As expected. BC is not easy. Also licenses. MS has a massive headstart here. PS5 BC will be like OG Xbox BC on Xbox 360. No enhancements either.
 
Eh I think you all are jumping the gun on this. The implication I got was that it was BC with PS4. Its just that they TESTED the top 100 games.

They probably will be. They just don't want to guarantee it 100% in case there's unforseen issues with obscure game x or y.
 
What I expected really.

BC usually just meant things may work with issues. MS put lots of effort into their xb1 BC and embraced it as a feature with enhancements to games.

Sony just doesn't seem to really care that much. You can't even get the cheap ass ps1 games on the ps4.
 
My biggest hope was PS2 and PS3 Backwards compability. Now my biggest hope is reduced to just fully PS4 Backwards compability.
 
Did they mention disc-based BC at all?
 
From what he was saying it sounds like the same thing he said when talking about the PS4 Pro and the software BC on PS3. All the games should work but some might have minor issues.
 
So Capcom will be skipping a patch of RE 4 PS4 version and instead sell the game again lol. Hopefully most games i play are compatible.

Weird, I though it was just throw the games as they are since its the same architecture.

I think Sony may be pissing the bed a little bit with Ps5, this better be 100$ less than the Series X
 
Stoopid. I thought one of the PS5's key edges would be simply carrying the PS4's momentum forward with full compatibility with all the games you already have - get one as both an 8th gen upgrade as well as new 9th gen exclusives - but if they messed that up that advantage is gone.


Starting to wonder about my next gen choice tbh...
 
XSX executes native Xbox one code according to Digital Foundry, it was built into the XSX chip. This is a big fail on Sony. It seems that Microsoft took next gen a lot more serious than Sony did.

i mean, duh. this is how it works with literally every single BC system ever. it isn't going to play 100% of all games right out of the box. having that expectation is pretty silly, given how BC has worked in every other real world instance. sometimes, the older games work right away. sometimes they don't, the faster framerate breaks physics, etc. so the games need to be patched. they do this on xbox.

i dunno, some people freaking out right now are on this "all or nothing" trip. they won't be happy until it plays every single game released in the past 25 years. that's a pretty silly expectation.

Fucking awful. Makes me 100% hesitant to buy any PS4 games going forward.

I'll wait for the PC releases of Nioh 2 and FF VII: Remake.

This is very disappointing and Sony really haven't tried as hard as Microsoft on this. I must say that the series x looks more appealing for multiplatform games.
 
lol wtf, he said that the architecture has assured retrocompat, but still due to changes of hardware, games should be tested on a game to game basis, BUT they tested the 100 most played game and all those games work perfectly.
You can extrapolate that to say that most of ps4 games will play without issues or with minor issues.

I bet its going to be better than ps1 retrocompat on the ps2 and that was like a 98% compatbility.
