Are all regular concert-goers partially deaf?

I ask because last night I forgot my ear protection, was on supervision/guard duty in a venue with some live music. Just 4 measly hours in that place and one of my ears was blasted. Luckily my other one received some protection from the radio earpiece. 24 hours later I'm still suffering from pain and ringing, thankfully it is subsiding. Temporary tinnitus. But if I go through such an experience again I fear my hearing would be destroyed.

There were ~200 people in there, many of them regulars. They must be so deaf by now they can't feel the pain anymore.

So, what the fuck is up with zoomers and their shitty loud music. *shakes fist at cloud*

I use earplugs every time. If I've ever forgotten it I just stuffed my ears with napkins. People who dont do anything definitely have hearing loss.

Well I have tinnitus before, but I wear this:

And I am fine since then.

Wadded up wet toilet paper as earplugs in an emergency, my friend.

Never, ever subject yourself to loud volumes for any reason.

I don't go to concerts much any more but I used to a lot in my teenage years. Also, i had played in various bands. I love loud music and my ears sure have been damaged because of it.

Earplugs are a must, but I don't know if younger people think they are lame and prefer long term ear damage. I know people my age did back in the day.

Tinnitus. Still crazy people just don't carry their shooting earplugs with them.

I think so. I used to be in a lot of bands playing guitar and drums. Now I get tinnitus from time to time.

if u can find some ear plugs don't be afraid to use them

Been to a lot of concerts that left my ears ringing for days but nothing decrimented my hearing until kids. Their shrill cries cost me high pitched hearing in my left ear (I hold them in that side).

The wife's nagging cost me mid range hearing on the right side (I always drive) :p

Every concert is different. Mostly I've never needed ear protection but I take it each time in case. Beach House in Vancouver was the last concert I was at, and I was glad I had those little squishy boys to put in my ears because the mix for the venue was just way too fucking loud.

I spent most of my late teens/early 20's going to metal concerts without hearing protection. My ears would be ringing for the rest of the night. Bad form. These days I always wear over-the-ear headphones when I'm at a concert. Similar to what you'd wear at a shooting range. It muffles those high frequencies coming off the cymbals and guitars, and actually gives the band a warmer / deeper sound - I like it. I play drums, and I always wear my headphones while playing, make those toms sound sweet. Always wear hearing protection at concerts, it doesn't make you look like a dork, and it definitely makes the music sound better. I can get closer to the stage, too. But moshing is really difficult with bulky headphones on, and I'd be afraid some jerk would knock them off. It's a fair trade-off I guess.

Well 40 hours later and my right ear has almost stopped ringing. Almost. I have to sit in complete silence and put my finger in there to hear the now very subtle ring. Hopefully it is gone by tomorrow. Bullet dodged.

BTW NOBODY i saw was wearing protection, many people were even standing right next to the speakers. It gave me a false sense of security. Turns out young people are batshit stupid and probably already deaf.

I only go to a few concerts a year but the volume never bothered me. The partial deafness never lasted more than a few hours even at the most extreme concerts. I guess it affects some people more than others. I've never had tinnitus after a concert.

You are getting old OP, thats why you suffer like an old man :D
Went to a lot of concerts and music festivals in my life, never had any problem :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Wah wah young people. This is not a new trend. If anything it's getting more and more common to see people with earplugs because the information on why you should wear them (even though it's obvious information) is more readily available.

All I hear these days is a High Pitched

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Nonstop, all day everyday no joke. I always go front row, right of the stage near the Speaker Stacks at gigs, even back in Dec I couldn't help myself , this shit never stops, unless I use whitenoise or manage to really not concentrate on it, no b.s you're not pussy if you wear earplugs, Tinnitus sucks man.

No point acting Tough when your hearing is fucked, don't be a dumb Fuck like me.

I have seen Motörhead Live 3 times for starters, that should explain to you why my hearing is fucked as well as many other Metal bands, but well we all know Motörheads reputation when they were still around. Oh yeah Gojira the Drumming 2 years ago was like a pick axe in the brain, I think I had a head cold at the time.

As you can see it makes me grumpy lol, there's no cure for it.

38 years old for reference been going to many indoor gigs since my 20's, rarely outdoors where sound travels.

Only attended a single concert in my life and that was when the Prodigy's album hit in 2005. The opening acts weren't heavy metal, so it was surprising to see the band come out loud and tear my ears up.

i get tinnitis every so often, but not as much as my brother or dad. all of us are drummers haha. i only drum every so often tho.

drumming is the worst for your ears. guitar is less loud.

you can get ear plugs at many venues. i have done that, and the music is perfectly as enjoyable, since it is such a high volume. my brother had custom ear plugs made that fit the shape of his ears, which is something to consider, cos everyone has different ears.

I've been to hundreds of shows since I was 15. Mostly in small places with those giant stacks right in my face. I remember my ears ringing for a week after the first one. Each time, the ringing did not last as long. Now the ringing is gone the next day. My wife, a doctor, points out that this is because of permanent hearing loss I have suffered. Earplugs are a must.

I saw one band once, called Johnny Chainsaw, that brought a big bag of earplugs out and threw them to everybody. Then during their last big solo they threw like 30 cans of silly string into the crowd and whipped water balloons at everybody from on stage. Punk rock.

I've been to well over a hundred concerts, and have never worn any type of hearing protection.

I definitely have hearing-loss in some form.
I can still hear stuff just fine, but I misunderstand what people are saying. I hear them, but I don't understand them.

Somebody will say something like, "Hey, what courses did you take next semester?"
And I hear, "Hey, what horse is best for raking in the summer?"

It leads to some confusing conversations, to be sure.

I don't regret it, though. Those concerts were all fantastic.
But I'm also relatively young. We'll see how things play out over the next fifty years...

I've been to some indoor smaller concerts and open air concerts.

Soundgarden, a day to remember, highly suspect and some others in one night indoor. End of the night my ears we're buzzing hard. Made me research ear protection. Bought some of those ear plugs that pass through sound. Haven't gotten to use them yet since the next few were outdoors.

Metallica, Volbeat and Aveneged sevenfold outdoors was great and didn't bother my ears. Same with imagine dragons outdoors.

screw indoor concerts, great way to mess up your ears.
