Final Fantasy 7 Remake Spoilers Thread!

Wait.

Why are people thinking Zack is alive? Seemed to me that with how Zack carried puppet Cloud with him to midgar was the past.
I think it's Aerith's memory of what she thought would have made her life better. Long shot in the dark and a big "what if?". What if she is seeing these visions as a way to show her own internal struggle or her hope that things could have been different.

What backlash do you speak of?? Apart from the minority of forum users on Gaf and Era, there's no other backlash I've seen. Majority of the sites have praised the game and given it good scores.. What backlash do you speak of as I genuinely don't see it on other sites apart from these two forums.

I guess i've only been looking here and reddit, but I've seen more negatives than positives on the ending. To be clear, I'm talking just the ending only. I think even most who disliked the ending still had overwhelmingly positive things to say about everything that came before it. Like I hate the ending but if I had to write a review I'd still easily give the whole game a 8 or a 9. So I think the average overall response is positive from most.

But it's all anecdotal. It's very possible most liked the ending and I'm just being influenced by a negative bubble I'm seeing here right now.

Nah, there's lots of people who hated it and lots of people who liked it from what I'm seeing on social media. The game is pretty divisive as far as ending goes.

Personally I'd rate the game about 7.5-8/10 due to technical issues and that ending.

I'd be thankful if someone could give me an example of a battle in a final fantasy game that has the level of strategy they think this game lacks.
A brief description would be cool too.

If anyone can hit me up with a 4K wallpaper of Tifa

looking mighty fine in her blue dress

I would be most grateful.

Same, I'm not a fan of the ending or possible direction going forward l, but the gameplay is probably the best in the series. To me it's a more evolved version of FF13's combat. I love it. Game is a good 8/10 for me.

Has the ESRB rating changed that much? How come in crisis core when Zack dies there is tons of blood and the game is rated T but for this game no blood? Some Sephiroth scenes were robbed because of that

As to how they bring Zack into all of this, I don't know, and that obviously will have some pretty notable ramifications. I'm sure we'll have to learn Cloud's background twist earlier than we did in the original.

I'm pretty sure Zack isn't alive - not in the timeline where the game takes place, at least.

That scene seems to just set the stage that there are multiple timelines going on. Aerith has some strange connection where she can sense stuff like this, so maybe she'll be able to somehow interact with that Zack, who knows?

But for the main cast, Zack should still be dead. It is worrisome that things will get convoluted if they started focusing on several alternate universes, each specified by their own breed of Stampy.

Most SquareEnix games don't show blood. I think it's a conscious decision that has nothing to do with the game's rating. It is jarring at times, especially when someone just gets stabbed or shot to death, yet you don't see a drop of blood.

How does chapter select work? If I finish a chapter I keep everything I've collected - have to do this in one sitting (per chapter) or can you still save?

This is as bad a corridor game as FF13, with trash looking npcs, terrible lip sync, trashy boring side quests. But of course nostalgia goggles are boosting all the review scores.

Can anyone confirm for me if the original game had cloud dressing up in drag and dancing with a flamboyant man on stage? Honestly dont remember.

So rewatching it all, Providing two timelines is a plot point, my thinking is that Zack's timeline is gonna play out like the Laguna sections in FF8 and you communicate/something via the flowers Switching to him every now and again (Remember that the flowers talk to Aerith an say things that sound like things Zack would say"Good work today", of course it's lifestream Zack till they change time) the reason Biggs is alive is because he is in Zacks timeline where he was aroud to help out during the pillar incident and being a real SOLDIER 1st class he proves to be more useful than Cloud was and saves them.

Now ask yourself this, With zack being around in some form, do you think he would let Aerith die?
My big brain prediction is Zack will sacrifice himself somehow in his time to save Aerith. With Zack around in some form I just can't see Aerith Croaking it. He will still get his "Hey, would you say I became a hero? ?" moment.

and it just dawned on me that Hojo mentions JENOVA-projects G and S.......Genesis confirmed? :messenger_hushed::messenger_fearful:

I've had time to mull it over and honestly I still think this is a redefining experience of what a remake can be. I think it's one of my favorite games of the generation. Despite that, god I'm disappointed in a few things...

