I was looking at the devices that Chrono Trigger is available and there's lots of ports. But i noticed that starting next year with the Wii eshop closing, the only digital places available Will be: PS3, vita, Android, IOS.

No New generation console. And its not even in the minisnes. Last gen to receive Chrono was: PS3, vita, Nintendo DS, Wii.

So has Square forgotten Chrono, Will they bring Chrono to the switch or PS4? Or they Will let the way It is? Why its not even on the minisnes?

I have a Vita so thats not a problem to me. But If someone only has the New consoles, the only way he can play Chrono is through android and IOS or to buy a older console.

Well what you guys think?

Are you expecting for every games to be playable on every generations or something? It's still playable on plenty of devices I really don't see the issue there.

I would think an explanation for why they didn't release it on the mini snes is that they wanna release it again on a new gen console in the near future?

I was listening to a podcast recently, I forget which, that implied there were rights issues to the game. Something to do with the art maybe? I forget.
They didn't go into much detail.

I'm going to go with BS on this...I want to see the receipts (not yours for the podcast, but the podcasts' receipts on where they came up with that information)

I hope it comes to Steam above all else. Once on PC, we're good.

I wouldn't mind seeing it on PS4, though not the inferior PS1 version. Is the Vita/PS3 version fixed?

I hear the mobile versions (while just ports of the great 3DS version) suffer in some area due to lack of butt (Death Mountain and rat chase).

I surely hope the market doesn't get flooded with rereleases of older games every new generation. It happens a little too much already.

I'm sure they intend on putting it on PC like they did with most of the FFs that they did mobile ports for, they probably just wanted to take the time to re-draw every sprite and background tile in the game to look like absolute fucking garbage like they did with FFV/VI.

It seemed strange to me too. I'm not really a fan of the game, but I've never given it a fair chance.

It must have been either Player One or Giant Bomb. That's all I listen to. Anyone else remember this bit? I think it may have been Jeff talking about it, sort of in a veiled way in my estimation.

Did I just create this memory out of the ether and convince myself it's true? I'm not trying to start shit, but I don't really care about CT all that much. I just thought it was interesting on a historical level.

That would really suck if that was the case.

I’d love to get this game on Steam one day.

Unless it comes with the improvements from the DS version, I don't want it.

Like what?

Two horrible optional dungeons? I do like the new translation, but it's not a huge dealbreaker.

I do like the DS version, mind you. But the SNES original is sufficient.

ROMs are a thing, and provided you own it on an older platform, I am 100% of the belief you are entitled to boot up Higen and enjoy the game at your leisure.

The people who only own current generation hardware are not the target audience for this game. If Virtual Console is to exist, holding it back from the Mini does make financial sense.

When these platforms have the ability to do so without any real extra work needed, yes. (could be available on Wii U VC in both the SNES and DS versions, N3DS VC, PSN for all sys--- wait, Sony is being dumb about PSOne on PS4, ---most system. But Square Enix just chooses to be Square Enix because they love to do incredibly dumb things.

They didn't go into much detail.

What would these rights issues be then? SE obviously don't mind since their games ended up on SNES mini anyway. Must be one of the composers holding it back?

This is pretty nonsensical, how did it rerelease on all these consoles then?

Listen, I'm certainly not trying to force a point here. I hope I'm being clear that this sounds as nonsensical to me as you all, but I have like a real, concrete memory of this being discussed. So much so I thought this thread was going to be expounding on that and wanted to learn more.

If it is a real memory and not some kooky dream I had, maybe like many lawsuits it wasn't a problem until somebody made it one.

The most recent release was for Android in 2012, so maybe there was some contract that expired after 20 years?

Then again, if that was the case then usually those sorts of contracts would demand that the game be pulled from the market after expiration.

I heard this on a podcast recently too. I only listen to Easy Allies, the GI Show, Nintendo Voice Chat and the Dark Pixel Podcast, so it would have been on one of those.

Release it on steam and the other consoles.

I don't have a 3DS and I don't want to play on Vita, because I hear not so great things of the PS1 version.

Also, this game is not available in EU digitally.

More > less

Sure buddy. If it gets re-released on modern platforms, I'll be sure to enjoy my olde English Frog script and ignore the loss of two shitty dungeons that purely exist to tie the game into Chrono Cross after the fact.

Ah see, I listen to NVC and GI on YouTube, so maybe there!

I'm relieved I'm not the only one.

Yeah i think steam would solve this. But the only snes ports i remember its the horrible ff6 and ff5 pc ports. D=

It’s SE. They’ll rerelease it again in the future whenever they feel like it. Don’t worry about it.

I highly doubt any rights issues prevent its re-release because, well, what issues would there be? Squenix owns the game - it's not like there was another party involved in its production. It's been on Nintendo platforms, Sony platforms, iOS and Android. I think it just hasn't been re-released for whatever reason Squenix hasn't re-released any of its original 16-bit RPGs on modern platforms. I don't know what reason that is, but you don't see FFIV-VI SNES anywhere, and Squenix is choosing to remake Secret of Mana rather than releasing the original release.

I think the decision is as easy as Nintendo/SE choosing Final Fantasy VI over Chrono Trigger.

Aren't they still selling physical copies of the DS port in the US SQEX Store? Or at least were fairly recently.

I'm sure it'll resurface at some point, somehow. If nothing else, maybe they'll do a cheap 3d remake like the recent Seiken Densetsu/Mana ones.

I think Chrono Trigger still prints on DS, or have they printed too many copies back then?

I still see brand new copies in some stores.
