Man, I genuinely feel shitty about this whole PT situation. I was the one that initially brought the post up and now I feel like I took a page out of ResetEra's playbook and started a dog pile on someone. Even if I don't condone his initial post, I should have brought up with him first rather than let my anger guide my hand.
 
Ive been working since I was 14. Most of my jobs have had some type of direct contact with customers the general public.

Thats 26 years of service. Over this time I have made mistakes and done my best to make good on them.

I don't want to fight. He gave the phone back. We walked back together. I shook his hand and gave him like a side hug thing. I dunno why. We went our separate ways. I didn't want to get cops involved.

More or less exact same thing happened to me in Atl over a year ago, some guy tried to rob me, had my wallet, but was clearly improvising and got trapped trying to get away. Ended up giving it back. Probably a dumb kid who made a dumb decision. I still called the cops and told them yeah a young black man he was wearing a hoodie. They got the security cam footage and ended up busting him trying something similar across town. But yeah if you at Dragoncon there are cops everywhere wouldn't be hard to flag one down

Nope not me. No way would I chance chasing someone down over something as trivial as my phone. I have no way of knowing whether or not the person is armed or if he has accomplices nearby and I am not gonna potentially throw my life away for $300.

Why is this necessary? No need to "cancel back" these ideologues. Let them have their hugbox game sites and propaganda chambers. Outing them for the sin of -- essentially -- being an insensitive asshole isn't a reason to churn up the mob.

IMO is necessary because turn out to be not just a 'single member' or just a 'troll internet', but someone known/popular using his account to promove hate. I agree with you about double standart shaming, but its important to show those guys, at least a point of seeing their behavior.
Just think, if you its not 'you', but a high top IGN editor/chief, doing that or promoving your own site secretly for the price of not being charged for anything. Must like our old friend astroturfing .

I'm all for calling out specific behaviors and specific instances of hypocrisy, but it just feels like at some point there's gonna be a cancel-cancel culture employing many of the same techniques. Social media and the behavior it engenders is fatally flawed. Outrage mobs should be discouraged, even when they are pointed at "deserving" targets.

The problem with "cancelling" people who are integrated enough into social media for it to hurt them is that it will cause harm. For those people, it would be like ripping away heroin. I watched a video today posted by a GAFer about how social media usage is conditioning people to be psychotic to one another. They're all self-wounding users of this drug, and they know exactly how to hurt one another. It follows the same pattern as hardcore drug abusers.
