FRONTLINE Doc on Jeff Bezos and his "Amazon Empire"

Someone tell Jeff Benzos to pack and ship bideo games better because I'm sick if getting loose discs in the case.

Amazon is a monopolistic corporation that was operating on huge loss for years to destroy the competition and then start slowly screwing consumers when it established the monopoly like it's starting to happen now. That was their entire business plan and it can't get any more evil than that as far as business practices go. Not to mention the way they treat their employees. Fuck Jeff Bezos.

There is a short interview in there with Shoshanna Zuboff, who has written a very interesting book: The Rise of Surveillance Capitalism.

Anyone remember when every new $60 video game purchase gave you 20 dollars in Amazon credit, then 10 dollars, and then nothing?

Or when Black Friday deals were actually huge deals? Now it's usually Chinese crap or popular products that you can find cheaper in other stores. And don't get me started on their disgusting surveillance trojan horses that are usually over-marketed gimmicks.

Well, we live in a survival of the fittest world, and whether by hook or by crook, the winners win and the rest fight for scraps. It's always been like this.

It's survival of the scummiest now, they don't even try to healthily compete with innovation and smart practices, they just massively outspend the competition until it's destroyed and then start ripping off the customers. Welcome to modern capitalism where monopoly is not only considered a legitimate business goal but it's the whole fucking plan.

show us where the bad book salesmen touched you.

To long to watch sadly, but dude is a smart guy and basically digged into a market taht would be the future. However him ruling the planet remarks is kinda laughable tho. Dude is successful and that's about it. If he would dissapear with amazon tomorrow nothing would be lost as somebody else will fill the void.

Well, to play devil's advocate, life is not now nor has it ever been "fair". Expecting the world to treat you fairly is just a waste of energy and misplaced hope.

Yes things are not equitable in life. Welcome to reality.

You're right, we should also let criminals roam free because, you know, life isn't fair. If you get robbed, well, shit happens.

Or maybe only rich people should be allowed to cheat in society, please specify because I'm not sure what your philosophy is exactly.

Love Amazon, literally use it all the time. Music, ebooks, comics, movies,, tv, shopping, and home automation. I do wish there was more competition for it. Walmart seems to be stepping up there slowly.

My busiest street in town still has about 6 empty, vacant stores. Retail will die. Even grocery stores aren't safe. Even online retailers arent safe. Even walmart isn't safe.

This is different.

No amount of efforts to rectify wrongs will result in a just and equitable world for all.

My philosophy? Make peace with what *is*. Surrender.

However, if you are moved to make things better (different), then you should follow that internal pull to its resolution. In my experience, you will likely discover that those efforts will have made minimal to no impact at best, and very possibly made things worse.

The best anyone can do is be kind to all. Any attempts at radical change, efforts in harmony with force of any kind are all ultimately violence, in the end.

Amazon isn't in my country, i think they are just allowed this year to enter under heavy regulations. However online shops are everywhere and retail is already dead for a while.. Tons of them, big ones small ones etc. Amazon not being a thing here didn't stop the world from changing here into the same direction. Dude could go bankrupt tomorrow and a new retailer goes forwards. Dude is smart in his market and that's about it.

So okay. Listen.

I have friends at Amazon making 200k a year doing government cloud contracts with $45k bonuses for passing security clearance.

So it's not all bad 😈.
