The Gaming Revolution says this year’s game is in development at Black Ops creator Treyarch with support from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.

Codenamed Project Zeus and likely to be named simply Call of Duty Black Ops, the game is said to be a reboot of the Black Ops franchise in a similar fashion to 2019’s Modern Warfare reimagining.

Characters Alex Mason and Sergeant Frank Woods will return in the campaign, although they’ll be portrayed by new actors, and the game will tell a new storyline with some similar threads to previous Black Ops titles.

The campaign is said to be focused on the real-life events of the Cold War and Vietnam War, and explore the latter a lot more than the original Black Ops game did.

It’s described as highly realistic and gorier than Modern Warfare, with plenty of shock factor and a notable interrogation scene.

The campaign will reportedly include a retelling of the Vietnam story from multiple perspectives including the US, South Vietnam and the Viet Cong.

Built with the engine that Infinity Ward Poland made which was used for Modern Warfare, the game is said to include large multiplayer modes including 32 vs 32 Ground War.

Killstreaks will include UAV, counter UAV, a dog-based one, a flamethrower, and a bomber plane which destroys any other sky-based streaks.

Operators are said to be returning, so Specialist characters don’t look to be.

Multiplayer DLC will reportedly be free, as it is with Modern Warfare, but a Zombies season pass is being considered.

I am the opposite. MW is my favorite since BOPS 1. WW2 is close though. It improved greatly after they redid the division systems.
The only jet pack on I put any time in was BOPS3. It was alright, but much perfer BOTG.

I don’t think this will work as well for them.

From an outsider perspective, people were excited for the Modern Warfare reboot, because it was time. Bringing back the 2007 concept and moving away from space combat and whatever else felt pretty natural. Likewise, if the question was, how do we represent current combat and world conflicts in the most accurate, yet also fun/fictional way, 2019 presented a compelling, totally new answer, from console technology to themes to equipment used in the battlefield.

Sprinkle in beloved characters for the final kick.

Rebooting Black Ops... it just feels like that story has been told. There isn’t really a thematic argument to restart this series, nor does it seem particularly exciting on the surface.

Treyarch would be better off starting a brand new Black Ops story, keeping the same vibes and style.

For all the fake leaks we get all year long about games and sometimes hardware, the truly amazing thing is that every leak in regards to the next CoD, all the time, no matter how crazy in advance they happen in regards to the game's release, turn to be true.

A new report from Call of Duty leakers suggests Treyarch is hard at work on a “gritty Black Ops reboot” for this year’s release. Allegedly, both Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software are assisting with the reboot’s development. The report further claims Sledgehammer will also produce a free-to-play Call of Duty experience, slated for launch in 2021.

These claims come courtesy of The Gaming Revolution, which alleges the gritty reboot is in the same vein as Activision’s recent Modern Warfarereimagining. Codenamed Project Zeus, the Black Opsreboot will supposedly explore real-world happenings surrounding the Cold War and Vietnam War. Much more focus will be placed on the latter than what players experienced in the original Black Ops, however.


In turn, The Gaming Revolution’s report claims the rebooted campaign will revisit Vietnam stories from several perspectives over the 40-year period, including those of the US, South Vietnam, and Viet Cong. Such tales will be relayed through a hyper-realistic and gory lens, even more so than Modern Warfare’s reboot. This is to chiefly feel apparent thanks to the use of shock factor, as well as a noteworthy interrogation scene. Additionally, Black Ops‘ reported reimagining is being powered by Infinity Ward Poland’s engine, the very one created for and used in last year’s Modern Warfare.

On the multiplayer front, Treyarch supposedly has its heart set on massive experiences, such as 32 vs 32 Ground War. For Killstreaks, fans should anticipate one based on dogs, UAV, counter-UAV, flamethrower, and a bomber plane capable of eliminating all sky-centric killstreaks. Interestingly, according to The Gaming Revolution, Operators (from Modern Warfare)are mounting a return, which seemingly suggests Specialists of recent Black Ops entries will sit out this time around.

With regards to DLC, akin to Modern Warfare, multiplayer post-launch content will be free of charge. However, a Season Pass for Zombies presently remains a possibility. Reportedly, Zombies will undergo changes, too, with a new story in the cards. If true, the storyline may emphasize Vietnam, allowing the mode to focus more on realism and less on the fantastical aspects of previous ZOMBIES outings.

While a battle royale mode currently remains an unknown factor, the report insists Sledgehammer is developing a free-to-play game for 2021. The Gaming Revolution claims this particular project will feature an open-world that involves battle royale elements, though specifics aren’t yet clear.

Good. BO2 was interesting but then they went creatively bankrupt with the concept ever since. I just hope they revisit thestrangeness of the Cold War era that BO1 had. Body doubles, chemical weapons, conditional alliances, war rooms, spy plane footage, e.t.c.

I can't wait to see what it looks like on the new engine when I put glass in that guy's mouth and slam his jaw shut.
