I can't even read the era virus thread. All they do is talk about trump most of the time, and themselves crying and feeling hopeless. That whole site feeds off each others bizarre brains. That whole off topic board. Filled with incels and emotionally unstable people. It's pretty gross.

Thank the gods for this thread here. I get people are nervous... but sheesh. Get a grip.

Yeah, it has some perks, since the # of different posters is greater, you get some other insight we don't have here, but they do devolve to spending pages upon pages of airing their TDS over and over again. (Though that, and the opposite, has happened here on occasion).

I use the thread to catch up on breaking news I might have missed, and for peoples personal impact/opinions regarding this, as we're all over the place and seeing it first hand is way better info than anything from the news.

It is now obvious, of course, that the figures from China cannot be correct. On the other hand, the fact that they have got it under control to some extent (according to official statements) makes it even more interesting. If this is not the case, this will be very evident in the coming weeks and months.
On the other hand, you shouldn't be surprised about such news from the US. The other departments, which are not involved in the direct fight against corona, of course also want to have something to do that at least changes the perception and gives people reasons to trust the government by pointing their fingers at others. If you portray other countries in a bad way (no matter if justified or not), then this always casts a better light on your own country and crisis management.

The big issue is IF China lied about the scope and severity to a large degree, and if the WHO/etc helped mask it, it directly led to the way the western nations approached this outbreak.

The official "first" cases haven't even been adjusted in many countries in spite of reports coming out of much earlier infection times. For instance:

And confirmed by data modeling:

I am sceptical that already 10% - 50% of the population in some countries have been infected. But secretly I hope that this could somehow be true. The higher this number would be, the better, because that would be by far the best news one could hope for. The death rate and the general danger of the virus would then suddenly drop to almost zero. So a reliable antibody test cannot come fast enough.

Meanwhile in Ecuador :

Basically health system colapsed but also goverment did not pick up bodies so people are burning them or leaving them in the street...scary.

I am not an expert in this field, but I don't think it would make any difference. The virus was most likely circulating around the world as early as January. Maybe even earlier. I also do not believe that the WHO wanted or wants to cover up anything. Sometimes things are just the way they are. A fucking dangerous virus that can spread from person to person is making its rounds in a globalized world. Before you can realize something like that nowadays, it is actually always too late.

I firmly believe that this will be a huge part of the solution. Washable, reusable masks, not only to protect yourself, but mostly to prevent infected people from spreading it around.

Quoting for visibility.

No wonder the screechers got so triggered by 'Wuhan Flu'. :messenger_beaming:

I agree, I am not making claims as to the total % of a country's infection, just pointing to information (that some of us have been saying from the beginning but were shouted down) that indicates the virus has been spreading long before these official "first case" confirmations.

Heck, my childrens' pediatrician was reminding us to get our flu shot in early October "because it's supposed to be really bad this year" so I am curious if the Wuhan coronavirus simply piggybacked off the tail-end of a worse-than-normal flu season and hit the most vulnerable.

Even in Italy where almost 1000 people die daily only of coronawirus. That's double the normal deaths. Statistically, 1000 people die daily for all reasons. That's doubled now

Goddamn... I mean, that all seems very simple and straightforward, which makes me suspect it's probably closer to the truth than the wet market explanation.

China reopened the wet markets selling the very same shit they have always sold. Which also proves this is all bullshit with that smoke screen.

Day daily daily daily day. Day day , day day , daily day day.
Good day sir

shit must be getting real bad over there, not even a thread about Idaho banning trans in sports on the first page.

If they can't whine and cry about trans issues then you know that shit really hit the fan at era.

Me either, but from what we've now seen in dozens of different countries, the spread is pretty uniform. I really do not think it was spreading freely in November/December like some people think. Could there have been some cases? Maybe, I don't think it's impossible, but we've been able to follow countries when they had their first case to having thousands of cases, and it seems pretty straight forward. I just don't know that I believe that all of the early cases were asymptomatic enough to go unnoticed.

Sad.

Even sadder.

Not sure, is this an April Fools Joke?

Man... I'm really getting sick of people who just try to twist other people's words because they don't like them.

"It's possible kids could have went back to school in two weeks to four weeks, but they just cancelled the rest of the schools."

Twitter dumbfuck translates this to say, "HE WANTS SCHOOLS TO REOPEN IN 2 WEEKS!!!!"

Why can't these people process language correctly? His message is that he thinks cancelling the rest of the school year is premature when there are still over two months remaining in the school year and we do not know for sure how this is going to progress.

i mean who doesn't want this to be over with and for schools to be open in two weeks? have some god damn optimism, people.

but i know i know, BrooklynDad_Defiant, fuck optimism, nihilist cynicism is the only Truth, we have to take everyone's words with the most idiotic bad faith reading ever and pretend that context is irrelevant and history does not matter. really, our leaders should give daily briefings that read "WE ARE ALL FUCKED"

by the way, look at the wonderful work this idiot is doing. imagine building your entire career around calling somebody a baby.

