It's a shame really, I'm not sure this website will ever recover from this. It's too tarnished from this whole situation and how Evilore responded to this.
There could have been some hope I guess if Evilore resigned and left the reigns in the hands of someone else instead of blaming his ex, but I seriously doubt he'll ever do that.

The far-left aligns with the neurotic idea that most people are inherently evil, justifying a crusade which tickles a fashionably misanthropic 'them and us' tribalism. Strength in numbers is a great antidote for self-doubt. Picking a side and going to war -particularly one without fatal consequences- simply feels good, always has.
The far-right does the same, with a different voice, but the underlying addiction to adversarial pleasures comes from the same primitive place. The difference is that the left claims the high horse and should in theory know better, but rarely does.
Of course, these philosophies have to operate under the notion that people are one-dimensional A or B thinkers, ignoring the reality that the average human being is an incredibly complex and unique animal, and that the vast majority of people align with neither far-left nor far-right. But no, buying into a childish lie is less challenging and more rewarding.

OT was a disaster zone right before GAF was taken offline. Total shit show. It would probably be worse right now. Gaming at least resembled a little bit of gaming side.
I would counter that and claim you're being overly dramatic. I know you understand that members who will still participate here don't excuse sexual harassment. It's an easy blanket statement to make- owner of site does thing, people still participate, people are ok with thing. Problem is, a community is not a reflection or an extension of any one person. It's the sum of each individual who participates.
What's going on here is fairly rote when it comes to internet drama. People lose their minds on the internet at the drop of a hat, i.e. making their own site that mirrors the bad site but it's pure and wholesome without the bad person, only the bad people stayed, etc.

Yeah, I remember seeing that back when it was new.
It's all nice and good except for the fact that the people you're pissed about were not far left. NeoGaf was never far left. There were a handful of posters who actually said they were socialists / communists.

That's an easier thing to be related back to than EviLore's sexual misconduct. "ResetEra" uses active language which evokes more attention to this specific event that the new site developed from.
May I ask how you know that this is the same person that owns this forum here?

Thank you for the good times, GAF community. It's been over eleven years somehow. My participation was mostly limited outside of a couple niche topics, but I appreciate all of the great people, content, and the uniqueness that the site had. My main regret is lurking too much. You don't know what you have until it is gone.
And it is gone - this forum is dead to me. I've been fortunate enough to connect with some great GAF people in Discord and on other sites, so that's where I'll hang for now.
Anyways,

I'm not pissed. But I do think the mandate sustained by much of the community prior to the site going down prevented adult discussion. It was dogmatic, aggressive, and puerile.
Whether GAF can ever cultivate a healthy, balanced, self-policed community going forward or not is unknown, but the mass exodus of a large number of reactionary and vitriolic dramatists gives me hope.

For me, politics ruined this forum. I haven't posted here in a couple years or more, it has become a political echochamber and to deny that is to be pretty naive about the reality of all of this.
I saw many people, including myself getting temp banned for saying the most innocuous things, basically if you don't align politically with the moderators, they'll exercise their power and you're cast aside, that's not the kind of environment that I want to be around, because it kills critical thinking and meaningful discussion, you have to think twice about what you're saying in case you might "offend" someone, specially any moderator that might be reading your comment.
I'm no one to tell you what to you, but what I can try and say is to be very wary of hive-mind places like this, they can be detrimental to yourself and society, this used to be a gaming forum that became some sort of far left discussion and enforcement center, and ultimately is what killed it... That is of course, how I see it as someone on the outside looking in, I hope we can one day go back to our passion, GAMING and be excellent to each other once more.

You're in denial, oblivious, or a liar if you sincerely think that GAF didn't have a near consensus political view that was pushed aggressively in every thread that brought about even an ounce of social commentary. There was very little room given for opinions beyond that consensus, as anyone who expressed such views was chastised, insulted or banned.
Denying this was ever an issue just means that y'all have learnt fuck all from this fiasco, and if Off-topic ever does return, the same shit is going to become the norm yet again. If that's the case, I hope it doesn't come back.
