They do it occasionally. I've seen it a few times. Most times though its deemed a lost cause if they feel no productive discussion can be had and in this case I think that will happen. Its a no win thread. People will come in and make ignorant statements, other people will get outraged, and then mods will have to come in again.

Well they already did that once in october so I really don't see the difference, and m0dus already made a theme, but decided to remove it after the drama.

I still don't see it imploding unless there's some scandal involving an admin like what happened with EviLore here. Otherwise it's just like old GAF (but on steroids) it's past 2-3 years before that event led to the implosion and mass exodus. Crazy, bullshit posting and moderation in the political and social issue threads, but most of the game and random OT threads are fine and people who don't care about the poltical/social stuff just stay the fuck out of those topics and are unaffected by it. As long as the people making OTs and community threads are sticking around and being active, they'll be fine. That's what keeps people coming back, generating ad views and some paying for the ad free yearly subscription.

I left it, but mostly as the fanboy non-sense on gaming is too absurd (very much like old GAF--though it's still pretty bad in some threads here). I mostly (and now totally) stay out of those social/political topics. I spend enough time/energy on that on the real world and just want to have fun chatting hobbies and random topics when I come to a gaming forum. I'm not saying topics should be limited to just those things. Just that implosion isn't inevitable even when the crazies and mods are being insane in the political/social threads as most members are there for the game news, game OTs, gaming community threads and what not and relatively unaffected by it as that stuff tends to be contained in thread dedicated to those kind of topics and most people don't care enough to "boycott" by leaving due to mod/admin behavior they disapprove of in threads they don't enter. Same with here, I don't like the tone of the political/social thread at all (though the moderation here is MUCH better)--but I can stay out of them and enjoy the game threads and random threads.

Does it matter? Reading from multiple angles, sources and discussions can only help broaden your view. Staying with one view without being open to what's outside that view will only result in tunnel vision and echochambers.

If they want to lurk, let them. If they want to feel high and mighty because they no longer post here, let them feel that way if it makes them happy.

Maybe one reason they don't engage in something here is that GAFs most active thread is a thread were ERA users are called cowards and retards? This thread is like someone talking shit about their ex girl/boyfriend all the time.

I agree on the news and OTs, but not the conference threads. The conference threads there are a complete clusterfuck. The move way too fucking fast, and it's not 'quality', it's just quantity. Just a neverending ream of one line (or one word) hot takes. Conference threads here are much better because a discussion can actually happen. It's not really possible over there due to the sheer volume of low quality throwaway posts constantly streaming in.

News and OT I can see, to a degree. Though the OT for certain communities (such as the Easy Allies OT on Era) are pretty awful as they are full of the same self-righteous, authoritarian, and hostile groups that would throw hissy fits over talks of certain games. News threads are plentiful, but as prag16 had mentioned with reference to Conference threads, they are horrid for actual discussion. As there are rather substantial view points that are "banned/taboo" from any discussions, it leads to a lot of one-sided, boring repeats less you get banned/warned. I also echo the previous description of the Conference threads proper.

Quantity != Quality. The former is found in spades on Era. The latter is almost completely missing, outside of a handful of threads.
 
Era is the most toxic community I have ever seen. Their mods are even worse hypocrits than the ones that used to be here. Their stances on LGBT are more damaging to themselves than stupid jokes, they are worse than vegans. Fuck that "community" that is nothing but a mob echo chamber. When 4Chan feels like the sensible ones, you screwed up big time.

Even Bernie Sanders is not considered progressive enough for them.

The 2016 election gave rise to a new strain of leftism. Literally all they care and talk about all the time is identity politics. Liberalism prior to that was always more nuance and about helping everyone.

But now everything has to be about gender/race/LGBT first, or "you support nazism/white supremacy!".

I'd probably say they've gone beyond left/ right politics and stepped into cult like mentality.
I think people have seen plenty of odd behaviour on forums over the many years. But most of it can usually boil down to "it's a laugh. You either get it or you don't".

These guys are setting up the internet equivalent of Jonestown.
A good amount are sad acts but there a few who or have flipped the lid and on a one way ticket to batshit vill.

I was a fairly frequent poster there in the beginning. I got excited when I actually could register and make posts, because I never got approved here on GAF (until after the crazy shit went down). However, when the Battlefield V reveal trailer dropped and the moderators edited the OP to say something along the lines of, "Opinions stating that women or minorities look out of place in a historical representation of WWII will not be allowed," I requested a self-ban. I had voiced a few concerns about the goofy looking cosmetic options and others did as well. We were called misogynistic and compared to bigots. I wasn't even against the inclusion of women or minorities, and was only discussing the way the armor and such looked. The whole forum genuinely dog piles anyone with a different view point. Differing views on any social issues are seen as racism or bigotry. It's honestly depressing sometimes to go to the website.
 
The moderation and "staff" I don't know what you call them. Cronies? Are the most authoritarian people on any form I have seen. It's peak levels of irony. I hope that place never shuts down, It provides me with such entertainment. If anyone wants to know what the "alt left" is just go take a look. But don't say anything. Christ don't even look too long. Its like the Eye Of Sauron is watching you.
