Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

I think they have the headroom to up-clock prior to launch which will most likely require a day 1 firmware update.

A console does not need to have more TF to be better and +/- 1 TF will make no difference in the end.

But if MS needed to up-clock after their official reveal just to match a competitor then they will have already admitted defeat.

Twitter has built in translation. Use that.

that doesn't help much either tho lol...

I edited my comment from before, it appears he is disappointed in the new Radeon stuff in general now that the SoC got revealed. but I'm not sure about that interpretation lol

Not sure how credible Marlon's source is, the one that said TLoU2 CE was coming back 30mins before it was tweeted out. Anyways yesterday he said its 13.5TF and that there was a digital invite that was sent out.

Trying to catch up, 7 pages since I slept, wth....

Every console GPU can be measured in FP16 and Cerny was first to use FP16 tflop number with PS4 Pro, so Series X isn't first console that this is mentioned about. It's juts marketing BS at the end of the day.

No not quite, This was specifically about Polaris features in PS4 which made using them advantageous and practical.

"Finally, there's better support of variables such as half-floats. To date, with the AMD architectures, a half-float would take the same internal space as a full 32-bit float. There hasn't been much advantage to using them. With Polaris though, it's possible to place two half-floats side by side in a register, which means if you're willing to mark which variables in a shader program are fine with 16-bits of storage, you can use twice as many. Annotate your shader program, say which variables are 16-bit, then you'll use fewer vector registers."

"One of the features appearing for the first time is the handling of 16-bit variables - it's possible to perform two 16-bit operations at a time instead of one 32-bit operation," he says, confirming what we learned during our visit to VooFoo Studios to check out Mantis Burn Racing.

No it doesn't magically double your GPU performance but targeted in the right areas it helps and was features new to Polaris and PS4 Pro at the time.

My final Prediction for tomorow

Cpu= Zen2 8c/16t @ 3.5 ghz
Gpu= 52 cu's Rdna2 @ 1.9ghz 12.6 tflops
Ram= 20 gb gddr6 on a 320bit bus
Storage= 1tb ssd @ 5GB/s

And last but not least a Lot of Special Sauce

With the Coronavirus I am skeptical about what they will say tomorrow (is tomorrow already today? Or tomorrow istomorrow?). Maybe they say a lot or maybe they just say what they had planned to say at the GDC (architecture and development). We'll see what happens. I hope they give all the information possible. I go to bed, sorry.

Lol. My imagination is already running amok.

What would excite you more?

A PS5 port of Half Life Alyx as one of the PS VR 2 launch titles.

A PS5 port of Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volley 2 as one of the PS VR 2 launch titles.

Assuming that the PS5 comes with Haptic feedback glove controllers, the latter would be more exciting imo.
Alyx would be better. If fact, Dead or Alive would be really frustrating. You would see all dat polygon count, with Ray traced reflections on wet surfaces, soft body physics and all, only to reach with your eager hands and be disappointed by the current state of technology 😢

And this is about RDNA2 features which makes using them advantageous and practical, so you can make argument both ways, but the fact remains Cerny talked about it first.

BGs BGs get well dude, and thanks for drip feeding us info!!!

Cuídate y mejórate, a ver si pasamos todo esto lo más rápido posible, que la cosa se está poniendo complicada en España.

I just told him to get better and take care, if anyone's wondering, we happen to both be from Spain.

Sorry. I have the Covid-19 and I am quite absent working from home when I can. I haven't been very hot these days. What happened?
Very sorry to hear that, but as an adult man I'm sure you will overcome it without problems. At least you will be at home some days to watch the PS5 review and write your topic about next generation VR 😉

everyone should do a final prediction... we need some fun in here! Place your bets!

CPU: Zen 2 16 Threads - 3.2ghz
GPU: RDNA2 36 CU - 2GHz
RAM: 20GB - 16GB GDDR6 + 4GB DDR4
STORAGE: 1TB SSD, not sure about the speed, but fast lol

whoever comes closest has a big PP

In regard to the awesome news I'll say what I already said on the thread created because of the announcement, forgive me for being a little lazy:

Well, that was a quick response, looking forward to it.

Series X is an absolute beast, and Microsoft are handling things really well, and I'm happy for them because of that, but PS is still so close to my heart (been playing on this platform since christmas 1995, thanks to my lovely parents), that, the way I've felt the excitement go all over my body while reading the tweet, is something that cannot be compared to any actual hardware specs.

Imagine Cerny revealing how he engineered a 9.2tf console that needed more expensive cooling than Series X two days after the competitor reveals the much more powerful & efficient console.

I can't imagine that.

Ah crossed wires I think. My point was that "Every console GPU can be measured in FP16" isn't true - or at least in an advantageous and practical. It's a nice feature that has good practical uses and is standard in AMD cards now, but was introduced around the PS4 Pro - so it's a feature PS4 didn't have. :messenger_grinning:

Fuck it, why not.

CPU: 3,6 GHz
GPU: 54 CUs at 1,8 GHz for 12,4 TF
RAM: 16 GB
Storage: 1 TB SSD at 4 GB/s uncompressed

FINALLLLLLLY!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
Considering msft just released info yesterday, all eyes are gonna be on sony, most would have been anyway, but revealing this close to msft puts even more of an impetus to show is something great.

Personally I think that they originally planned to release info at gdc but once that got cancelled waited for msft to reveal something first.

Seriously though out of nowhere.

I wish you the best of luck.

And final hints? Under or over 12?

Agreed. Hoping they showcase at least one next gen exclusive with ray tracing.
A next gen exclusive would be a big bonus!

My dream is for more than just PS4 backwards compatibility, I have a lot of older PS games that I still play and plan to play, and I would love to toss away my older consoles

Nope, every one of you github believers (36cu/2ghz/9,2tf) loses (if ps5 is 10tf+) must use Tommy fisher avatar for one month.

Wouldnt it be funny if the PS5 was 10 TF and still sold more than the xbox series X, its almost like it doesnt matter if one isnt as powerful or easy to develop for as long as the games and direction is good. I mean it already happened once.

GPU-13.3TF RDNA2 + "secret sausage"
RTX Hardware + audio
CPU-3.7gh Zen 2
Memory-20gb (16Gb DDR6+4Gb DDR4)
SSD 1tB/5gb+
Controller-haptic feedback, wireless charging, heart rate senzors

I'll take that bet... why not lol
but only if he was correct. it it's not his specs I will use whoever's "leak" was the closest

What would be funny about it? I fully expect ps5 to outsell series x, anyone thinking other wise is probably not thinking.
