Let's go Team GItHub

And given that a large part of the world may be unemployed for a big chunk of the year, that may be to their benefit. I wanted more flops but the price/power dynamic is gonna be interesting to see played out with the economic shit show looming.
so they planned CV19? are you kidding me? they just went cheap. they could not make it with 40cu or 44cu? you want consoles as close us possible for the best results in gaming.

~17% difference in TF isn't a huge deal, hopefully it doesn't drop much from the 10.3. The audio stuff sounds cool but I doubt it's any different to what the Series X does. Price and box reveal in June?

this variable clock stuff seems an awful lot like corporate-speak to me, like Cell. 10.3 is its absolute max throughput and best case scenario. Sounded to me like it was cope to coverup the fact that most of the time it will be operating at 9.2flops

Their SSD solution is going to be expensive and might be the hill they die on which I hate.

If I watched right they mention you can plug alternative storage for PS4 games and reserve the SSD for PS5 or use SSD for all games. Looks for me more like an excuse for the 825GB instead of 1TB.

I've been here all along, and not going anywhere, let's do this. Who is the first to show me the shame bell?
I'm sure the queue will be long.

To the contrary, I don't give a single fuck about the dick measuring contest. Let's leave it to teenagers pumped with testosterone. Thanks for all the pigeons. Ten is a fine bunch. Keeping them healthy and fed is important.

Huh, am I the only one in the world who was really amazed and impressed? Well not by the amateurish greenscreen and awkward "audience" silhouettes, but by the hardware engineering!
I'm actually really excited. It may not be as powerful of a system as it was unbelievably hyped to be, but it's still a massive improvement over the PS4, which already has amazing looking games. I'm personally stoked on the audio side of things as well. That will make games so much more immersive.

Man some of you are pathetic and didn't even pay attention what Cerny said. The PS5 is basically going to be running at 10TF a majority of the time and will only drop if it has to. Somehow you fucks took that to mean, "OMG 9.2 WAS RIGHT!!! GITHUB WAS RIIIIIIIIGHT!" False. GitHub only gave part of the answer. If the PS5's cooling solution is as robust as we are hearing, it's not going to be a problem.

For what it is, PS5 is a monster, just not to the degree of XSX, but we are going from 1.84TF to 10.2TF. Do you people not understand how much of a leap that? Stop being fucking idiots and just appreciate this next gen is about to be amazing instead of acting like spoiled ass little children.
I didn't think i would be excited about the ssd at all. But Cerny worked his magic on me 😂.

I think everyone is missing the part where Cerny was talking about the performance gain from higher clock speed instead of lower clock but more CU's ?

Realistically I reckon it's probably on par with the SeX in terms of max power considering this and the SSD speeds.

But Sony will have the cheaper price at $399 for sure but at the end of the day people play games at 4K 60FPS who is going to care ?

SeX will be $499 and as people do, they will buy whatever is cheapest.

PS5 Pro will be the 8K system and realistically most people only have 4K TV currently so no point in pushing the power to the limit. This isn't a PC so it's a different preformance scale so PS5 will not hold back anything.

Smart move by Sony but poor delivery

I'm gonna buy 2x ps5 = 20,6 tflops OF POWAH.

Bit disappointed but cerny probably knows what he does, so 36Cu + high speed vs 52CU+slow speed = could be that it is not even seen in games which is which.

16gb on ram on both sounds low, but maybe fast ssd equals into no need for more.

3d audio = nice if it works

But I just wanted to see the god damn BOX, Cerny just said that there will be a tear apart to show the cooler, nothing about when it happens

PS5 looking amazing, awesome specs, SSD looks phenomenal, GPU 10.3 is super great. Also maybe they can hit that 399? who knows

Also Cerny is promising a not noisy console, that also super great.

The only disappointment is still no ps123 BC, hope they still working on it and will come later on.
forget it man, they went cheap as f. do you think they will make BC for PS1,2,3? they barely will make 100 PS4 games for launch and those which are played most.

Both CPU and GPU clocks are variable so it will be around 20-25% difference.
Shit I forgot about the CPU lol.

this variable clock stuff seems an awful lot like corporate-speak to me, like Cell. 10.3 is its absolute max throughput and best case scenario. Sounded to me like it was cope to coverup the fact that most of the time it will be operating at 9.2flops
Yeah I am not a fan of it, fingers crossed it doesn't drop that much.

I'll try to expose my (unbiased) opinion.

So far I must applaud Phil Spencer for how he and the X Team have been handling the XSX reveal. They went at the Game Awards for the first words about it and later straight to DF and online media which is aimed at gamers. I thought this was much better than Sony staying shut for months and then coming up with a video that was meant for GDC. If you're making a reveal for the gamers and the indystry as a whole just do something better. That reveal was pretty bad IMO.

That said, I think PS5 and XSX have very different approaches. Graphically speaking there's no doubt the XSX is stronger. But there's a lot more to talk about here. Its APU is probably a lot bigger and having almost 50% more CUs than PS5's APU will make it a lot more expensive. PS5 is probably a lot faster than the X and I'm wondering how much of a difference this will make while gaming.

