I guess time will tell.

And those bloody panic buyers... They seem to have started clearing out the alcohol now. I really hope that this country wakes up in a couple of weeks with a fierce hangover, wardrobes full of toilet roll, cupboards full of out-of-date bread and hand sanitizer and just wonders what the fuck we were all thinking.

Yup, my favourite wine was out of stock at my local Tesco Express. Fuckers.

We can sure hope.

Some info on US cases/deaths.. this looks to be a week old but some idea on US vs elsewhere.

Seems the same with very young people basically doing fine.

The 20's-40's though are requiring ICU rooms and hospitalization at a decent rate, thankfully they usually pull through, BUT if the hospitals get overwhelmed, these people could easily be dying in high numbers as well.

How can things be the same with China after this? This shit is engulfing the world. It's killing thousands, damaging economies, and putting nations into lockdowns, yet any discussion of the origin (the Chinese wet markets and the taste for wild exotic meats) is completely absent from mainstream media. They talk as if this virus just descended from the sky and we've all just got to pull together and overcome it.
Those in the Chinese gov must be loving the images of western nations gradually turning into authoritarian nightmares (even if it is just temporary) along with the death and disruption brought by a virus which, once again, came from China.
It just feels as if we got sit back and suffer through this, wait for the next one, and repeat the process.

Unfortunately, the UK retard quotient is extremely high, you can absolutely guarantee there's going to be all sorts of wankers just going 'fuck that' . I fully expect to see the army deployed to assist with the necessary policing effort.

You are probably right and I would fully support that resort being taken! Now more than ever, I completely support wankers getting owned by the authorities. Didn't know til now that you live in UK 👍

Have there been any reports about the amount of masks being churned out now compared to during normal production and if there's been any crunching done to create a mass uptick in masks and other supplies?

Researchers in Iceland, a country which now can be seen as a laboratory has found up to 40 mutations of the coronavirus.
2 things. more infectious but less deadly.

Question:

Who loses more in an economic crisis like this one? The working class or the elite?

Because it seems to be different this time. It's not a single country that has stopped, it's not local. Food chain/supply is still there, the working class will still be able to work, the need for work is still there...

The ones I see hurting the most from this are investors and big companies, not the usual Joe. So tell me, why is it that the common folk should sacrifice their lives so that the elite keeps on profiting?

I have my savings and food. Why should I risk myself like this? Do we need new cars right now? No. Do we need new phones? No. Do we need new entertainment right now? No. Do we need new material stuff? No. And these are the fuckers bitching about the lockdown, are they not?

So please correct me if I'm wrong, but why should people desperately get back to work?

Yeah. I don't have much of a problem with it. There are far too many people in my life who could be adversely affected by this to take the whole matter lightly. I wouldn't say I'm needlessly worried per se, but certainly, I'm finding it hard to think long about anything else at present (least of all games, unfortunately). As for being in the UK, well that's certainly the meat space but after years of too much internet, I'm not sure it's necessarily the headspace. 🤔

Guy in the video (guest) says AIDS has killed 35 mil - that's how many infected, the number of fatalities is around 800k

?

In 2018 about 37.9 million people were living with HIV and it resulted in 770,000 deaths. An estimated 20.6 million of these live in eastern and southern Africa. Between the time that AIDS was identified (in the early 1980s) and 2018, the disease caused an estimated 32 million deaths worldwide.

I have no idea if Wikipedia is right, but maybe you looked at it wrong?

The sad thing is that I feel like an idiot for having faith in other people and just doing normal shops.

In a few days I'll need to stock up for another week, but I fully expect the shops will be stripped bare.

Well, even though I'm not an American, I did watch Trump live today. that man has calmed me down, which is something I cannot say for the media, especially the cancerous Croatian media.
I really hope Euro countries will do the same. You can't have mandated isolations without killing the economy.
We'll all have to wear gloves and masks for a few months while on the job and on streets and there will be casualties, but that's just the way of life.

I have food and money also. Not everyone has a savings to pay their bills for months. Small companies may not be able to survive a long shut down. It's about finding the right balance between dealing with the virus, keeping hospital volumes manageable and keeping the economy going.

Stop being racist and go back to blaming Trump.

The media has asked no less than 4 times why Trump would make people go back to work...when we aren't even through the fucking 15 day plan yet.

Wait and see you fucking morons. Let the next week happen so we have an idea of what's going to happen.

USA had 3 months to prepare, and then, blames China?

Yeah, guys, that only goes to show how moronic your leadership is.

Though, erhm, hey, most countries in Europe wants to join the moron club too.. :\

It is fucking wierd how the western world reacted so slowly.

Three months to prepare?

Is that before or after CHYNA and WHO said it couldn't go from human to human on January 14th, only two months ago?

