I had to cheese the rally license tests by going to an automatic transmission and putting TCS to 2. Rally in GTS is unfun if you've played a significant amount of Dirt Rally or Dirt 4.

Driving perfection is the Porsche 911 GT3 around Nordscliefe with Sport hard tired and all assists off. My god. If I could make a online lobby of just this car and track it would be all I play. They really really need to pick two or three cars for a weekly spec series and the 911 would be perfect.

As someone that was on the fence because I was worried about not enough single player content, really glad I bought the game so far. Driving is also great enough to keep me coming back for online later. I missed you GT.

It's also unfun if you played Colin McRae rally in the '90s. It's an embarrassment compared to the road handling in the game.

I was going to be fiscally responsible and wait for Black Friday but totally impulse bought this on the PSN store and it’s downloading now. I’m excited. I haven’t played a GT since 2.

I have always been decent at racing games (played a lot of Forza and F1) but have some rust to shake off. Is the driving school stuff actually helpful? Thinking I should start there. Do I actually get to race in fast cars or is it just driving around cones or something?

Edit: I’m already looking at racing wheel options - my wife is going to kill me.

The driving school, mission challenges and the circuit experience are all helping me become a much better driver! And yes they have some cone challenges, and many full on race challenges too.

This is the most fun I've had with single player GT. But my GT history starts with 5!

If you’re looking to get better at racing this is the best game to do it. The events are helpful and gone is the terrible driving line that has held players back for a decade. Now there are markers which are better at teaching the player.

GT6. Better physics, more premium ps3-quality content (cars and tracks with dynamic time and weather.) Better course creator too. GT5 has 24h endurance races which is missing in GT6 and a better b-spec mode.

LOL, made that too! Played it a couple of weeks ago in a pub.

GTS is just another take on offroad driving. I like it. I like Dirt Rally too... Greece in the Lancia Fulvia... happy days!

PD only has half the frame time to work with compared to Evolution, so it's unrealistic to expect it to reach same level.

Dunno how I forgot about the menu and load times. It is indeed much better in GT6.

Just tried VR on a base PS4. [track] Textures are really low rez and the geometry is much reduced but wow it’s fun. Go karting in VR is insane. The wheel (T500RS) felt completely natural and immersive.

I couldn’t find the option to change the AI difficulty and the rubber banding was on. Hope they can do much more with the VR mode.

The only other downside is no green hell until level 20!

Wow, nice pedigree! Sounds like you should've been on the GT team.

I mean I can't argue that it's a take on offroad, but it's like it was made by people who had never seen rally driving or a good rally game before. It just lacks that oomph of wheels catching the dirt and sliding out, which to me is a prerequisite for good rally handling.

I wish all top time record screens for challenges and licenses and qualifying times would show you a better idea of where your time is outside the top 10
like rank for region or a bell curve or something.

You can't even judge if you are just outside the top 10 if there are 5 people ahead, or 500.

Other than beating your friends list or getting into the top 10 improving a time is a solitary activity.