Critical Theory demands you find a problem in whatever you look at, which leads to interpreting everything in the worst possible way. It completely rots your brain and turns into a vile person.

ever notice how sometimes a thing will happen at a point in history and then some new things occur due to the passage of time and then another thing happens? apparently for BrooklynDad_Defiant, all events throughout history occur simultaneously and any statements made in the past are to remain true throughout the rest of time.

pretty much bashing people for not being able to KNOW THE FUTURE.

1000's of years eating bats and rats and shit... and just now they get a virus? I feel the same.

And that was a great video. Usually the most simple explanations, are the most truthful.

Like Github! :D :P

That's classic moves from that defiant dad on twitter. He's always the first to talk shit anytime Trump says something. If you're not with him, you're against him. And he doesn't care about any bullshit he spews. Facts be damned!

edit.. sorry for double post.

This is the biggest problem with communication these days. I guess it has probably happened forever, with talk show hosts/newscasters/etc, but we're all playing a big game of telephone. Someone says something, but by the time it gets to you, it's been changed and distorted so much, it barely resembles what they said in the first place. Twitter/etc has made this easier than ever for nefarious parties to abuse, knowing that most people will just read the headline and not even both to listen to an audio clip if attached.

Hell, we see that in threads (more so in the other place than here thankfully). People comment on the thread title alone without even trying to become informed themselves.

SAD.

I started having back pain since yesterday. Feels like a muscle pain. Around the right shoulder blade. When I stretch, sit down or blow my nose and yawn. My fiancee has EXACTLY the same pain but since last week.... She's been trying yoga to some relief. temps is 36,6 so guess I am not sick ?

I think the Coronavirus is making us all Hypochondriacs. I wouldn't stress about it unless you start developing a fever and a persistent cough.

Well, if COVID really hits the sickest the hardest AND is far more widespread than we think, presumably quite a few "normal deaths" are now being attributed to COVID. So hospice patients, end stage renal failure, poor respiratory condition, etc who might have died anyway are now dying from COVID. So total deaths might go up, but not totally additive to the "normal" death rate, if that makes sense.

Perversely, we might see a LOWER death rate in years to come as lots of older/sicker folk are dying now. Though in a worse economy the death rate can often rise from that as well.

UK update 29474 (+4324) a 17.1% increase which unfortunately marks an upward spike after the trending down of the previous days (13.5, 13.7, 14.2, 17.5, 25%). Perhaps maybe a resultant of people not taking the whole quarantine thing seriously at the weekend and meeting up with their friends etc, but honestly at this juncture who knows. Of the New tests carried out (9793) 44.1% were positive that marked an increase of as well. Hopefully, %s will trend downward tomorrow, but not a good day overall given the previous days direction.

Our numbers aren't that different to Spain today - a worrying state of affairs.

I mean, there will be indirect positives that come out of this if you look at it from the perspective of survival of the fittest. Obesity rates dropping would be the one I can think of.

Italy detail update for 3/31:

I wish the website was static, but it updates every day. 10943 total cases in the count now.

0-29: 2 - x0.00 (+0)
30-39: 25 - x1.25 (+5)
40-49: 92 - x1.03 (+3)
50-59: 409 - x1.10 (+40)
60-69: 1271 - 1.09 (+109)
70-79: 3724 - x1.08 (+268)
80-89: 4366 - x1.09 (+382)
90+: 1051 - x1.12 (+112)

Again all pretty much on par with what I've been seeing along the way. Still old folks dying for the most part.

Italy detail update for 4/1:

Total deaths listed: 11857

0-29: 3 - x1.50% (+1, but was only 2 before)
30-39: 29 - x1.16 (+4)
40-49: 104 - x1.13 (+12)
50-59: 455 - x1.11 (+46)
60-69: 1367 - x1.07 (+96)
70-79: 4009 - x1.07 (+285)
80-89: 4743 - x1.08 (+377)
90+: 1145 - x1.08 (+94)

I think this is the first day where under 60 age grew was convincingly growing at a faster % than over 60 (usually it's been about even).

Due to the low numbers for the under 60 crowd though, I'd need to see at least a few sustained days of this growth to really think perhaps younger people were now actually dying faster and more often.

Will continue to monitor.

Do we know the health of the individuals <60? What % of them had underlying health issues vs. those that didn't?

I saw a chart someone posted here from NY deaths that gave that data. Is Italy keeping track of that data?

I haven't seen a site that has that data, though I am sure it's out there somewhere.