Has anyone mentioned that we passed the 100K recovered mark today? I know that number statistically doesn't mean much as the number of cases increases, but it's still nice to see....either way, I'm guessing that's not sensational enough for the media to mention. Then again, almost 73K of that is reported from China, so who knows how grossly inaccurate that might be.

big industries will be deemed too big to fail so they get bailed out.

small businesses will get some help but it won't be enough. any that were already on the edge are done.

but to be perfectly honest we're in uncharted waters. none of us are sure what this year will bring or even the next month or week.

Um We only found out about Human to Human transmission on Jan 20th, thats about 2 months ago. Where do you get 3 months? Would of been nice if CHYNA would of told us about this fact a little earlier. Or maybe the WHO shouldn't have opposed travel bans from CHYNA, or call it a global health crisis and not a pandemic.

CCP didn't react quickly either, first cases were in late November, early December and they didn't lock down till late January. Allowing 5 million Wuhan citizens to escape across the globe and spread the pandemic. On Jan 24th they had 10 000 people at a pot luck New Years dinner.

I think an inquest is likely, but they won't even contemplate that until the crisis is over. They'd be mad to start it now. Put the fire out first and then look into what caused it, how to avoid it happening again, and hold those responsible accountable if appropriate.

It's too soon though, this is a virus that takes weeks for the symptoms to show up. People in the medical field are already pushed to their limits and their morale is probably dogshit. They don't even have enough basic PPE supplies.

What's gonna happen when they say "fuck it" and just not show up.

Look if we had N95 masks for everyone and proper PPE materials I would say go for it maybe. But most grocery stores here in the U.S don't even have fucking hand sanitizer to give to customers to use in the checkout lane.

Oh and once the grocery store workers in the U.S start getting sick in a month in the U.S and start dropping like flies. You really think other workers will show up with how little they get paid?

Well, this is something that is easily manufactured and deployed nation wide after the country opens up for business.

Yeah, that is 3 month's isn't it?

WHO report it on december 29. First record is from november 17.

Trump is starting to signal an end to quarantine, and I increasingly think it's likely.
  1. Americans aren't big on government submission. They'll play along for a few weeks, maybe, but then they'll say "screw this."
  2. Related: people need to feed their families. There are a whole lot of Americans who simply don't get paid if they don't work. You want to throw a thousand bucks at them? Okay, that maybe covers one month of rent.
  3. Trump's reelection depends on the economy. He's powerfully incentivized to end quarantine even before other leaders would want him to. And yeah, governors could countermand him (California will) but do you want to be the guy insisting everyone stay home after the president gives the all-clear?
  4. The US doesn't have the military or police resources – state, national or combined – to enforce quarantine for almost 300 million restless citizens. Are they going to arrest everyone?

So yeah, just a question of "how soon" to my mind. I don't say whether it's the wisest or best course of action; only that restrictions will probably get lifted quickly.

It is fucking wierd how the western world reacted so slowly.

This was declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11. That's barely more than 10 days ago.

The first sign that this might be serious was China locking down Wuhan and putting it in quarantine on January 23rd after failing to contain it, suppressing whistleblowers and information, and lying to the world about the actual situation despite knowing that it would be a problem since at least early December and probably mid-to-late November. Either way, that's two months ago, and most of the world still thought it was going to be mostly relegated to China. The US banned entry to foreign nationals who had been in China in the last 14 days a week after the Wuhan shutdown, but this move was mostly met with criticism (including indirect criticism from the WHO who were still running damage control for China and downplaying the situation).

So yeah, your "3 months to prepare" is some hot bullshit. There's a good reason that most of the world was slow to react and take this seriously. They were repeatedly told by China and the WHO that it probably wouldn't be a big deal and the mainstream media bought that shit up.

All nations knew by january 12, today, it is march 24? How many months is that, and still alot of nations aren't doing or performing the same responses?

well we didn't start things today. This has been a slow roll out of measures. Canada had already pushed social distancing for weeks, closed schools like 2 weeks ago, banned large gatherings, closed cinema's etc.. and now we are basically lockdwon so you can't start counting from today.

Pretty much deciding to quarantine the entire world and wreck the entire global economy decided in less than 2 months thats pretty fast response, no slower than China.

And even the WHO on Jan 31st said they Opposed travel ban on CHYNA. So how can you blame western governments for not quarantining their populations when the WHO opposed banning travel from the epicenter of the virus? Its pretty easy to see why they would oppose a travel ban on China, just look how they bend the knee on Taiwan.

China was still having 10K people gather in Wuhan at the end of Jan when they had their first case on Dec 1st, along with 100's of millions travelling because of their New Year, but somehow the story is they handled it so well. Because they screwed up is the reason the virus got out across the world and became a pandemic. Maybe if 5 million people didn't escape Wuhan things would be different.
