What do you pay for auto insurance?

This topic came up with a friend who lives in another state (MI) and I was blown away at his rates. I pay 72 bucks a month (so 864 a year) for full coverage, 2 cars, 2 drivers (OH). My cars are paid off and from 2010 and 2012 model years.

My buddy told me he was paying around 400 and I said "oh that's not bad at all for a half-year" and he told me "no that's per month but my adult step-daughter is on the coverage". So while that could add a bit I was still blown away at that fucking bill.

What's it run in your state and circumstance?

Whats your liability coverage?
I pay 230 a month for full coverage. $500 deductible, $3 million liability coverage, one car and one driver. That's considered a cheap rate here (Vancouver).

I pay a 100 bucks a month for 2 cars and a house. (actually the house is part of my house payment so just two cars)

I pay $50 a month (300 for 6 months) for just liability (I think $50,000?). I've got a very old truck and am in MO..

I didn't exactly have an accident, but it rolled backwards out of a parking spot and hit an SUV a couple years ago. Didn't hurt my truck, but messed up the SUV because apparently they don't have back bumpers

$2100 a year for 2 2019 Rav 4 Hybrid Limites. So basically 90 a month for perfect full coverage, $250 deductibles and an umbrella. We live in Dallas.

No accidents ever, married, over the age of 25.

One of my coworkers pays over $400 a month in car insurance :(

ÂŁ40 ish a month, fully comp (Long no claims bonus). Plus ÂŁ250 excess

Just switched cars and was surprised that my new car didn't go up more, even being a semi sensible 'family' car

MI has some really fucked up state rules and regulations regarding auto insurance. Makes it very difficult to underwrite accurately so the result is that everybody ends up getting charged up the ass.

Too fucking much.
Unlikely. The profit margins built into auto insurance rates are incredibly slim, generally only a couple of percentage points. The industry is very tightly regulated at the state level. The more likely case is that you're not as good of a risk as you think you are (i.e. more probable to incur a loss for your insurer than you realize). If you disagree, try getting some quotes from different insurers. It's possible that you could be mispriced (overpriced) by your insurer, but if you have a handful of quotes all telling you the same thing, then it's safe to say the pricing is accurate.

Insurance is pretty expensive in my zipcode--lots of accidents on the interstates, fair amount of car thefts and break ins (not near our house, but some areas closeby).

I dropped down to just liability last year as my 2008 Mazda 3 isn't worth enough to justify full coverage anymore. I'm paying 443 for six months currently for a tad above state minimums. IT was 800 something for full coverage before (would probably be in the high 600s with our current company and having home owners insurance as my wife's is like $685 for full coverage on her 2013 Hyundai Veloster.

6 month premium is $224.14 with $500,000 per person/$1m per occurence body injury liability, 500k property damage. Geico in Virginia.

Pretty sure I'm maxed out on all possible discounts. Never had a reported accident, only one speeding ticket in my life.
