That's an awful lot of words to try and explain your way out of admitting that the images in this post are true.

Because your post reads like "here, let me show you how awful this game looks in gameplay, you better prepare for the worst before I post them".
Dragon Trail is certainly not a looker environment wise, but the implication of those images is that the real world tracks which all have much better environmental details look exactly like in replays with some minor deviations. The on track details on all tracks are impeccable.

The added depth of field and motion blur are what make those replays look so good. See helmet cam view in Project cars.
I don't really get the argument, yeah they look good, but is it far better than what Forza looks like? No, especially considering the jaggies.
Everything is still down to the lighting being much better in GTS than in Forza 7, detail imperfections during gameplay can be pointed out in both games. That track is also easily the worst looking track-side track in the demo ¯\_(ツ

I'm not sure we're looking at the same stuff. The post linked only shows the "REPLAY" images for me. They blink very quickly at times, but are they supposed to compare gameplay to replay?

I love the overall look of that shot! I can see myself spending more time than normal in 'scapes'..
For me at least, it's very true. I was not impressed with the pre-launch screenshots of FM7, I really thought it would be a step back from FM6 in some ways, and that has absolutely been parroted in this thread, so imagine my surprise when I fired it up for the first time and found it absolutely looked a step on from FM6..
The converse is true of my experience with GT, I have always found (since GT5 at least) this disparity between actual gameplay on my own setup to the mages shown in threads like these.
I put it down to the 'criteria' people judge image quality on. For this thread it's about static images and looking at certain aspects only, case in point the MX-5 comparison, people really being quite derogatory to FM7's more simplified model, yet at first glance, my impression was that the GT screen shot had flatter lighting and a less pleasing contrast of the interior lighting, and having taken it around the track for a spin, my eye is not focussed on the oversized plastic texture details or simplified hood catch mechanism, but the way the lighting/reflections in the windscreen etc make it a good experience.
For the record, I think the GT:S gameplay (aside from rally) looks very good indeed, and no massive complaints, but it most certainly looks a world apart from the replays, and it seems to trade blows with what I'm seeing in FM7 (since I have both now).
The spectator stands compared to the direct view of fuzzy textured hills? Yes.
They are gifs cycling evenly between both images for me.

The lighting looks cartoony in GTS, like how Forza 5 & 6 looked. Much prefer the Forza 7.
Though the actual lights, brake and headlights in Forza 7 are way to under saturated. Needs to be adjusted, big time.

Does GTS use PBR? Whatever it is, it makes the trees look kind of stylized or cel-shaded.
By that comparison video -- which is compressed of course -- GTS looks more gamey, and Forza looks closer to real life albeit with a dull digital filter. This is somewhat contrary to how they look in stills to me.

Dull, flat lighting in sunny conditions in Forza 7 vs. realistic lighting in GTS.
GTS's lighting is not oversaturated, if that's what you're suggesting.

I mean, I know that beauty is subjective - but GT Sport clearly looks better than F7 in that video. Lighting, cars, track - you name it.
Also surprised how much I preferred the GTS sounds. I mean, they're not perfect and could use some work (e.g. WRX), but that example was quite good. Though, I appreciate Forza's much louder and aggressive sound too.

This isn't really a bad looking track at all though, especially when you change up the time settings. It isn't a step below the other tracks I've played. There are some time of day settings, such as that overcast, where the vegetation shaders don't have much to work with; but they still react beautifully to light, subsurface scatter, and self shadows across the other various time of day. I find the hazy daylight and noon looks the best.

Sometimes its sparse and the lake area could use some love but some of the track side detail look pretty good like benzy posted
That's unfair, dragon's tail is the weakest track of GTS.
The spectator stands have noticable lod issues - I much prefer the hills in dragon's tail.

There's quite a huge difference there. FM looks decidely more realistic, lighting-wise in that video. Of course, there are many factors at play, but in that video, FM runs circles around GTS.

What are those white things that appear to be covering 80% on the sky in that video? Sometimes the sunlight can penetrate them, we call that "haze" it increases the brightness of the ground, but not to a brilliant level, like below, when the sun is actually out

I think you should have gone to specsavers if you think the lighting in GTS looks cartoony. That was a criticism that was aimed at Forza for years.

I've heard it all now... How anyone can say from that video that sunny weather lighting is better in Forza than GTS, let alone saying it runs circles around it is beyond me. Did you switch the two games around in your mind while looking at that video?

It's hazy, not sunny. Did you even watch the video? The lighting in that video isn't flattering for GTS. Whether that is due to the track, the TOD, the video or if it just looks like that, I'm not sure. It's not impressive, that's for sure.
I've seen examples of much better lighting from GTS. But this video? Color me unimpressed.
edit: I've never said that "sunny weather lighting is better in Forza than GTS", so skip the strawmen arguments please.

There isn't a generational leap in lighting that was the difference between F4 and GT5. Like it or lump it, it is possible to see how someone might prefer the look of Forza. The highs of GT again are higher but in general there's nothing really special this time around and therefore no good reason to attack it or gloat. But of a letdown really.

It's not hazy throughout the video on the Forza side (there are very clear shadows at times), but it's dull throughout.

It's not a bright sunny day, which is also clearly shown in the lighting throughout the video. Compared to the oversatured colors and brightness lvl 100 on the right, it's obvious what looks more realistic.
But again, it's probably a bad video, since GTS usually looks a lot better than that.
Exactly. Yes, GT can look very good, I often said that but saying it's a generation ahead is bullshit. Praising it for its IQ is exaggerating when there are noticable jaggies, af being low and noticable lod issues which of course are understandable because it's a 60 fps game, there have to be shortcuts.

I just think the arguments between both is very meh at this point, they're around the same ballpark IMO.
Only thing is, T10 achieved this in far less Dev time with 40% less GPU power.
I think it is especially worth noting that, unlike last gen, GTS doesn't feature dynamic tod (yet) and no weather at all (besides dry and yet), although both "features" were implemented last gen and on amateur PS4 there are already drops, even without both features.
Of course uture patches can address every point but this is the current situation. Whether this is due to not having enough time (which would be surprising for a game cooking for 4 years) or not enough hardware resources (which would make sense considering the CPUs of current consoles) we will see in the future.
