Oh thank god, I'm not the only one.
Its a group text/voice chat app.
I use it with about 15 old Halo friends to keep in touch now. Not sure how much good it would be with dozens/hundreds of people though :/
Oh thank god, I'm not the only one.
I don't know any forum that was more moderated than NeoGAF. In fact NeoGAF and it's users prided themselves on the strict moderation that was among others culling hate speech.
/r/games is a neat place. There are idiots, just like everywhere, but overall, it's pretty good. Why don't you give it a shot and take a peek?
You're gonna replace people like Durante? Good luck with that.
Yeah, I know. We will see how it develops during the next few days (and especially the weekend). Media Create is continuing at least and Chris may or may not come back. He is waiting until the dust settles to make a decision which is definitely the best thing to do. I'm sure other users feel the same way.
I always thought that aside from other message boards thinking that we were elitists of some sort, that NeoGAF was always kind of respected.
More like Google 2.0 where Google means Privacy Gathering and 2.0 means 2 times as much collecting.

You got your servers on the left, each server can have multiple text and voice channels and you go from there. Its a very nice replacement for Skype, but not for a forum for obvious reasons
I sure hope things stabilize soon, pretty much everyone is on edge since these events started unfolding.
This right here.I'm just going to say that I've been on another forum for 12 years that had zero moderation. Compared to GAF that had a much higher rate of moderation.
The unmoderated forum was fun in a way, discussions were more like real life where people took sides and had dramatic arguments. But it drove people away. People didn't get banned, they straight up left because they didn't feel like dealing with the BS anymore. The only people who post there now are because it has now been reduced to about 12 people who consider themselves friends, but the forum will likely never gain a new user ever again. And now that the users aren't just a bunch of teenagers, and have real lives, the forum barely has enough activity to sustain itself. And it used to be one of the biggest Pokemon forums between 2004-2006. The old regulars had favors over new people, and the only soft rule was "don't be a shitposter" and if you were someone the regulars didn't like they would dogpile on you.
Compared to that, GAF had some favoritism, but the community was diverse enough to where people could have small groups of support for each other. I'm not sure where NeoGAF is heading, but I want to see it improve from where it was and currently is. Will I continue to enjoy Neogaf? I want to, I surely do. But there needs to be some level of order. It's too early to tell right now what the future holds.
Ah, thanks for the heads up.Its a group text/voice chat app.

He condoned it because his opinion on the situation was formed completely independently from anything gamergate said or did. The comment didn't justify a ban. He offered no endorsement of gamergate of any kind.
He just asserted basically that they are right for the wrong reasons in this specific situation, but they are a "broken clock" meaning they are garbage in general.
Completely unjustified ban.
I've seen cuck, snowflake, triggered and sjw used unironicly in this thread, I don't like new gaf.

I hope this was an elaborate account suicide because if these are your actual views... LOLYou Crossing Eden. You were one of, perhaps the biggest SJW Cuck on here. Every fucking thread you derailed with your pointless SJW shit. Of course due to the nazi mods and the fact that only SJWs were left at this point, that's it - the thread now had to be about that. Once someone made a social justice post the thread was now about that. You weren't allowed to get back on topic. Everyone had to pander to your delusional and retarded world view. I never really used this word before but you're a fucking cuck of the highest magnitude. Sort yourself out.
I received one ban in my time here.
I said that a comment made about white people was a racist comment and questioned why it is allowed on Gaf
3 week ban. For being off topic. But the ban message was very smug imo. "This thread is not about your hurt feelings about reverse racism"
I didn't come back after the ban. Not until Monday when I heard old mods gone. I am willing to give new mods a chance.
Yes I believe it was a BS ban.
This right here.
All of you guys that didn't like the previous moderation had plenty of other places to go. So why didn't you go there? The thing that made GAF special in the first place was the moderation. If you really hated it so much you should have at least turned that energy inward and questioned your own behavior instead of blaming the mods for something you have the power to change. Y'know... being able to question oneself and accept criticism is kind of a cornerstone of living a healthy, happy adult life. Unfortunately EL couldn't manage even the slightest bit of it, so here we are at last.
Without the moderation GAF is no different from many of the other unmoderated spaces on the Internet you could freely participate in. I don't see the point in having yet another space like that when they're a dime a dozen. Go pick one and stick with it. Or, if you really don't like those spaces either, maybe question why that might be the case?
What were they right about? I really want to know.
He, Nintendo, and Gamergate all thought that she should be fired. They didn't all take the same path to get there. But that doesn't mean any of those parties endorse any of the others' overall worldview and activities, in any way. This isn't that difficult to grasp.

