source. While I would take any numbers with a grain of salt, I do know that the RT cores is the main driver for the price. They are also worried about the price putting them in trouble if they don't make sales. I don't have any specs on the hardware at all. This is the same source that said PS5 is in the 1080 performance ballpark.

You can't ignore what people hear. That's grossly unfair. Our contacts do indeed work in the industry. They may not work at the actual companies but they hear things. They talk. If what they say changes, so what? Don't ever try to gamble on what one of us says when we aren't actually working at these companies. Some of us might get an accurate rumor. Some of us might not. My friend called me when I spoke about the certain original IPs. He didn't realize it got leaked.

we dont know how expensive their super-duper ssd solution is
im still not convinced that we need a ssd which is twice as fast as the ssd in the xbox.
If anything, it will only bring a real advantage in exclusive games.
In my opinion a "normal" ssd would have done it too.
I would have preferred to put the budget into more CPU or GPU performance

How could your source know the price of the PS5 this far out from launch? The individual would have to be high up in the Playstation ranks to have access to this kind of information?

Very disappointing they are throwing away die space on RT at this point. Was really hoping MS would use the straight up hybrid method and wait for the mid generation refreshes for acceleration. Giving up several TF of power for limited effects is just not appealing to me. In a few years when they figure out how to do it better that be fine. But good to know s head of time to be disappointed with sub 10tf consoles for RT yippy.

The kind of hardware that's in it, that's how. I spoke about $300.. "there is no way Sony is going to put RT cores in a console that's only $300." So I am assuming that this 4Chan has a LOT of information that's true. So take your pick.. It's gotta be at least $400.. $499 seems more likely

It is possible that I am the only one who thinks like that but to me a machine of 9 TFLOPS for 500 euros seems expensive to me, and as for the power they seemed great to me 9TFLOPS if everything went to 1080p but to move 4k knowing that according to Cerny to move the PS4 to 4k games are needed 8TFLOPS .... well sincerely it seems to me that it falls short.

I think it's valuable that at the end of all of this, everyone has a understanding on the good sources and the bad sources. I have no idea how it will pan out, and I don't think it reflects on you, Osiris, Klee etc, personally. It doesn't mean ignore that person outright.
However I do think if it turns out you (or anyone else) is way off the mark, then it's clear that the sources are bad and not to be trusted.

a 9TF gpu from AMD is the highest end consumer RDNA card they have
and that thing alone is more than $350
that is with no Raytracing hardware.
then there's the SSD, the RAM, the Zen2 CPU and materials for the case and controller.

So after you said that your source confirmed the price of PS5 at $499 is 100% correct (as per another so called leak) you then back out and assume its going to be $499 ?

When asking about each of these leaks, the number of "confirmed" was too great. This guy 4Chan has some damn good sources. I believe the price. I may not believe the dates and shit like that change all the time, but the meat of the information is in the power comparisons and the games. Period. Everything else is fluff..

Yes to me i couldn't give a rats ass about the price, you're right. I will buy whatever the hell Sony or MS set their prices at.
My issue is knowing this information this far out from launch including the launch titles. Someone very high up in Sony is likely leaking this stuff to your source as i'm sure this information is not easy to get to. So to me this raises red flags. There were 'leaks' last year that claimed prices on these consoles and launch lineups too.
Maybe someone in the know on the forum can explain how these things work but i'm sorry being able to disclose launch price and titles has to be BS.

How much percentage of the silicon do you estimate the RT cores have on next-gen? Isn't it about 7-10% on Turing? Also, thank you for the information.

But why would you believe that it took "4 months to do the math", when 6*2 is 12.
They spent 4 months crunching numbers and tests to find out that 2X the power is what they got. With 12, it would not only be more than 2X, but not need testing to do simple arithmetic.
Testing was done due to efficiency gains with RDNA and not direct 2X flop for flop measurement.
It's just all PR ambiguity.
