Like, I think Jiren is particularly bland, but to be fair... the entire series is really stupid. I mean, I think Dragon Ball is the best the series ever was, yet it was still stupid. Stupid by shonen standards, no less. So whatever, I guess.

We like a very stupid cartoon series. Some of us a just like some of the stupid things more than some of the other stupid things.

I am still SUPER hyped for this game!

I think everybody acknowledges this and any other names thrown about are for future DLC or revisions that will undoubtedly come eventually.

The best way to describe him is basically Alien Saitama.

Most of the focus in the latest arc are the characters around him rather than him directly.
 
So... you’d think you would want the Super characters front and center on the boxart. Since we have not gotten a boxart reveal yet.. maybe we are getting the Super reveals sooner than we thought?

Pretty much. Given everything we've gotten since the game was announced and what has happened during that development time, it shouldn't come as a shock at all if we get Beerus, Hit, and/or Goku Black gets into the roster and/or announced at the same time. I doubt anyone is going to lose sleep over Frost or Cabba if they don't make the cut while everyone else introduced will likely pop up (if they pop up) as DLC in the near future.

Hell, even if that were the case and we were going to see more DB Super characters, the question also falls on who they could add. When I look at the roster from the tournament of power, there is really only three people I would think of that could be added to DBFZ: Toppo, Jiren and I'll even go out on a limb and say Brianne from Universe 2 (aka the only character not from U6, U7 or U11 that has had some kind of impact on the story).

Even if she has barely anything at all, it feels like in terms of a move set, we have alot more to work with in making her moveset in comparison to the U6 Saiyans (and I feel as though that should Brolly find his way in, that probably would hurt Kale's chances).

I know, right. I'm catching up with Super ATM and having a greater time than expected, but if one thing bums me out about the show is how bad some of the new rival/villain designs are.

Like there's Goku Black and Zamasu which are great, but then there's this shitty buff generic martian guy and a purple walking penis in a coat.

Worse part is that they're fine otherwise and I want them in this or future games.

But Dragon Ball was cool because it used to be an extremely dumb shonen with amazing character designs.

I think we'll get more than that for DLC. I expect at least 8-10 DLC characters, especially if the base roster is only ~24 and/or we don't get a sequel by early 2019 (I'm expecting 2020 at the earliest for a sequel).

This is a good point. While you can certainly go with the traditional Z Warriors for the cover, Super is the new hotness, so including at least one or two Super characters on the cover makes sense. I'd expect Beerus and the two Super Saiyan Blues maybe? Goku Black could be confusing, especially since you have to assume real Goku will be on the cover no matter what.
 
Yeah, DB game covers have been strangely boring lately. I'm fully expecting just angry Goku featuring a couple silhouettes or Goku fighting Vegeta at best.

But his character design is just so. . bad. And why is he so powerful? Super does a really bad job at this. Characters who can match or exceed God Ki Saiyans (like Toppo, Hit, Jiren, etc) should be explicitly and thoroughly backstoried to explain why they are so powerful. Z does a good job with this except with the androids (why is mech Frieza with a base of 12 mil and much better than earth tech weaker than random teens outfitted with earth tech?)..

They are from different universes. I don't need much explanation. The universes were already ranked based on power scale weren't they?

Also Frieza just woke up the most powerful being in the universe in his arc, Cell was created by a human to be the most powerful being in his arc, and Buu was strong because reasons. So why should Super have to have a detailed backstory as to why someone is stronger than a Saiyan?

.........Z barley explained anything. The Saiyans are strong because their aliens. Frieza is strong because he’s also an alien I guess? Majin Buu was created by an evil wizard and that’s all the backstory you get. Almost every villain is strong because they are. Hell Super actually uses that as a plot point for Frieza.

You don’t need to like Jitendra or even Super but come on now.

I'm guessing people don't watch alot of Z here lol. In the backstory, Frieza blew up planet Vegeta and an army of Saiyans with one finger. Remember that scene? Buu killed and absorbed 4 Kaioshin. Those are Gods, yes. Cell absorbed a shit ton of people, 17 and 18, plus he has the cells of Frieza, Piccolo, Vegeta, Goku. Yes, this is what we call backstory.

Guys, you can do better than this. Saiyans are strong because of Zenkai. The damn ending song for 200+ episodes is called Dedekoi tobikiri Zenkai Power. They are strong because their power level increases when heavily damaged in battle. That's why Frieza feared their race, that eventually a Saiyan would be strong enough to go SSJ which happened thanks to Zenkai boosts in part.

Ok first off don’t try and goalpost who’s fans of Z here.

Second, Ok? But how does Frieza blowing up Planet Vegeta explain how he got that strong? You said characters this powerful should be thoroughly explained but it’s still just “Hey there’s this super powerful dude out there go get him!”

Also love you calling out people for not watching Z and then getting something wrong. Buu only absorbed 2 Kai’s South and the Grand Supreme Kai. Plus his backstory is evil wizard created him and then that’s it.

Like again I like most of these guys better then Jiren as his “arc” is still ongoing but cmon.

I 'm not sure what else to say. Buu, and Frieza have feats in their backstory that we see during the anime (blowing up vegeta, all the saiyans, or absorbing Kaioshin). Cell absorbed a ton of people and absorbed two powerful androids and has cells from Frieza, Piccolo, Goku, Vegeta.

Jiren has no impressive prior feats. He's just thrown into the story as a strong dude. He's a strong dude that could be stronger than a GoD.

I actually kinda agree with this and think it's a continual problem with Super. The badguys show up and almost immediately fight Goku/Vegeta. In past series there were always mooks to go up against first which helped build up the final boss a bit better.

I still enjoy Super, but completely understand this criticism.
 
Sayians haven't been the "ultimate warriors" since the end of the Frieza saga when 17 and 18 woke up strong enough for SSJ to be a joke. With infinite stamina no less.

And if you really think about it, SSJ wasn't even that huge of a leap because Piccolo could have fused with Kami a long time ago

DBZ has been doing this for ages...If Cell was still alive he'd probably be damn near the strongest being in the universe by now.


I think what Super is doing (that DBZ didn't, or didn't have the time to) is play out the idea of the potentials of the characters. By the simple logic of 17 being engineered (as in, he's strong not because of evolution) it makes plenty sense for him to be able to match Goku in strength potential.

And by the same logic that makes Goku/Frieza so strong, Jiren isn't all that odd of a character.

It's possible, I just don't think a 10 character DLC package makes sense. 5 sounds like DLC in-between 2 games of the same series. 10 sounds too much like an expansion to me.

Capcom can make 6 DLC characters in less than a year, so I think ASW can at least equal that if not better, especially with Bandai Namco supporting it. Unless they somehow plan to drop support of this game after only a year, I think we'll get at least two rounds of DLC.

For comparison, Xenoverse 2 got 10 DLC characters in about a year. I doubt they take as much work as a character in FighterZ would require, but that's still 10 in just one year. I expect 18-24 months of DLC support for this game unless they fast-track a sequel.
