Gran Turismo Sport demo coming Oct. 9

However, the biggest one was the online lobby system.

Quickly joined a game room, entered the track, and seamlessly starting doing time trials as other players raced around, pitted, entered in and out of the game room, etc. The speed and smoothest you can join public 'rooms' where you can just do laps, clean racing, etc -- that's probably sold me on the game.

The ability to just seamlessly join open 'tracks' with people, and not having to sit in a lobby and wait together for a race to start, is pretty huge. It's not a unique feature, and other genres (e.g. Ground Control 2 for RTS games) have done it many times before...

But GTS seems to do it really well and especially with the track, time trial, 'perfecting your track time,' etc spirit to the game I think it's going to result in a pretty awesome car appreciating and race celebrating community ... A sort of 'track' culture, distinct from 'racing' culture in in that it's less combative. Between online gameplay and interface production, the game has a lot of ways it could do to promote a positive community.

I think, when all is said and done about bells and whistles, review scores, graphics face-offs, etc, what really could shine about GTS is its online component and a sort of 'track' culture.

This is precisely what I was hoping for, and what I think a lot of people in the lead up have missed about what this game is trying to be. Gran Turismo Sport is designed to deliver on a convenient online experience focused on balanced and fair racing, and while some may consider that to be an easy feat, it isn't something that has been done before.

Played it for about 4-5 hours, and TBH at first and a few times I wasn't too sure about it... I mean, it's clearly a good game but my first impression of the career mode, or the lack of cars (is this a beta thing?) I wasn't too sure. Even the graphics, at times I felt it was a mixed bag... a few of the fairly green/plain day tracks some of the environment wasn't all that high quality. I'd say Driveclub has nicer grass, plants, etc. Of course, the two games try excel in different ways... number of cars, people watching the race, etc -- so I don't mean that as a negative per se. Just that my first hour or so, there were times where the cars were incredible looking but the environment felt a bit more mixed (1080p no HDR, mind you).

Anyhow, the point was that I felt a bit mixed... Quite positive, still. The production values and music, all the car knowledge and the celebration of cars in general. All awesome. But overall, were some things I felt a bit less positive about.

But there was a few moments basically sold me on the game: First one was that desert track with the Camaro. Think it's Stage 1 Challenge 6 or something. Wow at that environment. Second, when I finally got Gold on that. Felt like classic GT challenges, and personally whether it was licenses in GT or even something like Challenges in Driveclub, I like trying to 'perfect' little challenges by seconds or millseconds.

Great impressions, thanks for taking the time to share 😊

Does the game autosave? Im scared to turn it off as when i ckick save it tells me it cant save to server and to check my network connection. But i can play online just fine.
I too was scared but it looks like it does save (Campaign progression at least, don't have any photos or liveries yet)

1) this is still in the game, very much so, just play the game and stop complaining
Yeah I'm not sure quite the depth or anything but the game has pretty awesome stat tracking, and seems like a lot of different 'progression 'things to work on between credits, mileage points, and the ways you can use 'milestones' (e.g. race X miles; beat Y number of challenges) to get bonus points, unlock new gifts, etc. In some ways, seems like there are more stats or progress bars.

That said, I do hope they continue to add more 'events' like classic things such as Sunday Cup. Or even calender 'Events'... e.g. host real online Sunday Cups every Sunday.

I love the camera angles in this replay, so had to share it.

Beautiful!

Holy fucking shit, that's looks out of this world. I did a triple take to make sure that was in game and not real life. That's one of the best I've seen posted on this board.

I was going to play the demo anyway, but that has sold me on the game.

It does control the camera, somehow. Not in the way I expected, though.

Returning to this from earlier in the thread since I am finally home to fire up this beast.

With camera control mapped to right stick I have free 180 degree control of the camera from left to up to right and rear view when I push stick backwards. What exactly is wrong with this?

This is much better than the beta according to quite a few who have played it.
No, honestly, good for people who like it, but it can't have changed the way I would want it. They didn't just model accurate suspension and steering geometry from a few months ago to now for all the cars and there is still no FoV, or am I wrong? Is the clutch pedal still more or less a button that needs to be pressed 100% of the way to change gear? It's not where it needs to be for me.

The processing power was always a good argument why GT didn't have a super modern tire model and simulated as much as PC based sims, this time they had they had the power, that had this free pass for having less cars and tracks to make it the best sim on console that also plays great and polished with a controller, but they chose to go "sim-lite" with physics that aren't deeper than Forza's (GT is more fun over the limit, but the car simulation is just as shallow by modern standards).

Those are exactly my thoughts after about 2-3 hours into the game.

My concern with an online focused racing game is just that it’s going to be a miserable experience with people playing bumper cars. Enjoyed the single player stuff so far though in the time I had before work.

It does have some single player, the events just have a different lay-out.

I loved those Stage 6 events, not too easy and small mistakes can lose you the race.
That 30 lap Porsche event!

Can you... make the driving line change colour to indicate where I should be braking?

I've become pretty reliant on this feature after all these years.

To be honest mate I have no idea because I've been playing on a controller all day. It feels better than anything else I've tried with a controller this year if that means anything.

But then I don't expect Forza/GT to handle like the better sims do with a wheel. These are controller first games so you have to keep your expectations in check and just ask yourself "am I having fun?".

Those have always proven to be inaccurate. Honestly, it's better if you start learning the tracks and start using track side references as your braking points.

Can't believe they pulled it off. After the beta I was sure FM7 and PC2 would blow this away but somehow they improved the game massively.

