Gran Turismo Sport demo coming Oct. 9

i do have to ask about the jaggy shadows. they've been like that since gt5.

surely, it's not due to system limitations (anymore), right? why are they like that?

please explain.

Of course it's system limitations. Gotta sacrifice SOMETHING

It's the same kind of artifact but this is a lower degree than is gt5 or 6. I think if we saw them side by side the old ones would look noticeably jaggier.

Shadows are expensive/slow. I always have middling pc hardware and shadows are often one of the first things to get turned down because you get so much performance back for a little tweak.

"Attract mode" on the demo looks pretty damn fine. Looking forward to the servers coming up.

EDIT: The race replay IQ seems quite good. I have to assume the actual gameplay isn't going to look like this.

Ok, this is some bullshit.
I had to manage storage for the demo to start downloading: had 60GB free. It needed another 20 for some reason.
Demo downloaded, 23 GB free, but demo wouldn't start because it needed another 4GB free.
Wth is that Sony.

Started now.
Man this looks crazy good.
The amount of stuff you're asked to tweak when you first launch the demo shows how much PD cares.

Who is doing OT for the game?
We need PSN id swap section there, we can start it now to have nicely populated friends time lists in this demo.

If somebody had told a couple of days ago that I'd be downloading a 43GB screensaver for my PS4 which I'd leave running just so I could watch it...I probably wouldn't have believed them.

And yet, here I am, watching a 43Gb screensaver.

That aeroplane hanger just looks incredible, I've upgraded to a 4K/HDR TV and now I'm thinking that I may also need to upgrade my eyes to take full advantage of this.

Hah, yes. I'm about to start playing some Destiny 2 but instead I'm just watching attract mode on a 43G demo.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Such an awesome variety of different cars he has owned.

What's incredible is his enthusiasm for car's is unmatched in the gaming industry. Hence he's delivered a game that at least visually represents his unique love of them.

Anyone else getting micro stuttering during the real time pans around the cars ? Regular PS4 here

Regs ps4. I would not call that microstutters. I'm seeing the framerates pulled down wholesale to 15-20 for half second or second at a time in some of those scenes. They are really working the old ps4 that's for sure.

but they already sacrificed dynamic light and weather transitions. and several goats.

what more did the smooth shadow gods need

Environment shadows are still real-time and dynamic. I'm guessing the only reason they didn't bake the shadows is to keep the option to enable dynamics whenever they want.

Enjoy, everyone! I hope you'll have as much fun with the game as I've had (and am still having) working on it.

Looking forward to reading your reactions and seeing those amazing GIFs.

I have played several HDR games, and they all pale in comparison to GTS. Kaz, need to share his HDR tech, because it is the WOW!!! Factor in this game so far. 4K HDR in GTS is every bit as next gen as Kaz stated, he did not fail in that area, Holy Shit.

Dope. I just got a 65'' OLED a few weeks ago and have been playing a lot of HDR and Pro enabled games. When done right, it looks incredible. Can't wait to see how they handled it here.

Is Monday a holiday in Japan? It's the only rationale I can come up with for why Sony would release a limited-window demo at the start of the work week.

Also, limited-time demos are really kind of terrible for people without a ton of free time. I remember Nioh did the same thing and I couldn't even finish it within their window. As if they think people won't buy the game because they gave away a minuscule slice of the game for free? It wasn't this way on the PS3.

Haha!, legit funny post.

You are that guy that worked on whole interface right?
Let me tell You - absolutely amazing work, presentation is fantastic. Thanks!

It's not a perfect presentation. Some of the shadows during the "replay" footage have a bit of flickering, and the some of the lighting seems to be running at lower than 60fps framerate, such as the Le Mans garage door rolling up to reveal daylight. This is not a technical analysis. It still looks outstanding.

You get a big fat sausage finger thumbs up from chief!

Although this might be the answer...

...I think the lighting engine is the same as the last two Gran Turismo's but, for whatever reason, they decided to can real-time. It would explain why the shadows are lower quality because that would be a symptom of real-time lighting.

EDIT:
Yep, I'm going to be that guy who specialises in the Mazda GT3. Gorgeous car.

This is the most obvious, but I think reflections in-game aren't 60fps either.
Oh well.
Looks unlike anything else imho.

Next step for PD is matching the lighting from Scapes in-game, I have no doubts they will on ps5

The reflections can update very slow. I saw the garage rolling up that cakely mentioned and it was clearly slow. Single digits fps maybe. It was a really good reflection tho.

I'm so glad i don't notice that type of details, ignorance is bliss!

I'm not snobby about graphics... Like I don't even think a pro is worth it to me I really don't care. But deep down I'm a kind of graphics whore and when I see something bleeding edge my eyes will rake that shit to death. I'm confident that these kind of details have little bearing on my enjoyment of playing the game tho.

Lol

I got a car vs car crash in one of my replays and I captured it but it was so far from the camera and at suck an angle that you can't see anything.

Also hard to get a good look at is the deflection of the tire sidewalls. When a production car rolls slowly thru the moving photo location you can at least get a little look. The sidewalls seem to yield nicely.

It is, but the best part is it the demo doesn’t even begin until 4PM on Monday afternoon here, just before we all try to settle down for work the next day.

Anyone else get minor sound crackles when camera view changes in demo mode?

Edit: a bit disappointed there are a lot of visual options to tweak but hardly any for the sound.

Other than that absolutely fantastic presentation.
