It's going to be a long remainder of Gaf's life for the mods.
This whole ordeal reminds me so much of this:

Welcome to the NeoGAF lynch mob, where you are guilty until proven innocent, where relationships between humans are pure black and white and can never be ambiguous or misread, and where backing off when asked is akin to full-on rape.
Okay.
What other forum? Kotaku references this same fucking story. Tyler has a history of this shit and it's just "gossip" to you.
In a phone conversation with Kotaku, Leupp said that even after the alleged shower incident, she'd continued her friendship and even had a brief physical relationship with Malka until they had a falling out at E3 2015.
Honestly, I don't think doubling down on the lack of moderation transparency is going to help in the long run. How about actually coming up with better moderation guidelines, a less absurd system of punishments than junioring or flat out banning, holding mods accountable when they fuck up, and maybe make an appeals system to handle situations where questionable decisions were made?
Anyone who wants to know what happened, link them to this response, this is 100 what happened. And they remained friends quite a long time after and eventually more. The one time Gaf gets to show they aren't what the woman alt right man children say we are. Way too many of us prove them right. We will rebuild for damn sure though. Thankfully some responses in this thread make it way too easy.I'm as liberal as it gets, and I certainly wouldn't be the first to defend Evilore, but let's not make the situation out to be more than it was. Tyler awkwardly misread a situation, but the internet is making it seem like he assaulted the poor girl. When a man and a woman are sharing a hotel room, and there's alcohol involved, and someone goes in the shower and leaves the door open - it's not out of the realm of possibility that a person could misread the signs and make a pass. What's important is that both sides agree that, when she made it clear she wasn't interested, he backed off and respected her wishes. That's the difference between consent and non-consent.
If every man (or woman) was ripped to shreds and had their careers ended because they misread some social signs, half of the country would be out of a job. It sounds like a misunderstanding that never escalated beyond that point. I don't see how anyone can equate this as a 'me too' sexual assault situation. Yes women need to be believed, but in her version of the story he made a mistake and backed off when she made that clear. That's all you can ask of someone in that situation.
This definitely feels like the spark that blew up a gas tank, but let's not make the spark out to be a forest fire. This is a real person's life we're talking about here. This is nothing close to a Harvey Weinstein situation.
But you see, that's the thing. Tyler let that happen. And he never gave any indication that he cared. Whatsoever. He could have stopped it. At any time. But didn't.
So why believe him at all now, when he says he suddenly cares? When he let that go on for months, with no indication at all that he cared for found it to be a problem at all? If this is how Tyler truly felt, he could have done something a whole lot earlier. But he didn't. He did nothing instead.
So why believe him now instead, that he suddenly cares about any of that? I prefer to believe who people are the first time.
It just makes no sense to do this NOW, instead of say right after or during the US election stuff. Why only blow up the OT now, in the middle of all this harassment-allegations stuff instead? Why were absolutely ZERO indications given that this was something Tyler was considering or how he felt beforehand, absolutely ZERO, if this has nothing to do with the allegations at all? Why now, instead of then?
Nothing about this makes sense. And if this is how you truly feel, that should only make you condemn Tyler moreso, and lesser. Because he had all the problem to do something, for months. But did nothing instead. Just let it happen, without any indication he cared at all.
Until now. I wonder what changed...?
Either way, how can you trust the judgment of such a man who's decisions and feelings just change on a whim like that? He gave no indication of that before. And if that's how he truly felt, he had no reason to keep it hidden. So what does that mean, not just for the present, but also the future? What else is he keeping secret? What other huge changes can happen on a moment's notice?
If that was how he truly felt about he OT, there was no reason not to be more forward about it. He had all the ability to. It's his sight. But he did nothing instead. Until now. Suddenly, all at once. In the middle of something completely unrelated.
That doesn't sound like good judgment to me. Just keeping something like that all bottled up, for days upon days, weeks upon weeks, months upon months, until it all boils out an once. Why not do something sooner? Why not at least give an indication, a warning that things need to change, ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL, that things need to change in the OT, if that's how he felt?
Why now, instead? How can you trust the judgment of a man who hesitated so much, if that's how you truly feel? How can you be sure he won't hesitate again?
This just doesn't make sense at all, and I can not possibly be satisfied with such an illogical response.
Pretty common for GAF. He's always been the bearer of bad news, thread closings, uppity ultimatums, and the guy everybody loves to hate.
I still remember how livid I was over the Iwata statement.
Is this site gonna become another alt-right haven like 4chan has become? I hope not, but the way some people are talking in this thread...
Dude, she literally slept with him afterwards and remained friends for a time. He read some signals wrong while drunk. He fucked up for sure. Nobody was raped or murdered. In a more sane time, both of them would've laughed it off nervously the next day and gone about their life.
If this happened just ten or fifteen or so years ago it woudn't of been a big deal to anyone, to Tyler, to her, and likely most of all the GAF community at large.
But everyone has to be a victim now for social brownie points, so carry on.
See this is just crazy. 1 idiot writes this and you try to condemn a whole website. How the fuck is this logical? Lots of recent OT members were like this. I just don't understand
This whole thing is bullshit. You're all setting fire to your accounts out of a false sense of righteousness.
There's no assault here.
He left when she said fuck off.
