He also says that both consoles were aiming higher than Stadia's 10.7 TF. Don't care about GCN/RDNA here. Higher is higher literally in a number sense to me.

Github didnt seem to add up to definitively anything.

Multiple insiders peg the systems at double digits in TF.

Several still said that PS5 had the edge until recently(some still say that) and that "edge", regardless of who has it, matters not. *Slightly* is a huge key word here.

Additionally, I think there's no way a company like Sony didn't have a contingency plan in place if they gambled low.

I don't look for a 9v12. I don't even look for a 13-14TF bombshell.

I look for Sony to say "12TF RDNA, yadda" and when people realize they are looking at essentially a mirror of XSX, they'll realize how silly this all was in the end.

Yeah, I think the consensus that it is some sort of boost mode or enhanced BC makes more sense than tests on native PS5 games.

To add.. the price of the XSX and PS5 Pro is a major concern. It could go as high as $800. The XSX is literally the latest development for AMD. The price could interfere with Nvidia's 2080-series of cards if priced much lower than the 2080 Super. I hope that Nvidia drops their prices down when the top of the line next-gen consoles come out *IF* they cost much lower than the 2080. Also PS5 Pro might not see the light of day until 2022.

I don't think anything to do with console would have effect on the PC graphic card market. As we can see from many on these forums even, PC gamers are just as religious about their boxes as any other fanboys are. People in the market for a top end PC card normally don't CARE about consoles or perhaps they use consoles for their family or their more casual gaming but go to the PC for their high end stuff.

Bottom line, I don't think that argument holds water.

From what we've heard from people "in the know", they are kinda close (within 15% of each other). Which is why I don't think Sony are going with a 9.2TF (which I believe only makes sense with 40CU@2GHz, if someone can do the math for me...), 2GHz is too high so it would be below 9TF using that result. And that's not that close (30%, not within 15%).
I could be wrong, I don't know shit, but yeah... I'm not buying a much weaker console if its the same price.

I think the 9.2 thing originated in 2017 (the GitHub thing was 2018, right? and said something about 2017?) and they might've changed plans.
Hopefully anyway, best case scenario lol.
The best thing I think for MS would be if Lockheart isn't a straightforward weaker Series X. And no PS5 Pro at launch/2 years later.

Well, especially if they can produce a box for less cost and have it be comparable to Microsoft, why WOULDN'T they? Also, IF market analysis led both companies to pursue a higher end market and price point this time around? There are multiple reasons.

But bottom line, If Sony sticks around $399 and MS is at $499 or $599 and does NOT have a lower end SKU, they will get crushed again in the marketplace most likely. If MS DOES have a lower end SKU then that is what will sell and the high end box will sell very little. I don't see an advantage to EITHER company to go high end. I'd like to see that, as I would buy a high end box, but not enough of the mass market would to make it work. Besides, it's more about the games and IP. Look at the Wii and what it did when everyone was laughing about it at first. MS has had the high end for the past year or so now, over the PS4 and PS4 Pro...how well is THAT box selling?

Even just under or over 11 wouldnt be enough to get people with PS4 games that can work via BC and their PS4 online profiles to abandon those things especially if they have a ton of pretty games to show with it

It wont "hold back" the xsx, resolution scales very well.

And higher res is all that those extra TFs get? Its easy to change res and fps for a dev. The games scale, draw distance, animations, effects, etc will all have to be designed with a 4tf (or more) needing to run them. They can't be easily changed

Look man, I want to believe you, but there's stuff just not adding up.

I'm well aware of the goings at WB (the site I work for consitently posts leaks and info on TV/Film updates) and fully know about a Superman MOVIE, but nothing on a game.

Almost all of WB's studios are accounted for:

• WB Montreal - Batman Reboot
• Rocksteady - DC team up game
• Netherrealm - MK11 DLC/most likely Injustice 3
• Monolith - Multiplayer game with Nemesis System
• IO Interactive - Hitman 3/ Multiplayer shooter
• Turtle Rock - Back 4 Blood
• TT Games - Lego Star Wars
• Avalanche - Harry Potter

And the rest are on mobile stuff. Now unless they struck up another partnership with someone, they couldn't possibly have a Superman game ready to launch soon. And they wouldn't, especially not with Batman launching in the Fall.

I think Osiris hinted that the Rocksteady one is a Superman/Batman teamup/vs(?) Game.

He said 'if sb says SUPERMAN, WB BeATs him', or something.

Having 2 skus, a cheaper one and a more powerful expensive SKU would be the best of both worlds.

But I don't know why you have to go full console warrior on me.
I could not care less which one "wins" I'm just interested in why each company will take the direction they choose.

Uhhh...not sure how I'm going "console warrior" on you? Just saying this makes no sense. Two SKU's like that is NOT the best of both worlds from what we've seen in the market thus far. Far from it. If anything, the market history shows that with the right games and marketing, the LOWER END is where it makes sense to be. That's not what hardcore folks like us probably want (for the most part). Like I said, I'd gladly buy some high end $800 box, but the mass market WOULD NOT and has shown repeatedly that this is the case.

So really, I would see either or both companies putting out a high and low end SKU simply resulting in low sales for the high end and more sales for the low. That's not a win.

Has anyone considered the possibility that MS simply keeps the XoX as their 'low end' box while releasing the new? They've already said games will work on all platforms for at least some time. This gives them a lower end SKU without additional R&D. I still think it means that the XoX would represent the vast bulk of their sales, but....

Sony could do the same thing by simply keeping the PS4 or PS4 Pro alive, but again, I think it would just drive the vast majority of their sales to that end and make the PS5 sales languish. Plus, there's less margin on a low end product line a lot of times and if that's the case, it could severely impact profits for whichever company tries to do this.

I don't think it's happening. I don't think MS is planning on two SKU's. Not right now. I think if anything, those rumors (for both companies) were based on them planning on two possible targets for next gen boxes...a mid range type of box and a high end. But we'll see.

The text seems to be all over the place.

I never got dates nor prices. As I said before, "expensive" to me means near Nvidia 2080 costs. The guessing is all on me so take it with a grain of salt.

PS5 as of now is 9TF. I specifically asked that and got a yes.

PS5 falls in between performance of the Lockheart and the XSX. That is confirmed.

The iffy part is the PS5 Pro.

Anyway, I tried to piece together was is happening. It appears like the PS5 Pro is coming later. That would mean the base PS5 is 9TF and perhaps the 2 SKUs for Xbox are releasing during xmas 2020.

So 2 models. Possible 2 coming out from Microsoft but 1 coming out for Sony.

There is ZERO correlation to next gen console and nvidia. Sony and MS does not have stock in the 2000 series nor do they care about it. AMD high end cards are going to blow the water out of these consoles.

Have to agree with this. I think it would be stupid for either Sony or MS to release two SKU's like this. They would just drive the market to their low end. Look, if the game was about power driving sales the CURRENT high end MS box would be dominating sales...but it's not. Balance is key but the market has shown you don't even really need THAT to drive massive sales if you have the right games and marketing that captures the public (See 'Wii, Nintendo').
