This Place Pretty Cozy Now

The slower pace that has been getting busier as time goes by has been nice. I can read through a thread and recognize a lot of the posters now. The old forum moved so fast I didn't really know or recognize most people.
 
This place is far better. I admittedly spent more time on ERA due to the activity, but maintained the same (and increasing) frustration I had before the "Great Tantrum" here. I recently caught a ban there for attempting to have a logical exchange with someone and it's was clear their mod staff was only interested in thickening the walls on the echo chamber. it was then I realized it wasn't a place for me. Once my ban is lifted, I'll happily close my account there for good. Let them eat each other alive for all I care. It's refreshing to see the discussion that occurs here, tbh. It reminds me more of my old days on message boards. Folks shouldn't have to dance around particular language for fear of unfair retribution.

I appreciate you all making this place fun to visit again.

When the big sigma happened, I created an account on REE just to keep my name.
I posted like 2 very innocuous comments. I was blasted with "SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT LITERALLY HITLER".
I stopped commenting there. Eventually I stopped visiting.

All I can say about GAF now is that it has a sense of humor and I like that. I just want to play game, comment about said games/the vidya industry and have a good time.

I can do that here.

Oh and the memes.

This is such a cool place now. One of last places where You can have a proper opinion and not be subdued by mindless cancel culture idiots.
Hell, I got banned from giantbomb for chatting "wrong things" during live stream and when I came here afterwards and not only I've been super warmly welcomed but also many people have the same opinions! It's great

I couldn't agree more! The team has done an awesome job and even the most heated debates feel dialed down so many notches to what it was before.

We still have a way to go but the incremental rebounds have been noticeable and organic.

It does feel like a mid 2000s forum, Gaf was at its best back then.

I love the fact that everyone can express themselves freely while the REAL homophobes/racists/whatever are singled out. It was just pure insanity what that mess had become.

Could not agree more. This is a place where you are free to speak your mind without fear of a dogpile or an outright ban. The moderators now have a keen eye for purely troll or bullshit posts, and are calling balls and strikes to keep things without the realm of civil discourse.

Its a great place now.
 
I've heard of 'the purge' and I almost understand (kind of) that some bad stuff went down here a few years ago, but that was before I joined and I have to say that this is actually a really cool place to just talk about games and other niche stuff. I don't know anybody in real life who is even remotely interested in games or nerd shit, and I don't use social media so this is a bit of a haven for me!
