GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

This game is gonna be huge. As big as it can be, especially in Japan.

Sad that the Switch isn't gonna benefit that greatly, because of shortages.

I remember in that thread about the Switch outselling the PS4 when launch aligned that a couple of posters were arguing that in a few months the PS4 would inevitably retake the lead. Shortages weren't talked about as a possibility then. I'm sad that they're going to be proven right.

I think it'll work more like shaking up a pop bottle. All that consumer desire, and nowhere for it to go... whenever the shortages do end, I expect some really good numbers.

Shortages tend to help Nintendo, rather than the opposite.

Or maybe people will check out the Lite? That seems to be in plentiful supply. I guess we'll see.

Anybody know much about the Brigandine series?

The artwork and music is very Fire Emblem, whilst the gameplay and in game look is not so much.

I'm intrigued.

Don't get fooled by Japanese covers. They do them very well

Take Left Alive for example

You'd expect a top tier game after looking at this. I feel sorry for Yoji Shinakawa...

Some Doom Eternal news:

Stratton said:

"We really haven't talked about dates or anything – I can say that I played it about a week ago, and I am stunned. Our partner on that, Panic Button, I've referred to them many times as masters of the platform, and they're proving it again. I really think it's gonna surprise people[…] I see it all the time in the comments, when we release a video: 'Can't wait to play it on Switch, can't wait to play it on Switch.' I think people are going to love it."
"We're having it come out later because we want to do the right job with it, we want it to be the highest quality version of the game on the Switch. [We] don't want to be compromising in any way."
"They (Panic Button) have a whole team of UI artists. It is a small screen, so there are times we pack a lot of information onto the screen, but yes. Menus, UI, the dossier – a lot of adjustments across the board to make sure that, again, it is the best possible version you can get on the Switch."

So, I finally got around to downloading the parental controls app. Only for the ability to view playtimes for games (because I'm sick of the Switch not listing it initially until 5+ days have passed).

Setup my Switch with it. Synced it. Playtimes read zero time played.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it only start tracking from the minute you setup the app the first time?

I loaded up a NES game for a couple minutes and noticed that it said 5 minutes used, so I'm guessing that is the case.

I played Doom for an hour this morning (BEFORE I installed the app) and that wasn't logged.

Confusing.

EDIT: After 25 minutes of Doom II, it sent me an update saying I've played 25 minutes of Doom II. So, I guess it does just start from the first time you start the app. Shame, I was hoping it'd have my entire history.

EDIT 2: Also, it puts a big, ugly orange parental controls toggle in the middle of your home screen (for those thinking of doing it).

Anybody else thinking about buying that Animal Crossing Switch?

I really shouldn't. Lol.

But ( 😋 )

My current Switch seems to have some mechanical problem where the fan makes crazy amounts of noise and vibration when jostled the wrong way, the nicer battery and apparently screen, and the aesthetics of this special edition (I adore it and it would look so good in my living room) have really got me thinking about it.

I don't know. I feel like I should just pay $100 for a repair. There's also that the coronavirus and Nintendo being Nintendo, will probably make buying this thing a nightmare.

Do it. Pre Order it.

My OG switch does the same thing in handheld that's part of the reason I prefer my lite for handheld. I'm holding off for the revision to upgrade.

I think Newly Vacant Newly Vacant was going to get it if I'm not mistaken.

Have you tried cleaning out the fans? Maybe blowing out some dust could help.
While I do love buying new stuff myself I only hesitate buying a new Switch partly because I heard transferring everything over can be a hassle.

First and last time I compare myself to Wolverine, lol, but literally me rn.

I need to give it a shot. How do you personally go about doing that? This kind of thing, especially if it means opening the system, is a little out of my depth.

Transferring everything over could not be easier :) especially if you have switch online.

But that's the best position to play at, I swear I've done most of my Switch gaming this way...lol

I would just try blasting the vents first.
I will admit I haven't had any fan issues with my Switch and haven't tried it myself but I don't think it'll hurt it.

Teardown video looks fairly easy but you need the right tools.

I sold my old Switch to buy the new Animal Crossing-themed one. I bought my kids a Switch last year, and I can't believe how much quieter and cooler the new version runs. Between the hardware improvements and the Animal Crossing design, I couldn't resist.

If you're starting to have problems, it might be worth it to trade it in or sell it, before it breaks down. Also, the Animal Crossing theme looks great!

Now you're going to make me get the new version :messenger_unamused:

I still use my day one Switch and waiting for the so called Pro version but I'll wait till E3 for now

I found an interesting video while browsing today:

It's quite good comparison of original Xenoblade Chronicles and the upcoming Definitive Edition. This really shows how much effort is being put in this version. Hopefully we'll see more of it soon.

Xenoblade Chronicles seems to be more in the remake territory than remaster. Looking good. Now bring over XCX so we can gave the whole trilogy on Switch.

Well, considering the game is being built completely from scratch with new engine, assets and models, I dont see it as nothing less than a remake.

I haven't played Xenoblade since it was released, I'm really looking forward to replaying it. Hopefully Nintendo releases it soonish. I feel like there's a drought of Switch games right now. I mean, I don't think there is, but all the games I'm looking forward to are still unreleased. At least this is Animal Crossing month.

Afterparty looking fun as hell. Loved Oxenfree and this seems to be in the same vein. Would be cool with a physical bundle of the two games.

That is a MASSIVE upgrade! Can't wait! Thanks for pointing this out Andyliini Andyliini

So with 101 coming to the Switch, the only noteworthy Title thats missing is xenoblade chronicles x, are there any Rumors if this also will get a Port ?

This not a simple remaster like God of War HD that just upscale the texture. I would say this much more similar to Shadow of the Colossus in PS4.

I traded my Switch in over that fan noise thing. Mine was making some kind of scraping sound. I'm actually really happy with my trade in!

As long as you don't have any saves that don't use the cloud backup system, the transition is actually really painless.

-Arcadia- -Arcadia- Also meant to tell you if you decide to go for a trade-in, be sure to confirm with the store ahead of time whether they will let you do a system transfer. My store would not allow me to do it and insisted I could download all my saves from Nintendo's cloud... luckily, I could at the time.

That game was really good though. A solid survival game with some amazing elements, great graphics, beautiful music, but some so-so control and AI. I feel people misunderstood the point of the game. Most people I see criticize it tried to play it as a third person shooter ala Uncharted (which it isn't) or a stealth game ala MGS (which it isn't). It is a survival game. Stealth plays a part, but it is more important to craft items and utilize them to get around, including killing when possible. You are supposed to feel tense when spotted and like you are nothing more than a frail meatsack.

I would love that. Though I think LRG were the ones who did an OxenFree physical release so we may see the same here for Afterparty.
