Liam Robertson on what happened with MvC:I

the power of memes, believe.

What's this about?

What was the original issue with Chun Li and what was changed?

reveal face on the right

Have Gaffers been enjoying the game? Could sort of sense from the reveal trailer what this was going to be and sort of stayed away from all discussion relating to it.

Common consensus is that the gameplay is good, but everything else is lacking.

yeah i'm not gonna buy this game, I'm just gonna wait for dbz. I feel bad for the team but capcom has to learn that they can't be doing this shit

Well, I'm not sure about the total product budget, but they did really obviously reuse the art assets from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and then start retexturing them/altering them slightly for the new game.

The DLC characters also basically looked done at launch, and I think they show up in the story mode?

I don't even think Chun-Li's original face is even that bad. Dante, Chris and Spencer were far worse and Spencer still looks like absolute nonsense with Chris and Dante getting slight improvement.

Not surprising about the DLC, this is why I don't pay full price for games. I assume that about every game with DLC available within the first two months.

You encounter Black Panther, Monster Hunter, & Sigma in the story, but you don't actually fight them.

The story mode even sets you up to fight against Panther/Hunter and then it just makes you fight waves of Ultron drones instead. I'm sure the story mode was planned out pretty early in production but it's clear at one point they were intended for the base roster. There's also no reason that Sigma would be so crucial to the story but absent from the launch roster.

Don't worry guys, DBZ is coming and it serves the same function.

DBZ is going to completely slaughter this game despite what some people have been saying about the gameplay not being as in-depth as marvel infinite.

Everytime i watch DBZ i get excited. With Marvel i feel like im in a coma. Especially when everyone seems to use reality stone.

Not at all. There's tons of options Capcom has, but it's up to them whether or not they push forward with anything.

One thing for certain - If they want to make this a service platform they should definitely offer a f2p option with rotating characters and offer us plenty of costume options.

That's not going to happen with THIS game...

Maybe ina year when they do ULTIMATE infinite...now with finished assets...

Lol exactly what we thought was the issue

Greedy ass capcom thinking name alone would sell it and we should just be thankful for whatever they put out.
Fuck Off Capcom

Basically what everyone expected:

- Shoestring budget. Like half of the budget for SFV's DLC plans.
- Re-use of old assets. That concerns mostly the Capcom side.
- Management didn't care until making fun of Chun Li became a meme. That's why that got changed.
- The first round if DLC characters has been finished months ago. They were just cut from the game.

Fuck Capcom.

So glad this flopped.

Yeah not sure if the budget is quite that believable. Maybe someone exaggerated. It's still obviously quite low.

And yes, the DLC characters do show up in the story mode.

I mean, most of this is common sense. Just consider that 13/15 characters on Capcom side are repeats from UMvC3. It's very obvious why this isn't called MvC4.

Resident Evil 7 fails to meet expectations
Dead Rising 4 failed spectacular
And MvCI is going to even surpass that.

Capcom is REALLY fucking up.

Only bullet they really dodged.
They can salvage the franchise's public perception when/if they bring back the 4 and a real budget.

This is just fanboy talk, no other way around it. The game is still in development, players have had no dedicated lab time to reliably find combos and setups, and it's a new IP.

Capcom love reusing assets, I think the old Darkstalkers Morrigan sprite has appeared in more Capcom fighting games unaltered than anything else they've made.

Even if he's right, DBfZ is going to massacre the competition.

Capcom really seem like they're in a vicious circle where they can't afford to budget what they need to to ensure success, so they cut corners with the end result they then sell below expectations, leaving them even less money to fund a maybe successful future project (which they then in turn have to cut corners on, and the cycle repeats)
it's not really a vicious cycle, good games (or good anything) requires investment. people respond to quality when they see it
