Remember Me, Vampyr? Is Vampyr being sent out to bomb and potential sleeper of year?

DONTNOD just can't seem to catch a break sometimes, the developer of Remember Me and the critically acclaimed Life Is Strange is releasing Vampyr next Tuesday. Yet oddly enough it seems like there's zero marketing for the upcoming title. Outside of some developer gameplay streams there's been almost literally nothing, no banner ads on any major sites. It's not featured on the front page of pre-orders for PSN or anything. Has there been anything on Xbox One's store? With the lack of marketing I was expecting a delay possibly but it still launches Jun. 5th. Typically most marketing is done pre launch obviously and you would think since it comes out the same week as E3 you would want it's name out as much as possible.

The game itself looks fine really, while what's shown doesn't seem to leap out I think there might be something there. There's some interesting eurojank rpg stuff in it. While the facial animations look a bit funny, the atmosphere and rpg stuff look pretty well done. It definitely gives off a mix modern day deus ex mixed with vampire.



Possible sleeper of the year maybe? DONTNOD is a pretty talented studio really. Just what's going on with it seems really odd for a game with it's budget being sold at full priced on consoles, (it's a bit cheaper on steam).
 
DontNod is a very... meh developer for me. I enjoyed ideas from Remember Me and Life is Strange, but ultimately both games were poorly written messes that did not make good on their gameplay. I feel Vampyr is very much going to be the same.
 
Vampyr seems to have caught the eye of several people. I had it preordered, but I got a different game instead.

I tried showing my wife the trailer from E3 and that had zero gameplay and then I showed her some beta footage from the graveyard. She didn't like it. I wasn't as impressed as I was when I was reading everyone's comments about how great it looks.

I believe it's more of a AA game than a AAA. That's as much as I understand. The idea of killing the wrong person and locking yourself out of areas of the game is cool. I feel like its going to try very hard because on the surface it looks so generic. I'm not one to complain about graphics either.

The combat looks very simplistic. The characters take some time to warm up to, so each piece of dialogue feels so empty. I might be wrong. I wasn't into Life is Strange. I was more into TV shows like 13 Reasons Why and Degrassi when it comes to teen dramas. I especially get skeptical when it's a game. Other than that Vampyr sounds like it could be a sleeper hit too.

I grew up with shows like Dark Shadows because of my parents. Outside of a few well known Vampire games, there's not a lot of leg room to impress me.

Their previous work is pretty poor so I find it hard to get all that excited for this despite them saying everything I want hear. The combat looking so dreadfully boring doesnt help.
 
I thought Remember Me was a solid game and Life is Strange was an amazing game. I have Vampyr pre ordered. Focus is the publisher though and they are a downgrade from Capcom and Square-Enix.
 
I'm interested but will wait for a sale I think. There's not enough time to play all the games I own at the minute, let alone if I bought stuff on release.

I predict this will be a profitable venture but it will take time for the sales to build up before probably appearing on Plus in a year's time.
 
Life is Strange was the most overrated piece of shit i've ever played in my life. I made it to chapter 4 and then quited it and uninstalled it.

Vampyr also looks very boring. I have to force myself to even watch the whole trailers.
 
I have it preordered, enjoyed both LiS and RM. And I love the victorian london setting + storydriven RPG as a genre is the best genre.

Hopefully it will be good!
 
Im on the fence. Love the ideas, hesistant about execution. Dont love dont nods previous endeavors. Hope this is successful for them. When games get little marketing, the only way itll catch on is through stellar word of mouth and reviews.
 
WTF is wrong with UI in this game? It looks like utter shit and not even stylised to fit the theme of the game. Damn, what a piss-poor job.
 
I really want this game to be good, I love vampire or werewolf related things in general and the lore of this game look promising, but for the marketing part, yes it's Focus so not surprising at all. I'm living in France and even here we don't have ads on sites, magazines or any tv spot (well I don't watch TV so maybe, but I don't think).

There is a preview here (in French, don't know how to link it with google trad but you can right click and translate it in English) from February that say the game is "promising" but now we just have to w&s I guess.
 
Remember Me had a jewel of a game mechanic in there. If there were more of the memory re-writes, then it would have been a pretty interesting game. To me it was the combat that made it super dull.
 
This does look super fun and polished just finished the dev stream posted in this thread.

Will definitely under perform. Such is the fate of cool games. The masses like a bunch of crap and I don't understand why
 
Just watched the video. Looks pretty good. I like the atmosphere and certainly the idea of playing as a newly born vampire. I also like the abilities that were shown and the various ways to use them.
Wasn't crazy about the camera during the dialogue screens though the way it slowly panned between characters and their voices pausing dialogue until the camera hits them was kinda weird.
Still, looking forward to this will play if/when it appears on ps+ or gwg.
 
That's like saying a Spiders game is being sent out to bomb. I think there has to be some expectation it was going to sell in the first place to make that statement. I suspect the vast majority of people have no idea about this game and have never heard about it. It has has less hype than Elex or technomancer at this point.
 
This isn't a AAA game so it doesn't have a AAA marketing budget. This kind of game doesn't have the mainstream appeal required to sell millions of copies so Focus isn't going to spend as much marketing it.

That's okay, though. The reason why Focus can be a dedicated AA publisher is because they understand their audience and can budget accordingly. Marketing Vampyr like the next God of War or Call of Duty would be a gross waste of money and would basically guarantee that the game wouldn't even break even.

Finished it today, got it on Friday. I am very fond of it. Good Story. Refreshing Vampire Lore to uncover. Game takes pretty long to complete.
Plays almost like bloodborne (less refined combat) but with heavy story and RPG mechanics. Awesome plot twists are also included.
Those choices you have to make are really unnerving because things never turn out as you expected. You think choice A makes sense, nah due to some unforeseen consequences all you hoped for turned out different. And since the game uses autosave you can't go back.
Really refreshing and awesome.

  • While it's also very story focused with branching paths and the ability to screw your self from some quest by killing the wrong person, it has a much more serious tone.
  • It's not tied to the popular role playing books, so as far as we know, there are no clans with special powers and hidden Vampire societies.
  • Crosses and the need to be invited in a house to enter are a thing here among other classic Vampire quorks.
  • Your character was a Doctor, and he strugles to keep his humanity. Eat and level up or starve and struggle.
  • The people of the town are numbered, named and limited, and they have schedules, opinions and relatives.
  • Eating them is the primary way of getting Exp, and if you eat to many the place will go to shit with many consequences.
While it won't have the cheesiness, sarcasm and power fantasy of VTM:B, at least this time it will be a finished product, and it appears to be a pretty faithful Vampire Simulation with a decent branching story.
If you where a fan of VTM:B, give it a go. Just be open minded.

Ever since Legacy of Kain faded away I've wanted a game like this. I wouldn't mind seeing a remaster of that whole series either.