Haha indeed thats meYou're the Zelda speedrunning dragonbane? Cool
Discord's mobile app is actually quite decent but the whole program is focussed around whats happening currently. If you are in a big server its impossible to keep up and can kinda be lost in the conversationsThanks dragonbane. I only use GAF on my phone at work basically so this may not be ideal for me. Will see what happens if I don't get banned first for my opinion on EvilLore.
If that's the case, to whoever was cool to me: see yas later, it's been real and thanks for the fun.
I don't think that poster is saying NeoGaf was not deserving of respect. I think the poster was laughing at the inability to understand the deep deep hatred a lot of people (either far-right types, previously banned members, etc) have for this place.Yeah why would a place that most of the major gaming news sites tralled for new stories respect this place? Why would a place where tons of tech experts hung around and interacted and helped the community get and respect? Why would a place where sales insiders and experts regaled us with all kinds of info and talked to us gain any respect? Why would a place frequented and talked about by developers from all over the gaming spectrum garner any respect? Why would a place that so many minority communities found as a welcoming home where they could chat and post without the overt harassment faced elsewhere earn any respect? Yeah who would honestly respect this place.

You know how the world works. People are less likely to notice the good, while being more likely to notice the bad. And some of your bullet points have become less true over time. The alt-right type element whipping people into a frenzy didn't help the perception either rightfully or wrongfully. But there were other reasons that not everybody thought gaf was just swell, and they've been well covered in this topic. This is the reality.

When the trolls and the worst shitposters finally leaves, we'll see.

If anything the Alt Right, GG, VOAT and others hating GAF so damn much is because it remained so well known and respected by anyone that hadn't gone down the drain.

Ah never mind. With his reaction, I assume Prag16 just pokes some fun. There is a sizable group who... well lets say it nicely, don't care much for GAF.
Honest question, what do you guys think? With the current light moderation, do you think that this place has turned into an Irish Pub/Russian bar post midnight when everyone has reached the maximum gauge?
Ok, I've mostly posted in this thread the last few days with some lurking and posting on the front page, but besides the cursing kamikaze drama queens and some truely stupid posts I don't see a big difference to what was going on before.
We haven't gone from Lord Hincersby's tea party at Chatéau Bellecock to Mermaid's Inn at the docks is what I'm trying to say....
lurked more than posted, but alot of my favorite posters are leaving.
Yeah when I see all these folks asking for it I wonder if half of them know what it is. Not really my thing personally.Discord is like this:

Wait... so we cant edit our post anymore
Edit. Ok
respected hahaha I read all the way thru that post and you got me good.
Well played sir!

Oh I absolutely agree. There are times where I started reading a thread, wanted to comment, but the amount of dogpiling on terrible comments was a bit too much. I always commented when things started to settle. But thats mostly the gamingside. Some folks could really pursue people and I wasn't interested in those kind of dicussions. I can totally understand people being sick of that.A little from column A, a little from column B. There are the assholes that hate gaf because they are assholes. But there are of course the issues with moderation, and toxicity even on the gaming side dogpiling devs and press and etc etc.
That's what I meant about some of the bullet points less true now than in the past... some in the industry were driven away because people could go overboard.
As for Dyack. Well.
Against.
Considering its massive size I think reddit provides a good aggregation of outside opinion. Check out this thread if you want to see what people are saying: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/782ca6/neogaf_goes_silent_following_allegations_against/Can you elaborate or post some links? I always thought that aside from other message boards thinking that we were elitists of some sort, that NeoGAF was always kind of respected.
To be honest? Every single forum I've been part of during my time on the internet. Granted, most of those were in my native language and for whatever reason, people are way less aggressive there. I was even an s-moderator in a larger one, so I'm pretty familar with what works best and such things.
On the international side, I'm part of TeamLiquid which had and still has stricter moderation. Other forums pretty much died out and one pretty active one I ignore since the community is "meh" (some anime listing site which you may know), so I can't say much about that. There is also a really great forum about IT, finance, business and such. Don't really want to name it here but I can send you a link if you are interested.
Though, one forum that actually is less moderated came to my mind...and that is the GOG forum. Granted, it's not nearly as bad as this place, so it does need less moderation but I'm pretty sure they either have no moderator or it's so rarely moderated that people don't see it.
Sorry, but that style of commenting doesn't really work for me, at all. It's why I stay with "traditional" forums and also why I really appreciate this place, as it is nice, clear and easy to read.
the story doesn't reconcile logically with the facts, and there's plenty of evidence and witnesses to corroborate that.
Almost 48 hours since he posted this. That must be quite the collection of solid evidence he's gathering.
