Liam Robertson on what happened with MvC:I

Damn, I always thought his videos on old games where good but that makes me second guess his info from now on.

Well we're past the crazy hype overload of the NX when it was a race to find the most info. A lot of the Unseen64 dealings are still quite real and I wouldn't outright doubt this video either, just that every "insider" for the Nintendo NX has been wrong to an extent.

Sound like homeboy just rounding up rumors.

Screwing up by putting the DLC on the day 1 disc (necessary for playing vs players who've purchased the DLC) does not mean that those characters were originally budgeted and developed with the expectation of being on the base roster!
The roster was leaked like a year before release, all the DLC characters were there and they were fully playable on disc through hacks but Capcom kept pretending they weren't done so they could sell the Vita version of the game.

He's also been right on the money plenty of times in the past and most recently had been using part of the final Mario x Rabbids cover art as his Twitter avatar for months without anyone realizing it while every other insider was spouting info about the game all the tine me without restraint.

The guy is legit, his sources simply turn out to be wrong/liars sometimes, which obviously is out of his control.

He also reported on MercurySteam pitching a Metroid project to Nintendo like 3 years ago, way before anyone even entertained the idea.

Sounds like a greatest hits of rumors that people are accepting as fact because of confirmation bias.

That said, the game definitely feels super low-budget outside of gameplay.

Capcom is so depressing anymore. I’m not sure what else to even say. I keep hoping they somehow turn the ship around, but I know it’s a long shot :(

Edit: maybe it would be best if they merged with another company if the issue is resources/budgets, which it honestly seems to be considering their low output, needing Sony to help fund SFV, and the low budget of MvC:I (if true).

Monster Hunter World stands head and shoulders above everything else CAPCOM has published/announced recently. It seems that is a property they do not want to spare any expense on, which I'm thankful for.

One question: didnt Sony funded Street Fighter V?

Because why would they need money to fund their DLC plans with Sony already covered it? I dont get it.

I don't understand new capcom. I loved old capcom

how could they not realize going low budget and cutting corners on a game, especially considering their past standards, would affect the sales and reception of the game?
Last time they did this was MvC2, and it worked out for them somehow.

Not sure what you're asking. Sony's not funding MvCI.

Holding off a completed project for a future release date is not "pretending its not done!"

All games/DLC/etc are completed well in advance of their release date! This is not Manga.

He can be hit or miss on rumors like anyone. He's had his Mario avatar on Twitter months before Mario x Rabbids leaked and it turned out he was using the Mario from that game under everyone's noses for months. Also no one seemed willing to talk about how the game plays like Xcom but him.

As for his investigation stuff, he has a far better track record with this stuff on going behind the scenes on game development and what went wrong.

Honestly its quite an impressive feat if they pulled it off with half the budget of SFV DLC.

But on the other hand , how much was SFVs DLC budget anyway? It might even be quite comparable to the base game. Since SFV is planned to have support for 5 years. Thats 5x6 = 30 characters. Nearly double the original game.

Also why are people surprised at Capcom for lowballing their budget. They were nearly bankrupt a few years back right? All their titles have seen some kind of budget cut.

RE7 had a lower sales estimate than RE6. While RE7 is a great game the budget is clearly lesser. SFV had Sony support ( Otherwise we were only getting the game much later). Wouldn't be surprised if Sony footed half the bill for the game.

MvC obviously got the shortest end of the stick. It sells much lesser than SF . Vanilla MvC3 is 2.2m while SF4 is 3.4m. and also you need to pay Disney a pick wad of cash for licensing.

It feels like everything Capcom for the last few years is due to sheer cheapness and/or Capcom being Damn Broke Ass. It feels surreal for me to go back and play SFIV, MVC3, Dragon's Dogma, and even SFxT and see how robust they are in comparison to current gen Capcom stuff.

SFV rushed out for sixty bucks with a small roster and structured like a F2P game.

RE7 being almost amazing but feeling as if the money ran out, it was cut short, lacking enemy variety and depth.

Whatever the hell Dead Rising 4 was supposed to be.

Marvel being treated like crap, which is a damn shame because it is clear the combat designers for MVC:I did in fact give a shit and did their best.

Monster Hunter World looks to be the only thing given a decent shake but after RE7 I'm still skeptical.

If MvC:I had the roster size of MvC2 I doubt people would be as upset. Reuse is fine, but you better have something to show for it like tons of characters. Also MvC2 wasn't an eye sore except for maybe Morrigan.

Wait so,

- Guy has a reputation as being an unreliable source
- He says he got the inside track about Monster Hunter months ahead of her announcement..... which we all knew about for months already because of the zip leak. Sounds like isn't aware of the zip leak?
- Budget for the core game being half that of SFV's DLC sounds sketchy as fuck even though it's clear as day the game was made on a shoestring budget but even still is way more feature-complete than SFV
- Character models were not reused, on either side, so he's straight up lying or has a bogus source. That's falsifiable, and you just have to look at the game to know. Little to no changes being made is also proven wrong given so many redone models on both sides that are dramatically different and have different proportions in so many cases.
- He compares how shaders make the characters look different when using Cap and Hawkeye who both have completely different models as an example? Those two characters got the most major dramatic changes of all, Cap is an original design and Hawkeye went from a classic look to an MCU look.

Genuinely, why isn't this locked when he spreads so much BS and even the footage he used contradicts what he's saying?

Or is dogpiling of this game okay even when it's complete bullshit? Especially when he wasn't even aware of things as widely-reported as the zip leak?

I'm not thankful for them doing that at the expense of everything else they're producing.

The point is that they were charging $60 for the characters announced, not those hidden on the disc. Any additional time / money spent on the the characters hidden on the disc was likely planned to be recouped by the DLC cost, not the $60 game.

Making the DLC available with the $60 purchase might have drastically reduced their projected profit margin for the game.

It was certainly shady though.

Basically what everyone expected:

- Shoestring budget. Like half of the budget for SFV's DLC plans.

Shoestring budget is self evident but this 'half of SFV's DLC' number can't be true. Like that's such an absurd thing to say I'm not sure how anyone could take it at face value.

- The first round if DLC characters has been finished months ago. They were just cut from the game.

While they could have been finished before the game's launch, they announced Sigma and Black Panther as DLC like halfway through development so the statement they were 'cut from the game' is false since they were intended as dlc to start.

At least in SFV's case, it has the excuse of re-doing everyone from scratch & the fact that most first iterations of SF games start out with small rosters (see SFIII: New Generation, SFII: World Warriors, & Arcade SFIV). MvCI doesn't really have that excuse since they reused assets from UMvC3.

Core gameplay is decent....too bad that doesn't matter when the roster is 90% SHIT

I was really hard on MVC3 when it came out that game is a fucking masterpiece compared to MVCI

The worst thing is Capcom will not give a fuck, their response to this will be abandoning the franchise forever and keep it up with RE,MH etc. (Oh wait i wish i could say etc rofl)

So basically fans get fucked twice .
