Speaking of politics, I remember putting in my vote in Discord that politics would be split into its own board when R.E. was first starting up. They, passionate about the embedding of political discussion (apparently, now, standardization) into all things, chose to simply mirror the 4-board model of GAF and now you can't escape it. I can only imagine how next year will be when people are posting threads in Gaming like "How much more miserable will you[r gaming experiences] be after another four years of Trump in the White House?" Or "Now that [Democrat] is President, how will games be wonderfully affected and cured of all hateful messages, like characters with different worldviews??"
And of course the general angst of everyone dreading skyfall when someone they don't want gets a position that doesn't have enough power to ruin their world even if they used all ten permitted years in the position to try. Take a deep breath, everyone.
My advice to everyone, including R.E. staff: EVERYONE is "problematic," even you. Everyone has biases. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. Chastise others all you want, but no one is faultless in this world. If you dig deep down, you'll know that which you think and do that you're not proud of.
And honestly, I think we need to stop elevating others on an emotional level. Actors, voice actors, creators, artists, musicians, writers...we are all just people. Flawed. Struggling. Neither idols to be worshipped, nor villains to be deplatformed. Businesses are no different. Whatever you define as "EA" is no more or less righteous than "Nintendo" or "Sony." Its all about profits, and making interactive things people enjoy. We simply buy the ones we like and don't buy the kinds we don't. Discussion doesn't need to be so venomous, or corrective.
Obviously we are all biased by our favorite games of both now and then. And I speak with confidence that "problematic" people were instrumental in all of them. Just because you dont know about people's skeletons and opinions, doesn't mean they do not have them. You can't avoid everything you dont like, or people who feel/say/think things you don't like. Even a naked monk with only a handmade broom and a bowl must rely on others to subsist.
Be thoughtful. Be mindful. We all need to stop being so exclusionary. We are one human race, so let's all try to show it. With some positivity and some optimism.
