Coronavirus may have infected half of UK population — Oxford study
New epidemiological model suggests the vast majority of people suffer little or no illness
Clive Cookson, Science Editor, March 24, 2020

That would be nice, but it is not logical.
Hospitalizations did not jump up in January and February. Similarly, a high rate of pneumonia would have been immediately apparent. Even if only one in 1000 had developed such a pneumonia, the number of cases would have exploded and it would have been noticed immediately. Hospital overload is happening right now. There is not a single scenario with half an infected population that makes sense in the light of the current situation. Nevertheless, it is safe to assume that the number of unreported cases of infected persons is certainly 20-30 times higher.

Given that China still hasn't found patient Zero, and papers on bioRxiv already debunked the speculation of SARS-nCov-2's initial host came from the market trading wild lives, in that the first few patients having no relation to that market. I have the following conspiracy theory:

I heard rumors about the market origin story being "debunked," but do you have any links to credible sources that clearly explain their reasoning for judging that it wasn't the case?

Nice post Betrayal.
I don't think it's anywhere close to 20-30x though. Maybe 5-10x and that's mainly due to lack of testing. If we were at 20-30x, you're talking already 3 million people in the US.

In all seriousness, I set up the mediation thing and naturally it was right before all this shit, so it was put on hold.

I've heard him coughing a lot outside, so maybe he has it. He's a total moron a few times last week he had his boys over and they were outside gathered around dribbling a basketball, about 7 or 8 of them. He's been going out every single day, so he hasn't heeded the stay home warnings. No idea where he's been going. He's not out long enough to be working and comes back with no groceries or anything.
fucking his side bitch no doubt, brosef. Keep yourself safe though, brosef. We're all in this together after all.

The high case count means that we were not able to control the spread of the virus. Although there were many experts that were predicting this, our leadership thought it wouldn't happen to us.

There are actually two reasons for a high case count. We have failed to contain our spread early enough and we are testing more than the rest of the world. However, the measure of success is not about testing the most people than any other country. Don't let politicians fool you with numbers.

The leaders talk about testing more people than South Korea in 8 days versus 8 weeks, which is true. However, 8 weeks earlier is like 8 months earlier on an exponential curve. South Korea began testing much earlier and has successfully contained the spread so it didn't tax their hospitals. Has the United States done the same? That's the measure of success.

The problem was that the CDC produced faulty kits, and the FDA made the CDC the only point of testing so their failure mean the whole system went down.

Corona Task force cut the red tape and got the private sector involved and testing has taken off.

This is particularly important for this thread.

I want to be very clear, the only way that happens is that this virus remains continuously moving through populations in this cycle, in the fall cycle, and another cycle," Birx continued. "That's through three cycles with nothing being done."

it's a good read but i think it's a losing battle against the mass hysteria. in war *and in pandemics* the first casulaity is the truth. all thanks to the hysteria fed by the media.

Why the death rate in Germany is so low? They're testing in a larger scale than the other countries?

They say the viral load can make a difference on the severity. So maybe Germans just getting it less from direct fluid exchange and more from touching their face. Also probably younger/healthier.

Testing wouldn't protect people from the virus. Since theres no theraputics I don't see how finding it early or later really makes a difference. Positive is positive and you roll the dice with how the virus effects you.

Another evidence supporting the conspiracy theory I had is that it is found that (on bioRxiv preprints repo) SARS-nCov-2 has similar levels of genetic polymorphisms of the ACE2 receptor (so that it encloses the virus' protein shell) for all human races, while only Asians are more vulnerable to the original SARS to develop pneumonia due to genetic difference in ACE2 receptor.

SARS-nCov-2 has the perfect traits of a nuclear-scale biochem weapon: long window of being asymptomatic yet contagious; the death rate is relatively low vs the original SARS which further facilitates the spreading; different genomes of different races do not matter.

I have a question since you follow this. Do you think the Chinese have made more advancements in studying the virus then the rest of the world? And are they making that information available?

