Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’ Will Feature First ‘Beautiful’ On-Screen Gay Kiss, ‘Everyone Cried On Set’

What if the participants are blind, deaf and mute?
Group seppuku on set instead of crying?

Unfortunately I only have a casual understanding of this stuff, things I picked up attending church and playing Halo 3 online.

On the actual topic though...I guess this is one way to try and drum up public interest in an Eternals movie.

who gives a fuck about the eternals anyway?

Who gave a shit about Guardians of the Galaxy before the movie. As a comic reader I certainly didn't.

The kiss is whatever, it's 2020 brah's but the fact we are broadcasting like its a big deal is a bit annoying.

Wow [huge multinational corporation constantly using shady business practices] is so brave! I'm such a big fan now!

I'm surprised there isn't more people vocally sick of this sort of pandering. I just watched Dawson's Creek, a show from 20 years ago, and there's a big gay subplot with one of the characters, there's a few on screen gay kisses. One wonders how long this will continue to be stunning and brave and sold to us in our media as heroic. I've been seeing this for like 20 years and I've went from tolerant to mildly annoyed to when is this shit ever going to end? I guess it makes sense if I think about it though, when I was really young, it was cool to make fun of gays in movies (think Bill & Ted), then that moved into sort of a don't ask don't tell kind of tolerance (Seinfeld's not that there's anything wrong with that - very clearly these men do not like the concept of gayness - but want to be viewed as good liberals and non-haters so they play the game), to casual acceptance (Dawsons Creek, now you're watching gays makeout on teen dramas), to now they're showcasing in blockbuster movies and everyone is crying and clapping.

This is the entire article guys:

Marvel is making progress when it comes to LGBTQ representation.

The upcoming "The Eternals" will feature the first on-screen kiss between two men.

Brian Tyree Henry who plays Phastos, the first openly gay superhero in a Marvel movie, will share a kiss with Haaz Sleiman, who plays his husband.

"It's a beautiful, very moving kiss," Sleiman told NewNowNext. "Everyone cried on set. For me, it's very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be. Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it's important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point. We forget that because we're always depicted as sexual or rebellious; we forget to connect on that human part."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed that the first openly gay couple in the Marvel Universe would appear in "The Eternals".

"He's married, he's got a family, and that is just part of who he is," he said.

"The Eternals" is scheduled to hit theatres on Nov. 6.

No one is being called brave.. they are just pointing out it's the first openly gay character in a Marvel movie. If anything Marvel is being criticized as it's called "progress."

Which has little relevance on my life.. but why am I supposed to be annoyed? This is a story some people might care about, some might not.. it's literally 5 sentences and 2 quotes, this thread's reaction is hilarious.

No one asked you to be, and I didn't frame the OP as "isn't this outrageous?", it's framed as yet another woke corporate marketing move, which it 100% is. If this is a positive story for you, glad to hear it.

The big question is, is the character gay, or is the character a character who happens to be gay. The former is stupid pandering (like how Capital Marvel's defining trait is that she is a Whaman), and the latter just makes for an interesting character.
Exactly, I don't give a crap if the Eternal is gay but is he gay in the comics or did they make the character gay to pander and show how woke they are?
I have a feeling it's the later.

I didn't want to share this earlier and add fuel to the fire but he had a wife in the comics..when they took up human identities. Again I don't know if he was gay beyond their human identities. He was not an original Eternal and he really didn't have a huge role.

If you want to read a little about him.. here is an article.

Apparently Phastos, the character who is gay in the movie, doesn't have much backstory in the comics.

Edit: apparently Makkari, Sprite, and Ajak are gender swapped from male to female too. Wokey woke.

I've read most Eternal comics but never remember him being gay. No big deal if he is but not crazy about the idea of straying to far from the source material just to have bonus points with a community.

They took three of the major characters and gender swapped them. I think that's a "bigger deal" fwiw.

What's outrageous is people who will skip a movie with Gemma Chan as the lead character because two dudes might be holding hands in the background.

OH WOW ASIAN GIRL THAT ISN'T UGLY AS FUCK HOLY FUCK
I LOVE ANIME AND HAVEN'T TOUCHED A WOMAN IN YEARS NOW I NEED TO WASTE 2 HOURS OF MY TIME LOOKING AT HER ON A SCREEN IN A SHITTY MOVIE BECAUSE I HAVE YELLOW FEVER

Hasn't been that difficult for me at all, I can't stand capeshit really and they lost me with Star Wars after TLJ. I haven't even been tempted by anything.

yup, I actually haven't seen many movie in cinema lately.

The last 3 movies I saw are Endgame, Ford vs Ferrari, Terminator DF <-- this is the movie that made me say, ok I'm done with Hollywood

You forgot your sedatives again?

It's 2020.

Anyone still falling for Disney trying to fake gay shit needs to get a clue real fucking quick. (Even if as far as I know one of the two actors is gay. Not sure about the other one.)

On the internet LGBT reigns supreme but in real life normies who have no internet presence are the one who make the sales. If they don't wanna see it then it won't sell. Normies are starting to get tired of MCU shit anyway.

I am fine with that, gay people kissing each other in movies doesn't bother me, but I haven't been sold on this being an actual good movie yet.

Marketing won't start for Eternals until at least May, 6 months from release. This article isn't even marketing or PR.
It's just a gay website asking a gay man about their role in Eternals as a random side question.

Don't like capshit but looks for "negative" news about capshit just to get enraged.
Hmmm

You seem to care a great deal, considering you're in this thread whining that people aren't nice enough or whatever

Yeah honestly I'm not really sure why it matters anyway that the original article was gay people asking other gays about their gay scenes. Others picked it up and are championing it, a lot of sites are reporting the news from this interview. Context for a lot of people is - oh look more media farnsgoth hagging.
The usaul suspects are angry becuase you made a thread about a blockbuster movie that isn't gushing with praise. Next time kiss Disney's ass, make some sycophantic comments About the cast and/or crew and espouse about how so and so film will "change your life."

The way some of you picture anyone who doesn't share your views is hilarious lol. I pretty much only read a few forums and a couple news aggregators and do not "look for" anything to feel any sort of way. I enjoy hearing Gaf's take on things, and I share items that I come across that I feel people will engage with here. I'm not enraged about any of this shit in the slightest, quite the contrary in fact, I laugh more and more every day clown world antics.

#powerful
and just to add on, if they really want to have a same sex kiss in a Marvel movie, should have been cyclops having a wet dream about rogue and the white queen in diamond form, now that would have sold more tickets than those 2 ugly dudes....

LMAO So a few years ago at the school I worked for. We got a new principal. A large and in charge black woman. When she gave her 'introduction presentation' she played this song and said it was her favorite song and made her positive.....

She was fired less than a year later.

Every big Disney / Lucasfilm / Marvel movie gonna have that "gay kiss" mandatory.

'member the two women kiss at end of Rise of Skinwalker?

😳

What the fuck is an eternal? Marvel must be running out of popular franchises so they're really having to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
