The Evil Within 2 |OT| "Something not quite right"

Bullet Cascade and the SloMo skills both really saved my ass in the final few chapters on Nightmare. That shit got pretty intense.

I don't like comparing the game to The Evil Within since it's so different. Both are great but for very different reasons.

My only real disappointment is that I felt like the creature designs were a pretty dramatic step back and there simply wasn't enough of them. I feel like The Evil Within had heaps of different enemies that they weren't afraid to use once or twice and then abandon completely for other ones. This I felt like the same ones were constantly being recycled and reused.

And I agree that the game didn't completely grab me until I finished Chapter 8 ALTHOUGH I did a absolutely adore Chapter 3 before that and put a crazy amount of time into exploring and killing everything on that map.

Also somewhat disappointed that the story didn't really touch upon
Ruvik and Lesley and that whole saga
either.

I loved the first one despite how inconsistent and rough it was in places but I'm enjoying this immensely and think it feels like a huge leap forward. While It's lacking the dingy scrappiness of the first one this one feels way more of a cohesive whole that flows so much better.

I'm only only chapter 5 so I've got plenty to do.

In an optional section in chapter 6
Hey guys you shouldn't show an updated version of Seb's original model, he's infinitely better designed back then

Actual Spoiler:
After you beat the game, you unlock several costumes, including Sebastian's original look.

I honestly had no idea this was going to be an open world game. I am honestly burned out with those and I’m not sure I want to begin another one with a side quest here and a side quest there. It’s just not something I want to invest in honestly. I bought this but I have not opened it yet. Might just return it that’s what this game is about.

man.... kinda pissed, i found every key up until now.... and just realised that i missed a statue in chapter 10 by watching a friend... and obviously it's the one you can't go back to...

fucking bad luck, lol

I really need to find the shotgun, any fight with more than one enemy just results in death. The pistol has so little stopping power once they decide to sprint at you

SteamSpy has this game at 34k, not really sure how it bolds to console sales but hoping it sells well in the long run.

Hopefully it does well to warrant a third game that mixes everything good from the first and second.

So...

Ch 3 'Standard' Enemy (Spoiler?) Question Marking just in case.

Those ladies that look like The Witch from Left 4 Dead...they don't die to a stealth kill. Am I able to kill them? I've been just avoiding them/distracting them since they kill me in two hits on Nightmare.

This isn't an open world game but more like a few big areas with objectives and the rest of the game is l8near

SteamSpy is not reliable until around 3 days after release, as it says on the site itself. Numbers can go drastically up or down after that point as the site takes a few days to calculate all of the data.

This said, I am worried about this game underperforming and definitely could see it happening.

I think good word-of-mouth should save this, as it did with the first game. Especially since reviewers are liking it better too.

So thoughts on that corner stealth kill move?

Damn. I feel for ya. Only managed to find a few myself so far.

Yes. For me on Survival it's
two stealth attacks.

Oh, I didn't know about 3 days rule, my bad. Regardless, the original sold 5 million copies and 700k of those are from Steam (reminder the game was less $10 multiple times) so it's safe to assume most of the sales are going to be made from consoles. If all goes to shit then keep in mind that Dishonored isn't dead even though the second game bombed.

I'm pretty far into chapter six and have been really enjoying the past few hours. The game has become much, much easier than I expected though -- particularly with all the perks the shooting range gives (and it's so easy on PC!).

So thoughts on that corner stealth kill move?

It's really good.

I tapped out at the very hard course. The way sensitivity is implemented for gamepad is borked. When you move the stick in a circle, the reticle moves in a square instead. Not that big of an issue for normal gameplay since combat is mostly horizontal, but it makes the shooting range quite difficult.

I started the game, and was immediately taken aback by how completely out of wack the default field of view is. It feels like the camera is situated a hundred feet behind sebastion and zoomed in. It makes everything feel slow and floaty.

Anyone else notice this? Fortunately turning the FOV slider up helped with this, but it still doesn't really feel perfect.

Is there no way to adjust the the fov on consoles? I'm enjoying the game so far, but the movement, animations, and aiming feel a bit...stiff, compared to the previous game? Unless I'm imagining it...

On PC fov was way too close by default, glad I could change it. Much better now.

Also I reduced much microstutter or whatevs it's called. Fiddled around with graphics settings and it's much better.

Saw the gameplay videos from the youtube and the game looked real nice. Now I'm interested in picking the game up but have two quick questions before I make my purchase.

1.I'm easily scared with horror games. I saw my friend play through Outlast, and couldn't stand it because it was too scary. I'm fine with grotesque stuff but can't stand jump scares at all. Would I be able to play this game?

2.If the game is suitable for me, do I have to play the first one beforehand?

2 stealth kills on nightmare if you can run away.

I recommend playing the first game first including the DLC--it really ties into the sequel story wise and its a great game. The series does have some jump scares but it's more about atmosphere and environment.

Uh, so the tutorial for the running stealth kill is wrong.

Like. Actually completely wrong. It tells you to use the wrong button and I haven't changed anything controls wise.

Still in chapter 3 after like 6 hours or so.

When you see
the camera traps with the tripwire, do you have to hit them? I had one earlier that was super obvious but I didn't see a way to disarm it.

I thought it was accurate?

1. Position camera so that an in-range enemy is in the center of the screen. If successful, a red cover arrow will appear on them.
2. Press the cover button to start dashing up to them.
3. Press the action button to perform a stealth kill when Seb is within range. The stealth kill prompt will appear on the enemy's body when Seb is close enough.

The action button wouldn't work, it only lets me use the stealth-kill button

I only saw one, and I got around it by
tripping it and hiding against the wall, then using Ambush (stealth kill when in cover).

Put in 4-5 hours and feel I’ve just scratched the surface of this game (still in chapter 3). I went into this game without looking into any previews besides the E3 trailer so I’m pretty surprised at all the changes they made to the level design so far. But it’s working really well so far! The side quests and mini moments really mix it up. I also find myself being able to play in much longer stretches than the first game

Chapter 6 side quest spoilers
holy shit saving Sykes from the top of that truck on Nightmare was unbelievably difficult. Activated the quest with only a med kit, two handgun bullets, and one explosive bolt. Took me probably ten tries and I can't believe I actually got it done.

6 hours in on chapter 3 and i know already this is my goty... amazing...

That flash back from the first game was so awesome they even added those black bars for that scene! Haha!

I'm interested in the setting and atmosphere, but I'm a big wuss when it comes to these kinds of games. Has anyone tried casual difficulty? Is it actually easy?

Beat it on nightmare mode in 18 hours with most side stuff and exploration done. Enjoyed it a lot but still putting the first game over it due to gameplay mechanism and stage layouts but if you're looking for a story then this has one and it's laid out to you straight rather than interpreting stuff.

Almost 10 hours in and only in Chapter 4. Enjoying it quite a bit so far. Nightmare seems pretty manageable to me with more chances for gel and crafting upgrades than the first game IMO.

Glad to see some fellow Downpour fans here :P

Liking it a lot but I read some reviews where the reviewer said this game improves on TEW1's pacing...well no it doesn't. At least as of not yet.

Also some of the texture work is awful it really doesn't look as good as the first game. The character models look better but that's about it

I'm only on character 7, but I have to disagree overall. I loved the first game, but it really was all over the place pacing wise, even from the beginning. This game is much more deliberate and consistently paced so far I feel.
