Jim Sterling's hilarious review of Crackdown 3

You gotta watch this. Jimquisition's review of this game had me cracking up. Wth went wrong with this game!? It just looks so bad in his video.

Had some good comments on the state of Xbox first-party towards the end of the video too.

I'd call it more of a first impressions video than a full-on review, but it's arguably enough of an impression to amount to a review...

I mentioned it in an earlier Crackdown thread, but this game reflects a seemingly fundamental mediocrity in Microsoft's exclusives. Yeah, you have Crackdown 3 and ReCore, but who gives a damn? It's as if the company is more interested in the quantity of exclusives than whether or not they're good enough to be system-sellers, and that's what really matters.

i thought the city looked good, love the neon lights everywhere. but ya its crackdown a game with a subtier premise and story.

I found the city looks on the same level than old-gen GTA cities.

In fact Sand Andreas is more detailed than Crackdown 3's city.

I really enjoy Jims stuff and his sense of humor, even though I don't share any of his political views... I believe his content really shows that someone with even strong political views can produce content for everyone.

I know people are enjoying the game but you can like a game and still acknowledge that it is kinda dated etc.

What political views?

He's great, doesn't pull punches when things stink and praises stuff that deserves it, don't see why anyone would not like him.
Because he's a physically repulsive, hyperbolic outrage merchant with an annoying voice and an obnoxious personality?

Constantly complaining about things doesn't make someone cool or outspoken. It just makes them annoying and dull.

Agreed. Sterling is a slop. Can't take him seriously.

Dude...ad hominem argument won't convince anyone of your POV.
An ad hominem is when you insult the character of the person making an argument, or persons related to the argument, in order to discredit their point, instead of tackling the topic at hand.

An ad hominem is not pointing out the reason why you don't like the individual when the very topic of the argument is about why you don't like them. And his appearance is part of the reason why.

Why isn´t this in the Review thread? Why does this deserve it´s own thread? It´s starting to get real annoying with all these Crackdown-threads. We know the game sucks balls, how much more proof do you need?

You don't know what it means. You are attacking his character by implying because he's fat he doesn't deserve an opinion? You also said he has an 'obnoxious personality' and all for what, because he doesn't like this shit game? Some hill to die on.

That is the very definition of the phrase because you've posted it in a thread about his views on your favourite game, the thread is not about his character is it, you brought that in here.

To be honest, Jim's God awful Americanisms had me "cracking up" more than his thoughts.

Two thousand seeaavahn.

Its two thousand and seven, Jim, you mess.

No, you said you "don't see why anyone would not like him", not his opinions. He was addressing your post, not the thread.

Please point out to me where I said that he doesn't deserve an opinion.

You also said he has an 'obnoxious personality' and all for what, because he doesn't like this shit game? Some hill to die on.

Please point out to be where I said I think this because of his opinion of Crackdown. I didn't make the statement because he doesn't like Crackdown 3. I made the statement because it's what I think of him.

Literally all I did was explain why some people don't like his content. The fact that he's physically repulsive is only one of those reasons.

That is the very definition of the phrase because you've posted it in a thread about his views on your favourite game,

...huh? What? My "favourite game"? I think Crackdown 3 is absolutely awful.

he thread is not about his character is it, you brought that in here.

No sir. That was you. You brought up your opinion of his personality, responding to someone stated that they didn't like his work and why they don't "need" to watch his stuff. I responded to you statements that you "don't see why anyone would not like him" with an explanation as to what.

Practise what you preach. Just because your opinion isn't a critical one doesn't make it any more valid or worthwhile. Your entire argument towards me is ad hominems. Stick to discussing Jim, please.

wow, come on...we're no ERA, but you guys should calm down a little. The video has nothing different that several media outlets already pointed out. So, forget the person and talk about the video...just saying.

Okay. Sure.

His point about how bad the game is valid, but the way he presents it is horrible not fun to watch.

