Life is Strange 2 Episode 5 or this is what people mean when they do not want politics in their games

Really? I didn't know that, if they expand on some of the ideas and mechanics of The Council the game will be dope.
Yep.

Sure they are, lol.

It's a good opportunity to provide something that most of the thread hasn't seen, though.

Bonus Jackspedicey eye roll.

So is this the part where we pretend that isn't a Trump slogan, or a major part of the political identity for him and his supporters?

Wow. I love this game now.

They should REALLY go all in though. This is too subtle! :)

Is it an agenda or merely a group of writers telling a story that triggers you for whatever personal reason? I ask because I see over reactions to benign games from both the left and right like this all of the time.
Yeah i think also Schindler's list have triggered lot of neo nazists :D
Only right Wing stories allowed

Left Wing lores? Burn with Fire

So...why not both?

Just here to shill a AA narritave/adventure game that a lot of people should support instead.

A great occult story set in the late 18th century with Light RPG elements and historical characters like George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte.
It's really great and you can find the 1st episode for around 2$ on PSN and i'm gussing Steam and Xbox live.
I would have bought it in an heartbeat... sadly even on the retail version you still have to download the last episode

Well welcome to every episodic game released this gen, you just have to except the fact everything will be digital sooner or later.
Everything being digital doesn't exclude the fact that you own an incomplete copy, (literally) out of the box.
I understand it's an anti-resale strategy, but that's also an anti-consumer one.

Ironically, the same happened between Life Is Strange 1 and Before The storm (both complete on disc) and LiS2, with the last episode to download.
They still have to print every copy, why don't wait 1 month and print the full version? Now it will be forever incomplete. I'll never understand.

If you want to be extra depressed go watch the Life Is Strange 1 developer commentary. You'll hear the two directors talk about writing conservative and religious characters specifically to subvert stereotypes about them. Challenging negative preconceptions. They were making a diverse game and their diversity encompassed thought as well. David Madsen even slaps his step child in one (potential) scene and is still given a nuanced redemption arc and portrayed as a multidimensional human.

But that was 2015, and a lot of political polarization ago. Smash cut to current year and we have Life Is Strange 2 which offers nothing but the most obvious stereotypes and the nuance of a stereotypical woke blog post.

And even worse than that... it's just plain boring most of the time.

As a huge fan of the original game I can safely say LiS 2 is one of the most dissapointing sequels I've ever played.

I don't see what the big deal is. They're just ripping down a portion of the border wall that's probably been there for a long time. Trump has barely built any new actual wall and besides, why deify this fraudster or any politician? It's silly. Just enjoy the video game without digging around looking for offense like some blue-haired ResetEra member playing the latest game.

From a narrative perspective, there's plenty of places they can waltz across the border - even legally and encouraged during certain hours in some cities. No need for these dramatics unless it is required for some reason.

This seems to be the new defense for any criticism.

"you sound like the other side of the coin"

Not directed at you bdburger, I don't know you from Adam 🤷‍♂️

Everyone laughed at the "PEOPLE LIKE YEW ARE WHY WEE NEED DIS WAAAALL" line in Episode 1. Now howdja like it.

Lol. Damn, first one was really good despite average writing and mixed vocal talent, one of my favourite games of all really. Finished episode 1 was like lol nah, boring plot, really bad writing and bad voiceovers, amongst un-interesting plot and characters. The start of the first one when you walk out the classroom with the music - so good - I love the world building and goofy characters.

haha yeah bro just stop having an opinion lmao. play the game with the mexicans wanting more coming in the country illegally haha. fuck illegal aliens btw.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and wait for it be released to see how it's handled. Isn't the whole story about two brothers who ran away from home trying to travel down the west coast to Mexico to be with relatives while evading the law and the younger brother discovering he has some kind of super powers? Doesn't seem all that far fetched that they would run into a wall at the border and the kid uses his powers to overcome the obstacle.

Exactly the same. From the first episode in season 2 and I knew where this was going. I wasn't wrong at the end

This is The Last Jedi of Life is Strange, just somehow worse.

I love the original, so, so much, and as many people have pointed out, it's hard to believe it's even the same developer.

It's like they suddenly turned into one of those pricks that wants to get accepted by this targeted community. That's how it felt to me at least

I knew Dotnod were pretty political in their games but I didn't think it was this on the nose. Whoever said that politics of this nature were going to get worse in games, they were right.

I got to meet those Dontnod guys and attended some sort of post-mortem in Paris back when the first game was released. Liked Remember Me a lot and thought LiS was quite interesting to say the least.