Gameplay - Amazing, I actually can't get over how good the game feels to play. While PC2 is a great game it still has some issues on a gamepad so for that reason alone I prefer this.

Graphics - Amazing. While some textures are questionable (eg. the grass) the lighting system is beyond any other game out there. Game looks insane on the Pro. Might just be the most realistic looking game I've ever played.

AI - Good? I need to play a lot more but just from a few hours alone they're attacking and overtaking as well as defending inside lines. At worst it will be by far the best AI of the series. Though what is worrying me is the lack of options, is there really only 3 AI difficulties?

Content - Meh. As someone who doesn't really care much about playing online the offline offerings look poor. I know there's like 80 missions but it seems as if 60 or so are short and can be completed within a few minutes. Then you have to take into account the track list is poor and there's 'only' ~150 cars too.

Sound - Ok? I don't think the cars sound particularly great but they seem far less muted than previous games and tolerable. Will need to see how they compare to FM7 and PC2 sometime.

Honestly, my biggest concern is the lack of content. If there was a lot of it I would be in day one. Also not liking how there's no dynamic time and weather but that's something I can overlook.

I want to get this at launch but it just feels like too much money for what it is. While I feel they nailed the gameplay down it's just a shame it's not the full package.

Most definitely...

With how much stuff they track, I think event packs are definitely part of the rollout.

Also how come my video output is still locked? I can’t switch between 2K 4K or prioritize frame rate. Anyone got a fix?

it does have a singleplayer mode -___-

Yeah, it has a fletched out campaign that's just different than people are used to so some people dismiss it before even trying it and in addition there's the Arcade mode with the new custom race feature.
Custom Race
Tweak the conditions as you see fit, and race against AI drivers in your very own original race. Once you have selected a transmission type, the following settings can be adjusted:

・Race Type (Laps/Endurance)
・No. of Laps (If the Race Type is set to "Laps".)
・Time Limit (If the Race Type is set to "Endurance".)
・No. of Cars
・Starting Grid (Player's Starting Position)
・Start Type (Grid Start/Rolling Start)
・Rolling Start Interval (If "Rolling Start" has been selected)
・Boost (A feature which increases the speed of cars which are trailing.)
・Slipstream Strength
・Mechanical Damage
・Tyre Wear
・Fuel Depletion
・Grip Reduction on Wet Track/Track Edge (Low/Real)
・Opponent Category (The larger the gap between your car's category and your opponents' cars' category, the more stars will appear on the left side of the settings screen, indicating a more difficult race. More difficult races pay out more in prize money.)
・Opponent Speed (Increasing from Beginner to Intermediate to Expert will increase the number of stars that appear on the left side of the settings screen, indicating a more difficult race. More difficult races pay out more in prize money.)
・Shortcut Penalty
・Wall Collision Penalty
・Correct Vehicle Course After Wall Collision
・Replace Cars When they Leave the Track
・Flag Rules (If set to 'On', the flag indications given by the marshal on the side of the track will be enforced, and drivers will incur penalties for disregarding them.)

Couldn't be happier with the sport mode, did 2 arcade races and almost fell asleep. It's not for me anymore to race against some dull AI, basically stopped playing offline racers since GT5.
I would enjoy some B-spec custom races though, always loved those.

Just received my brand new 4K HDR tv and man, words can't describe how pretty it looks. This should be the showcase title for Pro along with Horizon and Lost Legacy.

People are (and were) responding to the official written descriptions of the content in the game. This is the entire overview of the career mode. You're doing yourself and others a disservice if you're insisting there's more to it than this.

Campaign Mode
Campaign Mode is where you come to polish up your driving technique, and to learn about racing rules and manners. Campaign Mode contains the three features listed below.

Driving School

Mission Challenge
Put your driving techniques to use as you seek to clear various challenges. For more details, please refer to the "Campaign Mode" -> "Mission Challenges" section of this manual.

Circuit Experience
Learn the best way to race around various tracks. For more details, please refer to the "Campaign Mode" -> "Circuit Experience" section of this manual.

Oh yes....it's got one. Just nothing along the lines of usual Gran Turismo games. Shame too, I would like to get this game but I am highly skeptical of it right now since I won't step foot into online racing.

I already had fun for 4 hours or so and didn't even tried online play. If you can get a week of fun and 20-30 hours out of it, even if you don't like online gaming that much, where's the problem? That alone would be worth full price.
Plus who knows what they patch into this in the future.

There are a few framerate drops here and there when playing with 20 cars on track in 4k, but the only thing that I dislike about GTS is the somewhat busy UI. you cant pick what parts of it to turn on or off and the camera is so static.. especially the chase cam, you cant change the angle at all other than near or far in options, and it just follows the car so well that it feels a little awkward after playing forza and its chase cam has a more natural feel to it.

other than that I like the vibe of the game and im excited for the full thing to come out.

I'm playing the game right now and there is more to it than those descriptions would suggest.

Hopefully you can understand my confusion. If you're right, then who the heck was responsible for writing this copy? We're now seeing it in the final, official manual.

I tried it with a controller too and I agree, you have just the right amount of control. Felt "done right" for that.
But The muffled cockpit sound, no FOV and no cool old cars(like Group C, Group 5, Group A) ... The Group B Quattro I'd rather drive in a rally game, so the cars are not for me.

If you don't play with a wheel, like GT3 cars and are ok with improved but still subpar sound, this game is pretty good. I very much agree with that.