One person will release a video and then 20 others will regurgitate the same shit. They're all hacks

This game.

Forgetting Sterling, just watching that video without commentary tells you everything you need to know about the current state of Xbox exclusives. I hope this generation is just a one-off and we get back to three legitimate players in the console race next generation.

This is just another one of Jim's zero effort lazy diatribes that he usually saves for MS exclusives. It's not well done, clever or funny. It's basically him showing footage while he spews his random thoughts, a shotgun blast of loose assertions that really fail to clearly define the game. But I care enough to take the time to explain my issue with two points.

1. "The game is such a confusing nightmare to try and navigate" WTF? Moving and navigation is a develop-able skill not only with leveling but also handling the controls as a player. It's fucking rewarding as hell and fun to bound around from location to location. Shame Jim can't be bothered to get gud.

2. The game is dated. This seems to be the cornerstone of most of the arguments leveled at the game. I would say the same criticisms were leveled at CD1, the graphics were dated even then. I felt that way as well but ended up loving the game. So now seeing these complaints leveled again ad nauseum in just this video alone it's a bit shit. The so called dated aspect is the game's main appeal. I didn't see him questioning the lack of story or cut scenes in the Mario game as he was wanking over it. Yet here he is leveling it as a serious complaint when those things are not in line with what the game is trying to do. Also what does he mean by not being modern enough? Lack of bloated tasks lists and tacked on RPG leveling? Maybe they should have included microtransactions or in game currency? Or, make the graphics more real so they need to scale back the amount of enemies or draw distance you have.

It's just pain fucking weird to see the gaming media who drools over so many things retro try to sink a game for not being "new" enough.

Seems like a regular Jimpressions video. Not sure this needed its own thread.
Also calling it a review is a bit of stretch. He actually started doing these because he didn't want to make reviews anymore

.

He makes a jimpression video for most big or notable releases (more recently for Metro Exodus, Apex Legends, RE2 Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, Travis Strikes again, etc) and it's always just clips of random gameplay and him "spewing" his random thoughts about the game
You don't have to like the format but it's not some agenda driven anti-Microsoft thing

some one needs to post a pic of san andreas

You can't make people see things they dont want to.

I'm not saying the format is anti MS, just the content. But your kidding yourself if you think he doesn't have a bias against them and for Sony.

Did you say that about all the similar Zelda Botw threads? I am just curious. Multiple, similar threads are common and I've known to bypass them easily enough. BTW I mentioned botw because it was the opposite there were dozens of similar threads praising it in the same way.

Some pathetic posters in this thread. Game reviewer criticises a game that by general consensus is a massive turd, so they throw their toys out the pram and call the reviewer fat and ugly because they can't take it?! Oh dear.

This animosity should be thrown at MS for promising this game for YEARS, but oh no, let's attack someone that doesn't like it! Gold.

Watching some of these videos, game looks generic, but not 50/100 bad. The game is getting scores more accustomed to Big Rigs Racing.

Problem is I think some people expect more from a super delayed game and that it's a $60 budget game. If this was an indie game at $19.99, I'm sure it would have gotten decent scores.

The Crackdown gameplay formula doesn't hold well in modern days. Yes, there's some open world games out there where you can do some crazy stuff, but the neon cartoony look isn't the kind of visuals gamers care about now so much anymore. Ya, I know someone is going to bring up Fortnite. But that's a F2P game that caught on. If that was $60, it wouldn't even crack top 10 sales lists.

People typically want their shooters to be modern-ish. That's why a lot of the sci-fi games that dominated decade or two ago disappeared.

A counter.

Still can't figure out what people were expecting? It's like people wanted CD3 to not be a Crackdown game...which, by the way is this:

I keep seeing videos of people playing it while reviewing it...and frankly, these people suck at games. Watching Jim here, when he is jumping up into an overhang or a catwalk and repeatedly bumping his head and blaming the game? I have an idea Jim...
