We have Discord to talk about what happened here. The community got a chance to vent over the last 3-4 days and heal. I'm still talking about some unsavory GAF posts on Discord with other members.
We're not taking that baggage to the new forum.

Anyone who thinks talk or mention of NeoGAF is banned there is delusional. There's no blanket ban. It's just discouraged as we want to give people a fresh start. You're allowed to mention NeoGAF in your posts if you'd like to. It's not a banned term like it is here.

Its not a good thing to people looking to further the us vs them mentality so anything they can use to say "look look censorship they don't want X Y Z" that fits the narrative

Wish I'd joined the Discords before I've no chance of getting in now.

People might want GAF to weather the storm, I want GAF to weather the storm, one person may have created the site domain but the community created NeoGAF, so as a community we could have weathered the storm and I truly think lore should have stepped down until this issue was resolved as a minimum.

But alas some saw this as an opportunity for open rebellion and an end to Rules, people left due to their own convictions and the actions of others since is continually forcing others to leave the site or lurk only at the very least.

Regardless of the end result moderation needs to be stepped up and a crack down on abuse needs to be undertaken!

I'll take your word for it. I read the announcement, and I saw people on the site referring to Gaf as "that site that shall not be named", so I assumed that was the case. Maybe I just missed the joke.

Unfortunately I can't link to what i'm talking about, because there is censorship on this ridiculous site as well. I didn't think highly of the statement regardless.

Incorrect, plenty were banned by mods they weren't performing their job correctly.

A former mod on here let her boyfriend log in under her account and he was banning people.

People have been vetted, it's easy to see why the where banned, their posting history or banning reason was looked into.

Dude I HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE. And i was not on discord or anything else. I was definitely not vetted. So i can assure you there are people there who were not vetted lol get real. Hell the create an account was broke yesterday and randos were making accounts.

Looks like a lot of members were holding a grudge against GAF for different reasons and are now using this episode, and the promise of a rising new community, to jump ship.

People going rogue, posting stuff against the usual rules (when not against decency and common sense), expressing their hatred for former mods and gaf "ideals" shows they were not satisfied with how things were handled and not necessarily in agreement with the values around here, they just had to play along because there was no alternative.

What happened though, is that with GAF going offline for 2 days and looking like it might have never recovered, people were panicking and looking for alternatives. When they felt confident enough they'd find (or raise) a new community where they'd fit, they started judging GAF from the outside, remembered of all the times they thought mods abused their power and either realised or convinced themselves that they didn't really like it here after all.
The episode i feel is mostly a pretext for a lot of people.

Regardless, it's been a few days, granted, but this new gaf doesn't quite feel right and i am not sure things can ever be the same.

Most of the people who jumped ship were the biggest contributors and community leaders.

Yes, and everybody decided to become all high and mighty now which is what gets me. His questionable behavior was known before. I'm quite certain that some of the people that left here knew about it before, too. No one but people who are ok with condoning sexual assault and revenge porn in the end though. GAF will just become a haven for GG/Alt-Right. That future is pretty dang clear now.

This forum will be deader than a doorknob other than those types. It already is. Look at the difference in the Mario Odyssey review threads. GAF's is dead. RE's is massively active.

Yeah none of this info except for the recent event are new, so I am not exactly sure where the problem is.

The recent accusation seems like a non-event and that is taking into account both EL's and the accuser's story. I mean come on... THEY HAD A RELATIONSHIP AFTERWARD!

What is happening is more a symptom of where this forum has been headed for years which is a cult of intolerance. Except this time it wasn't users being banned/attacked it is now the owner himself.

Any rational minds might have considered that this isn't worth a mass exodus or the downfall of this site and EL.

Unfortunately this community has been anything but rational the last few years.
