they should treat this like wartime and activate a few more if possible not sure if they can even ramp up that fast with people even if they had the ships
Other branches of the military are playing their role, it's not just on the shoulders of the Navy. For instance, the National Guard is deployed nationwide to help set up testing stations and assisting FEMA with field hospitals:

I'm curious if this is true:

Wouldn't surprise me and I hope it gets corrected quickly.

Remember when USA "failed" to help with Puerto Rico's disaster and media talking heads made much ado about how Trump was to blame.... until it was revealed that millions of dollars worth of supplies were left untouched on the tarmac?

I'm curious if this is true:

Trump is taking about it too:

LOL @ Fake News.
Cuomo has been addressing this for days. The Ventilators go to the warehouse, and are distributed as needed. They need to build up stock because we're not at peak yet.

Why aren't they in hospitals? I can't imagine a hospital with none would be able to request and get one from a warehouse in time to safe a live that needs one... Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Because as hospitals get close to being out, they get sent over. There's no traffic, it doesn't take long.
Also, New York has created a way, and granted permission to split ventilators between 2 patients.
These ventilators will be distributed and used in the coming days/weeks. Many more will be needed.
You can't know which hospital will need them till they need them. It's much harder to get it to the right hospitals once it's been distributed. This is logistics. This is the best way.

Edit: I don't want to sound too confident on this. In general, it is the correct method unless there is a huge surplus where each hospital can store extra. There is potential for mistakes to be made, but I trust the NY government and national guard to be able to distribute effectively as needed.

How come so little talk of ECMO machines. Ventilators aren't enough to keep the worst cases alive.

Maybe the lung damage is too bad at that point. Very few are coming off the ventilators, this seems like it would just delay the inevitable.

Meanwhile there are places in Michigan running out of ventilators, as was reported earlier today in the thread.

And it isn't as though we stopped building new ventilators, either.

I can understand the desire for preparation, but distributing now will save lives.

I guess it's just bad optics when the media makes a point to ask where the ventilators are 3-4 times per day at the press conferences to drive fear that they're out already - when there's thousands just sitting there not being used.

If it's actually working that way then great, but if there is even a single hospital in New York that doesn't have ventilators available *right now* then they are failing.

I absolutely hate how both sides are making this political and playing GOTCHA games at this point. I guess it was bound to happen.. but it still disgusts me. This is absolutely true of people on the right and left.

I don't get why the TDS left keeps trying to make GOTCHA points against Trump for anything and everything. He's allowed to be optimistic. Hell I'd love this to be finished by Easter. I don't think it will, but I'd still HOPE it is.

I don't get why the FOX right keeps cherry picking stories to try and downplay things across the board. It's okay to say it's serious.

The stimulus bill is ridiculous. Both sides trying to fill it with pork spending to fund stupid things. WTF. Just gives more ammunition to both sides to continue this infantile turf war. I would hope this would be a great cause to get people to work together and figure this shit out. I do think there are instances of this happening.. hell you even see Trump praising the governors of CA and NY/etc.. but.. fuck people. Even here people are bitchy at each other. Depressing.

EDIT: NJ update

I edited previous post, but probably better here:

The respirators have not been sitting there long, these are what the federal government sent over this week.

There is a federal stockpile, which the federal government should be distributing from. That's where this 2000 came from.
Dyson has also offered to make more, but I believe it was turned down due to cost. Not sure the issue Trump was treating about with GM, but we're (The US) going to need those too.

Cuomo says Trump tweet's about ventilators in storage was "incorrect and grossly uninformed"
From CNN's Shimon Prokupecz

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo responded to President Trump's tweet that there are thousands of federal government ventilators found in a storage facility in New York and that the state "must distribute now."

Here's what Cuomo said:
"That is incorrect and grossly uninformed. The point is, we have ventilators in a stockpile and we didn't send them to the hospital yet. Of course we didn't — that's the whole point. The hospitals don't need them yet. The hospitals aren't at their apex. The hospitals have enough ventilators today, but their numbers are going up. We're planning for an apex, a high point, in about 21 days – that's when we need the 30,000 ventilators, not today. Right now we're putting them in a stockpile," Cuomo added.
"So the point is, 'well they're in a stockpile, you must not need them is just ignorant – of course you don't need them today! You need them when you hit the apex, which is 30,000. We're not there yet," he said.

The UK will convert two more convention centers into temporary hospitals

UK will convert two further conference centers into temporary hospitals, NHS Chief Medical Officer Simon Stevens said at a news conference on Friday.
London's Excel Centre is already in the process of being turned into a field hospital.
"And today — because this is a problem not just confined to London, but across the whole country — I have given the go ahead to the building of two further of these NHS Nightingale hospitals, beginning with Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre and the Manchester Central Convention Centre, with further such hospitals to follow," Stevens said.
He added that hospital services have been configured so that 33,000 more beds are available to treat coronavirus patients.

sound plan

Well I have to say listening to Pence, Fauci, and Brix's has sold me on the USA's approach, I believe they are going to beat this thing. And if they end it I will bang Dr. Brixs

Looks like Dr. Birx believes in the Easter Bunny. Watch Dr. Birx move on Trump like a horny rabbit.

So instead of getting the ventilators to the hospital so they're ready to go at a moments notice. You keep them locked up somewhere away so it's more of a pain in the ass.

That's like not prepping your meats and stuff for a big ass bbq before you turn the bbq on. Lol.

I can see why Trump probably doesn't like seeing that, half of this press conferences are about making ventilators. No matter what he says it's not good enough, and the following day he'll answer 5 more questions about it.

Looks like the original ventilator post wasn't written in a way to make it look like they're holding them, just that they were delivered:

But the response isn't "Great job!", it's asking for more:

I live next to a big avenue in São Paulo, there are two hospitals nearby, ambulances just won't stop coming at high speed up and down the streets.
I wonder what the situation will be next month when we reach the peak.

It's more akin to having extra propane tanks set aside and ready to go. You're having a big ass fanfest party, and you got 5 BBQ's all running... one has Chicken (by itself because those damn bird people don't want sweat meat touching their birds), some savory ribs, a BBQ dedicated to tasty-ass tri-tip, one for just delicious bbq'd veggies, and the last one is slow cooking some FINE ASS meats.

Now, as people come over to the party, they're bringing more and more stuff to BBQ, so you keep taking meats/etc off, and putting new ones on. Soon you're running out of propane, but since they're all running at different temperatures, and, duh, you were a dummy and didn't top off all the BBQ tanks before you started, they're going out at different times. You hot swap in the full tanks as needed to keep this sweet BBQ running smoothly.

Ya dig?

welcome back China we did not miss you yesterday

Why China like 95% recovered and hardly any new deaths - compared to anywhere else?

Is it cause they made the disease and cure, and decided to spread it to the world and save their selves

Damn bro, some fat guy just fell flat on his back, knocking his glasses off his face outside my local Dollar general a few moments ago. I had to call the ambulance to help him, maybe he has covid-19

Pretty bad stumble too

Is Brazil going to be okay?
you guys not on lockdown like most sane places like Saudi Arabia?
LOL

Some states and cities are, but the president wants schools and businesses open as soon as possible. We're screwed. It's a matter of time until we get to US numbers unfortunately. Actually I think we'll do much much much worse. We'll see.

Edited to add: the presidency is making a commercial saying "Brazil can't stop" to be aired on national TV.

YUP.
