Ramadan 2018

First off, Ramadan mubarak. I'm surprised there isn't a thread about Ramadan this year.

We are currently on its 6th day, and it seems to be a shortened month (29 days) this year. I am in the UK, where the fast is approaching 18.5 hours!

Never really understood the fasting side of Ramadan. It's infinitely better for the body to eat in the daytime and then 'fast' from evening meal onwards. God fails again :(

The sooner we evolve to a time where religion has died out the better.

No offence.

Stop screwing up someone's thread. It's obviously not a discussion of the merits of religion. Adding "no offense", when you went out of your way to discuss something out of topic, is just shitty. It's the equivalent of doing something shitty, then immediately shouting "just a prank bro".

Ramadan mubarak.

To feel the impact on less able people, poor people, etc.. and can create sympathy for others as you are all equal, with no food/water/smokes , when you meet someone else fasting and you both have that ' I know how you feel ' look it does bring you closer to other humans who are usually worse off than you.

Ramadam is based on lunar cycles so that's why it started later this month. The guy who runs the local shop is a muslim and i always feel sorry for him at this time of the year because he has to get up earlier just so he can have his morning meal and he's starving by lunchtime. The poor guy really suffers through Ramadam.

We are on the second to last day of the month, as Shawal (the subsequent month) should start Friday.

Zain released their commercial/song for Eid Al-fitr this year, but the song in 2014 is still paramount:

LTTP Ramadan Mubarak To my fellow Gaffers! Eid Mubarak too - hope you all have a great Eid with Friends & Family alike!

I agreed to partake in Ramadan for a friend. I'm not religious in the slightest, but decided to go along with it with a few changes; mainly that I would eat a small breakfast when I woke up, so I wouldn't have to wake up before 4:30, and I also chose to drink water because of my heavy activity level.

My ability to exercise was really reduced. I bike 20 miles after work, and on the way home from the single track on day 2 I had to start stopping for breaks. I nearly passed out on a 14 mile hike on day 3, which at that point I chose to break the fast and ate 150 calories, because I didn't feel safe. Ultimately I converted it into a minimal calorie intake for a week or so before just stopping all together.

I guess it's now Eid Mubarak!

Nice to see some fellow muslims on the board.

Missed the Eid prayer because I'm in a different country and couldn't find a mosque despite getting clear directions, I only blame myself. Now I feel horrible, never missed an Eid prayer before. Ah well I tried.

Same for us too - we make some lovely food and share it others (muslims and non-muslims alike). We also give out presents / gifts / money to children & family (kinda like xmas) to celebrate the occasion.

I'm guessing it'll depend on each person's culture. My family will make some special food to give out to other people and we'll set aside some of it for ourselves.

I don't know how to describe the food but I'll attempt it anyways as I don't have pics.

My parents are getting older so they don't make as much as they used to. They only made 3 things this year in bulk: handesh (a brown, doughy, sugary thing), nuner bora (a yellow, biscuit like, doughy, ginger based thing), and aloo chop (croquets).

In previous years they used to make shemai (a milk based thing with small noodle like things in it).

Very nice, a lot of biscuit themed treats it seems. I'd kill a plate of aloo chop rn