Seeing how bad the economy is right now (and probably will be for a long time), I think the cheapest console will have a better time selling. And in this case I think PS5 will comfortably sell for $100 less than the XSX. If Lockhart had been put on hold or even cancelled, at this point I believe Microsoft will make a big deal out of it in the next few months. And no, I don't believe it'll be a 4TF box. I believe they'll go as close as PS5 as they can while keeping a cheaper price.

I wonder if it'll be $100 or $50 cheaper. I bet it will be $449 vs $499. Sony cannot price it at the same price as the XSX.

i agree 100% this is creating such a divide in the gaming community right now its disgusting.

Looks like they put all their money into a super fast SSD, which is double Sex's SSD speed.

Everything else is better on SeX.
but when talking fractions of seconds was it worth it? If loading GTA VI takes 2 seconds on PS5, will anyone care it takes 4 seconds on xbox?

seems like a very odd choice to blow their extra cash on. should have went with same ssd as MS and upped something else

I screen captured one of the most cringey meme'able image from the live stream to share with you guys.

I felt for Cerny...Even though the slideshow is 100% technically correct, but deflecting is not a pleasant but a hard job.

I disagree. To me it shows who has a better understanding (comprehension) vs muh TF's Bro (feels) in the real world i.e. comments & such (online or in verbal conversation).

Yeah! And I genuinely believe that 9-10 TFs is more than enough to produce insanely good looking games. I really couldn't care less if the Xbox has 20% more raw power or something. PS5 exclusives will look better than any multiplat anyway, just like this gen.

This is part of what piqued my interest. I understand the logic that they went with ( ex: A 2D "16-bit" indie game doesn't need all the GPU power) due to the way power is used and heat is created but how does this turn out in real world performance. They also made it a point to say they had the option for a larger GPU but opted for higher clock speeds...this can be interesting.

in my opinion, I feel that the moderators allowed all of these "insiders" to post here in the past months (and they'll allow them to post here in the future as well) because it drummed up more usage on this site. It sucks that no one will face any repercussion for posting info that was not real, even if they did so with the right intentions Mod of War Mod of War Faust Faust

The presentation could've been an article, as it's essentially the same type of info we were given by Microsoft via articles. However, my curiosity about a LOT of things (RAM, SSD speeds, CPU, GPU, 3D audio) is ultimately satisfied, and that counts for a lot, considering the wait.

Calling it the worst presentation ever is such a smooth-brained kneejerk reaction. At worst, it was just boring because it was all tech talk, which was the entire point.
It wasn't the what was contained in the presentation that was a problem, Cerny is just an awful presenter, he makes the boring even more boring. The way MS dropped the XSX deep dive, was far more user friendly and didn't bore nearly as much.

I think the PS5 is going to rock It looks light-years ahead of PS4 pro in every way. I hope it's 399$ lol... I got to buy 2 One for me and one for my son. Here's to 399$ U.S Dollars for the pocketbook.

If I'm being honest, the moderation seems to be biased towards Sony fans. For one of many examples Tommy Fisher trolled and trolled on the Sony fandom side of things and wasn't moderated till his fake screenshot and was even brought back early. There were many, many other Sony fandom comments, posts that went unmoderated. Seemed skewed on that side if I'm being honest. Take that for what it's worth. Maybe my perception is inaccurate...but that's how I saw it.
For Tommy Fisher to have gotten the Xbox SX specs so precise and have given an outlandish 13.3tf figure on the PS5, I believe the man could have been a Microsoft employee who gave those PS5 rumours as a way to fuel our disappointments. Either way, at least he's a legit Xbox source for everyone here. He's probably laughing it up with that Cerny 'secret sauce' of his.

Quite a few regulars absent from the forum today lol. Also i wonder if Estomahz is going to apolagize to Github believers, the ridicule really was nasty at times.

I'm an audio engineer, and tempest looks really sexy. But will developers use it??
Anyway, I'm preparing a (vegan) crow. I was totally expecting Sony to destroy/compete with Microsoft on the GPU side, but they didn't. But, there are chances it's a really balanced system:
1) Custom Hardware decompresses data by itself and stores it in memory without bothering the CPU
2) GPU is updated about moved data without being bothered too much
3) The SSD will work as an auxiliary memory pool, making so that the portion of RAM used is mostly involved with what is going on, not precaching future data
4) 3D audio chip does many self-management tasks without bothering the CPU too much
5) They reach 10+ TFs with lower CU count, but at a higher speed, which should mean more stable performance levels
6) Many optimizations on the LOD system, to ease up GPU load
All of those are happening without developers almost even moving a finger (they are probably horny right now). And Cerny said the many custom chips involved equate to having many more CPU cores. What if this things performs similiarly to XB Series X, and costs less???
I just hope that the bandwidth rumor floating around is wrong, and it's much higher.

This almost feels like the old SNES/GENESIS/PS1/N64/PS2/GC days, where every component on the board was custom so that they would squeeze every bit from the console.
