Say what you will about Kevin Costner not having a British accent, but I watched Prince of Thieves again for the first time in ages about a year ago, and thought it still just held up really well as a good movie in general.

Errol Flynn is the iconic Robin Hood. You think of the character, his image comes to mind.
 
The Disney one was the my earliest introduction. Though I must admit and hate to say it due to accent or lack of British one. Kevin Costner.
 
The newest robin hood tv show was corny and could have done without all the mystic muslim ( every muslin has to be good and has secret mystic knowledge) nonsense that seems mandatory in every robin hood now but the robin hood was brash and full of himself which was great and the characters were fun..and marianne was a babe.

I regularly find myself in the shower singing the men in tights theme. But I have a personal hardon for Kevin Costner, I love everything he's in so he'd be my choice. Plus you've got the jamming tones of Bryan Adams.
 
Men in Tights is so good. Cheesy as heck but so good.

I really like that one Dr Who with the previous Doctor where he meets Robin Hood and is all "why are you so merry? what's wrong with you?" thought that was a funny take
 
Russel Crow Robin Hood is like the Christian Bale Batman

Lacking something, some faults, but still enjoyable for what it is.

Probably the old movie with Errol Flynn. Back then, they really shot arrows into people. Into padding, but still, actual archers shooting actual people with actual arrows.

I am partial to Robin of Sherwood



It's very 80s, but neat. It's also the source of there being a Moor among the merry man. He was originally a villain in the pilot, but his character was so cool, he got written into the show.

The English didn't have a British accent then. Not until relatively recently.

Americans talk the way the English did, it's just we kept talking that way, while their accent changed due to influence from Europe.
 
I always liked the Kevin Costner movie. It was strange that he was basically an American dude in the UK but it was a fun movie.

You do know the English have a huge variety of accents right?

I fully grant you that they would have shared those accents originally, but both lots of people would have naturally drifted away from one another due to isolation.

Infact I'd say it's far more likely Americans would have diverged more sharply over the centuries due to the artificial mixing of regional accents from emigration, as well as mixing with natives, french and Spanish colonists.

I mean America isn't the only former British colony nation, and there's no confusing their accent with those of Canadians, Australians, and New Zealanders, all of whom also sound a bit like but distinctly different from English accents too.

Also how much influence do you think mainland Europeans would have had exactly? Up until the 1980's 99.9% of Britains would have never met a mainlander in the life unless they were at war with them. Hell, I'd say India and China would have had a bigger effect on British accents due to the Empire than Europeans would have.