It seems like a lot of the innovations are coming from outside China, but that could be since we don't speak/read the language we are not seeing the advancements they are doing.

This is particularly important for this thread.

I disagree with most of what you post, but you're on point with this one.
It's important for all of us to vent, and what better way than to call out this crazy cunt?
Salacious numbers? Numbers are numbers you dumb bitch.
County by county? How you doing that without testing you stupid cocksucker?

Those are just the first couple of sentences, and I don't want to hog it all.
Who's got next?

It's actually the opposite, if you had blocked China and Asia from the rest of the world in time (immediately), thus listening to the fearmongers, none of this would've happened.
You can argue that it was the same political fringe that didn't want to close borders and now claims the virus will kill everybody, but it doesn't matter anymore.

What would be interesting to me, is see if people who want everything open right now would still want so after signing a release form that states if you get coronavirus you (and your immediate family) don't get access to medical facilities even if you're a billionaire, your only option is be confined at home (your passport is confiscated so you can't leave to get treated elsewhere) and hope it doesn't kill you.

New UK numbers 14579 (+2921) which represents a 25% increase, and out of 89111 tests 32.7% positive (roughly 1 in 3 tests results in a positive). Present growth unchecked and we'll be looking at 8k tomorrow and 22k by Sunday. :messenger_neutral:

It's interesting listening to the media again.

Trump talking about the governors should appreciate what the federal government is doing.

It sounds selfish on the surface but it makes sense. The world is watching the USAs response closer than another other nation (maybe Italy is a bit more) and most coverage is massively negative. I think what Trump wants is for people to try and focus on the positives. The narrative has been "make Trump look bad" since day one. It's absurd.

And he said that it's not fair to shit on them because you're shitting on FEMA, you're shitting on the task force, etc.

Bear in mind the UK numbers for today are the first on the new reporting methodology and represent a day and a half's worth of reporting, NOT 24 hours.

The mainstream media propaganda is a social cancer.

At the end of the day, what good is it to shit on Trump during this? How is that productive? (The governors I mean)

If everything he was doing was wrong and failing, sure. But he's doing a million things, some working better than others. Generalizing it all as this negative is so toxic.

He's currently giving a few really good answers in the Q&A, but he also basically reiterated that if you don't kiss his ass, you don't get aid early in the conference.
He needs to stop worrying about he's portrayed right now, because that ultimately won't matter. Take actions like the one's he's talking about now, and he will come out of this a hero.
We won't remember the earlier fuck-ups if he takes the correct course and sticks to it.

I don't think that's it, even when it sounds like it.

If you know Trump (I'm an expert) you know he will trip over himself to compliment someone. But if that person turns around and throws a jab at him, he will counterpunch incredibly brutally.

So I don't think he's saying "kiss my ass and get my help" it's "be fair and let's work together."

There's no reason for any of the in-fighting, but you don't get the press when the governor of Washington shits on him. You only get his rebuttal.

I think 20-30x is very likely. Of course not everywhere, but certainly in the regional epicenters (NYC, Wuhan, London, ...).
Of course, this is not verifiable with the tests currently being conducted, but I think if the antibody tests are used more extensively in a few weeks, then we will come very close to these numbers.

With such sites, I always don't know whether this is meant seriously, or whether people have actually become so stupid that they need these sites.

To sell something like this as a success at a press conference...wow...I mean every blind and deaf 10-year-old can create such a page with 10 minutes Google without any previous knowledge. Maybe Apple has received 500 million dollars from the US government for this great site.

Please check Figure 1: the first known patient has no exposure to the Huanan seafood market (where locals doing illegal wild life trade).

I don't know. However, most papers and research results are published in English. In my field (scientific computing and machine learning), Chinese are really producing much more papers than US, but anecdotal-wise, a higher percentage (than US-based research) of them are just garbage. The most influential research recently in machine learning is conducted in US and Canada though (https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762).

So the us has 100K out of 600K tests?

that is a way high positive rate then most other places. More infected or US better at targeting infected people?