Really bad time to present yourself. But ok... you hook up weeks later.
This is what you're setting fire to your accounts over.
Get some perspective ya weirdos.
Tyler was very brave to speak up about his side of the story but you're all throwing it back at his face...
When it comes to all the users who were banned unfairly (ala when the unnamed mod banned hundreds of users without due process and without telling anyone), will there be any kind of appeals process? You'd think NeoGAF would try to address what may be a severe user drain by acknowledging former veteran posters who do want to post here.
EXACTLY! Believe her if you want but arrive at that with ALL the facts. So ummm, I checked the kotaku article and HOLY SHIT:
They had a sexual relationship after the alleged incident? So why I should believe this person's accusations again?
I didn't. I bet I can guess who you, and the super majority of GAF voted for though
Random? It's one of the most well known.

You'll notice by my post that I haven't touched the EviLore subject at all. His actions in response to this debacle have ruined this community, and not what he may or may not have done with that lady back then.
You won't have a hard time finding discourse usually associated with the alt-right in this thread - stuff that a lot of users have been keeping to themselves in shame for a long time, but now feel safe enough to spit out there. It's dishearthening.
Yeah, it was nothing to get angry at, like this OP.what statement? after mr. iwata passed?
Some of y'all just continuing to act like nothing happened are just as bad as Malka to be honest.
"BUT THE GAEMS!!!1"
I'm glad this place is back. It's still my favourite gaming forum, mainly because it's just that - a forum of threads and posts, with none of the needles social media/aggregation hooks of other sites.
That being said, the new management structure raises some concerns and questions which I hope are answered in the near future:
- If moderation is going to be anonymous, how will moderators be held accountable? You will need a process to review moderators and their decisions to ensure the rules are being applied consistently and fairly.
- How on Earth are you going to police political discussion? There are so many ifs and buts and politics reaches so deeply into culture and media that attempting to determine what constitutes a political thread is going to be more trouble than actually moderating it.
Is it up yet? After 5 minutes of googling I couldnt find a link. The new forum. Where a good portion of the community is headed off to.
lol
Hi.
An allegation of sexual misconduct has been made against me by an ex. It's not true, the individual making the accusation isn't credible, the story doesn't reconcile logically with the facts, and there's plenty of evidence and witnesses to corroborate that. It'll be a process.
All allegations of this nature are serious, of course. I first got word of it on Wednesday when a screenshot of a Facebook post was handed to Voat. I immediately talked with my mod team about the contents of the screenshot and clarified that it was baseless and explained some of the details concerning my former associations with her, and tried to ensure any concerns from the team were addressed fully and transparently to everyone's satisfaction. On Thursday I heard that she had deleted the accusation from Facebook, and wasn't entirely sure how to proceed from there or how this would all play out in the public space at that point. Then, Friday morning, the screenshot made its way to NeoGAF and chaos ensued.
I was in the process of writing a statement that entire day to address formally address the allegation, but the community had erupted in a flash that morning. While the moderation team was trying to restore the peace, accusations and threats concerning the screenshot started shifting to them as well by association with me, and I was asked by my team to do something to fix things and get the heat off of all of them at least. I was beyond exhausted by that point, though, stretched too thin in the time since the post had first appeared and seeing unprecedented events unfold on NeoGAF. I was slow and weak. I failed to handle it quickly enough and let the team down. Before I could finish a statement and get it out there, understandably some mods hit their emotional limit, expressed concerns about the community coming after them, and decided to leave. A few people resigned, and many more quickly followed for similar reasons, citing stress and harassment. The site started breaking under load spikes leading up to the first resignations, too, and then flatlined altogether, so issuing a statement at that time on NeoGAF itself became impossible for the time being, and my attention shifted toward the moderation team's future.
Since that whole mess, lasting from Friday morning through Saturday, before we formally went offline for maintenance and repair and restructure, we've just been trying to figure out the best course of action for NeoGAF going forward. And as stories began being published by various outlets, I issued some comments to the press, since everything coming out was proving to be sensationalized, opportunist, and unprofessional.
We've all become increasingly stressed and weary this year in ways even I'm not accustomed to by now, and discussions on heated news, political issues, and social issues on the off-topic side of the site have become areas no one has wanted to moderate in the open for fear of backlash or just general exposure to the inevitable toxicity. I've gone in there myself to take the heat, since it's very much my responsibility to do so before anyone else's, but there's been little headway, mostly just more anger and resentment and a lot of bans. I don't think this necessarily reflects on our community; more so the tone of the entire internet this year with regards to heated issues.
That's all going to inform the way forward for NeoGAF as we refocus on what the main goals are supposed to be for the site. The mod team will talk about more specifics on what that will entail below.
One last thing. The NeoGAF mod team is here for this community; all of you. You have no obligations to respect me or believe anything I say about my personal life one way or another, but if you're going to be here and participate on NeoGAF, respect the mod team by following the rules and behaving. The team is diminished at the moment and the folks who stuck around care very much about this community and its future. Be considerate of them. That's non-negotiable.
Thanks.
Alright so are you gonna unban Boogie by the way?
Or maybe you could apologize to him?
It's hilarious seeing people go ape shit over a total non-story. He misread the situation and made a move. The horror.