But this...

no

Recently I started watching the game till episode 4 as I know the game is finally about to be finished, this is a pretty bad game so far. Politically speaking, I think the main point of this game is to show people illegals are just as selfish like every other human being so we shouldn't sympathize them being deported at all. Dontnod just wanna show it in a more subtle way, they want you to feel indifferent about the main characters. I think these devs are mostly moderates.

Not really surprising, Dontnod has been injecting politics into their games for years. Remember how Vampyr strong arms you into murdering a blatant Trump metaphor?

Does it? Bugger. I was hoping to pick it up in a sale as I liked LIS 1 and figured Vampyr might be worth a crack. Clearly not.

That's exactly it, yes, people simply don't like seeing the opinions they don't like but are all about seeing those they do like and lament there's not more of it even if there's plenty of it to go around, lol.

I disagree. I wouldn't want to play a game set hundreds of years ago where i had to kill a Bernie Sanders metaphor either. I'm sure there are plenty of people on the left who feels the same about a Trump metaphor. It's moronic, preachy and completely out of place

If it's relevant to the setting or for historical accuracy, i don't care at all. I do care when developers misrepresent historic events to push an agenda though. That kinda shit should mean a hard pass for anybody who cares about integrity, no matter what side of fence you're on

A couple of people have mentioned the game to me and the more I see of it the more tempted I am.

Instantly more relevant to my interests than bloodlines 2.
Dare I ask why? Considering that Bloodlines 2 is the main thing on the menu for PDX. Swansong and Coteries of New York (which comes out 12th this month, I believe) are more of a side projects for them.

This is a company who announced a new game - and the first thing they tell you about it, the most important point to get across in that 3-minute interview slot, is that the main character identifies as genderfluid.

Bloodlines 2 has an ex-RockPaperShotgun writer on board and is showing signs of going full woke.

I really don't see the issue with either game and the "politics" they chose to show with their characters and storylines... Maybe the delivery is all hammy, but nothing is jumping out to me in those screenshots as being over the line... Is every white person the kids meet a racist caricature or something?

The post is in relation to the one I made previously. In LiS 1 the developers portrayed people of various ideological backgrounds as multidimensional humans, intentionally so as they explain in the developer commentary. In LiS 2 all conservatives are 1 dimensional stereotypes of racists, ignorant hicks or both.

You can write an explicitly political story but if you approach complex subject matter with the depth and nuance of a woke twitter stereotype, you're bound to fail. Life is Strange 1 managed to do social commentary without turning entire groups of people into ghoulish caricatures. Life is Strange 2 fails in that regard.

Why date your game like this? That's the biggest problem I have with any media that gets politically specific like this.

This 100%

I was talking to my roommate a few months ago about how I was watching some Seinfeld and Cheers and noticed how well those shows have held up. The main reason they've held up are because of great writing/characters, but what I noticed is the complete lack of topical stuff in those two shows.

On the other end of the spectrum you have something like South Park which I think will age pretty badly (other than the first couple seasons) when watched by future generations.

As for the LiS2 stuff. Ya it's a bit goofy. I really liked the first game a lot and Before the Storm was better than I expected, but ya, I probably won't get this until it's discounted heavily, or maybe not.

Just finished the last episode... And yeah, all the references related to Trump and immigrants are there.
But to be honest, it's really not that bad in terms of references to the Wall or Trump. I was more bothered about something else...

There comes a point where Daniel the little 10 year old brother says that he saw two dudes making out and he thought it was weird. You can respond that it is completely normal, that you don't care, or that he's a stalker, and you do not have the option to flat out agree with him. Now THAT bothers me. I'm more bothered by that than by the whole wall thing and racism stuff. Particularly because in the end you don't get to pass the wall without consequences. If this game is really anti-Trump, it really makes a good job of making him look successful.

Ugh, Tell Me Why is going to be insufferable, isn't it?

I can already see the ending... it's just a black screen with white text: "TRANS RIGHTS", and the Kotakus and Polygons of the world will make it their agenda to prop up the game as often as possible while the rest of the gaming community ignores it.

So I'm a tad bit confused. In your own comment you yourself admit most of the gaming community while just ignore it, while people who care will have something they consider important featured in a video game series they like. So even in a hypothetical scenario you can't come up with why this should matter to any of us who don't really care?

Just finished episode 5 and lol this season is worthless. 1st half of the episode is just meandering filler with another group of characters that are gone just as fast as they're introduced. 2nd half is eventful and full of stupid moments made even stupider by me picking those most ridiculous options since I just didn't care. The story basically just ends (at least in the ending I got, there are 4 iirc) there's really nothing special or surprising about the final episode.
