Gran Turismo SPORT | OT | Putting it all on the line

As crazy as it sounds, I would recommend GT Sport more to people wanting a single player experience than an online competitive one. Single player mode has way more to do. Sport mode is three races a day. That's it. Love N200 cars? Better hope it the slot machine lands on a day you have time to game. Hate oval racing? Tough shit, it will be 1/3 of the entire sport mode some days. Spent hours perfecting your setup and lap times on a track with a specific car? You have one day to bank those efforts for rank. A daily cycle made sense for a demo or beta to test as much as possible in a short time span, but for a proper online sport mode, it is such a missed opportunity. How is it possible that GT Prologue still has the best online mode to date in a GT game?

Can the demo be patched to the full version or do we have to redownload everything?
Redownload
And then a patch which is mandatory

And you import your beta progress but only credits, cars, pictures, SR, and mileage points, but not driver level or licenses done or challenges done.

Depends, you probably won't get full value from it, although if you have VR it seems like that will be another grab and is really well done.

Depends, did you actually like the career mode in those or did you just like doing races? You can set up your own custom races now in arcade mode, number of laps, AI difficulty, car class restrictions or multi class, number of opponents etc. there's still a campaign mode that's basically like the license tests and they have some longer race events in it too. Kaz also said there's post launch support to add in more single player race events.

I think it's ideal for SP
You have a lot of progression to fill out
22 different tracks to achieve challenges on, sector and lap.
A huge license section to get golds on
Another challenge section after licenses
Arcade racing in car classes with 3 difficulty slots per race to achieve wins on.
Spit screen 2 player
VR

Probably not. If you don't want to complete the licenses then go online it's not for you.

The caRPG aspect is all but gone. Instead the single player is pretty much medal chasing through a slew of tests and challenges. Still enjoyable and the driving is far better than it has ever felt, but you won't have the same progression as older GT games.

Thanks for the replies, I'm probably more conflicted now :(

Maybe it's placebo, but I feel like some of the car sounds have been improved since the demo. The Alfa 4C has a bit more mid-range growl. And I don't know if it's because I turned on the "enhanced sound effects", but the Ferrari 458 has more bite when shifting in the lower gears.

There's still the regular lobby mode for free online racing. I just think PD want to be careful with the Sport mode in the first period here after launch.

I just realized that Lotus isn't participating in the FIA manufacturer series, and oh yeah, there's no Lotus in the game at all. Kind of sad. :/ Guess I'll have to hope for some DLC.

My daily reward car (I think from the daily miles thing or something) was that Chapparal 2X VGT thing. It looks straight out of Tron. Like what even.

Got done with the first three rows of the driving school challenges for tonight with golds. I'm definitely way out of practice on anything tarmac related, even some of the beginner challenges were hard for me to gold. That hairpin 2 one with the Lancer definitely took me a grip of retries. Not a good sign for the intermediate tier, haha.

Is the transfer automatic once you start the full game or should I do something like logging somewhere etc.. ?

Lobby races don't affect your rank though. If you want to do the Sport part of Gran Turismo Sport, your choices are incredibly limited right now. GAF Racing League will be my salvation until they sort this shit out.

They've changed hands recently so all the licenses will presumably have to be renegotiated.

For reference. GT Prologue launched with 35 different online fixed class races. GT Sport, the game that is supposed to be all about online racing, launched with 3.

Edit: before you ask, yes you could match make in every one of those without issue from day one up to when it winded down. I played that game daily and only did online races after the first week (it gave you the most credits, how else were you supposed to buy the ferrari f1 car!)

How are you going to ensure there are enough concurrent players with similar skill and SR ratings for close racing if you split the player base in 12?

Yea, DriveClub did the whole daily race thing in their online mode as well and there were far more than just 3. 3 just seems odd in general. I would expect there would be one for each class of cars, and then the tracks+time of day+weather should rotate every few hours.

But w/e.

Edit: I see how it would help with finding full games filled with people with the same DR/SR. So I'm fine with it. As long as the 3 rotate multiple times per day, I think that will be fine until the userbase gets larger. Here's hoping for Siege type legs.

They managed to do it with Prologue. You are also not segmented into DR and SR exclusively in GTS. Most races have a mix across several grades as well as countries. If you can't match make 16 players across two continents, once per hour with the most successful ever racing franchise in console history, then your shit is fucked.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Taiwan announced a Gran Turismo Sport PS4 bundle that still manages to stand out as particularly wild, because it comes with an actual, drivable car. That's right--the bundle comes with a limited-edition 2018 Mazda MX-5, complete with Gran Turismo and PlayStation logos. And if the car wasn't enough already, the bundle also features a PS4 Pro, a PSVR headset and Move controllers, a Thrustmaster T-GT steering wheel, an Apiga AP1 racing chair, a Bravia 4K HDR TV, 12 months of PS Plus, and, of course, the game.$46,600.

Prologue didn't have custom lobbies further splitting the player base either.

I have a very different recollection of Prologue too. Most of the rooms still struggled to matchmake anything close to full lobbies and the online racing was a cluster fuck compared to GTS.

But Circuit Experience. Man. It is the quickest way I've ever seen to go from zero to hero. Lots of games let you time trial a track sector by sector, or follow their racing line, or race ghosts of your friends or leaderboard players - but the combination of having a specific car, and specific targets to beat, sector by sector culminating in a full lap, with text and video instructions for every part, is a game-changer.

Yeah, I can't wait to play this. The learning experience and like you said, going from zero to hero is a superb feeling.

Watch sportmanship video ..agree with all points....jump in first race...6 cars missile in the first corner and i get pit manoeuvred on the straight...gonna be fun

Is it at the same intervals as well?

I quite liked that they were more structured as you can focus on certain races, practice and test it against real unpredictable opponents. However I did feel like the timings between races weren't right but I did find myself waiting for an email looking at the time and quickly firing up GT:S to play the race that was soon approaching, finishing the race turning the system off and getting back on with what needed doing.

PS+ is just for online racing isn't it?

Scapes/Livery etc is free but requires online?

I think pretty much everything but arcade racing requires online, am not sure though.

The server stuff is my biggest worry though, I expect problems for the first few days tbh but I hope it is stable as after that.

So how is the HDR? I can't play on my HDR TV because I wanna use the wheel on my table. So monitor will have to do for now. I hope I'm not missing much.

Can't download the regular game and DLC because i'm stuck with a weird date issue on the base game. Ironically, everything from the deluxe upgrade could be downloaded. Already contacted Sony, but still waiting for their response.

Your Ps4 became self aware and is making a joke about Gran Turismo delays.
