly different strategies for the encounters than what my normal group would do each week, and it was refreshing to see a different groups take on how to tackle these encounters.

Nice.

Like 10 posts here in an hour, including this one bitching about the lack of posts.

SAD!

Seriously I hope they have some D1 vanilla to TTK levels of improvement for D2 in store because I hate to see Destiny go out like this. They haven't even said a word about sales still I don't think. =(