I hate how post game is set up, sure it's cool you can chapter swap at any time, but man, why are the new battles in the arena locked to hard mode? This alone wouldn't be so bad, but charging 500 gil per battle kinda sucks, you could easily run out if you suck like I do. The game's overall structure isn't conducive to easy grinding like most FF games. I was super hyped to find out you could new game+ in hard mode, but the MP/item restriction just seems stupid. Kingdom Hearts' critical mode is super well balanced without these dumbass restrictions, a hard mode should push you to smartly utilize all of the game's mechanics, not remove certain mechanics for artificial difficulty. I really hope they add an in-between mode between Normal and Hard. I also wish I could get two Magnify Materia. Also why did they forget the exchange all button from the OG game? Swapping high level materia between characters was harder than it needed to be.

That's all incredibly minor stuff though, the amount of joy I got from this game was unmatched by pretty much any other game this generation. Bravo Square.

On a positive note
Hoooooly shit The Arsenal Boss with Barret and Aerith, that was amazing with an amazing boss theme remix.

Shit. I meant to post this in the OT. Whoops

I could give several but even just looking at the original FF7 which had mostly trash fights that required no thought you still had the battles with Ruby and Emerald.

None of their action combat systems require any effort especially FFXIII which basically had you following a simple flowchart the whole time.

The primary problem with older fantasies was that there were usually ways to break the combat but the better games did provide encounters that required strategy to counter various gimmicks and patterns.

Hell, the optional stuff in X-2 smokes anything you're going to run into in these new games.

I think this game requires on average at least as much thinking as the older ones, but generally a bit more. The problem is that this game doesn't really have much endgame optional battles to strain yourself on.

Emerald was hard because of Air Tam Storm, meaning you had to limit your materia. Ruby was just hard. The thing though is that in every FF game, you can generally get so overpowered that you can ignore boss mechanics entirely. KotR / Mimic Limit completely invalidates pretty much everything in FF7, Lionheart +Aura in FF8 (or just Zell in particular).

Final Fantasy X and XII is probably the only game in the series i think that really makes you rethink strategies going into each of the endgame fights, but even in those fights, they're invalidated by just making your characters more and more broken.

Even the FFX-2 endgame bosses have ONE general gimmick that lets you beat them. The Black Elemental that drops Cat Nip is pretty much the last thing to worry about -- after that you just Cat Nip + Trigger Happy your way to victory, generally.

FF7R has the capacity though to definitely be the best system as far as combat goes. Fights like Rufus/Reno/Sephiroth are fights that are ONLY really possible in VIIR's engine.

The only thing the sequels need to fix are some enemies just going ham on whomever you're controlling. It's a really annoying way to fights hard.

The Last of Us Remake for the PS8, work on it for five years, charge 60 Emperor Barron Bucks for it, then you get it home and 30 hours later you realize it only covered the portion of the game before the timeskip and padded it out with Joel doing Uber Eats deliveries for his neighbors.

Did anyone else think for a brief moment that the Angel of The Slums was gonna somehow be Yuffie?
Was thinking "Nahhhh, they wouldn't do that, surely....Would they?" lol
I'm looking forward to her interacting with Yuffie hopefully at some point though.
They seem like they would lock horns right away. lol

Nope, it seemed cliche that it would end up being that same lady, and it lo and behold it was.

omfg, Hell House on hard is fucking bananas.

Magic destroys him, make sure you assess him to know he's weaknesses and the fight is easier, you can also notice what he's weak against by the colour of he's windows. Have 2 elemental magics on cloud, 2 on aries. Just use clouds triple strike on the tonberrys. I kept reading he was hard, I skipt the chapter till chapter 13 then came back to it, beat him first time.

I actually already beat him, but thanks. What made it extra difficult was that I went into the fight at only 15% MP with Aerith so I had to make sure I used Soul Drain on the first couple of staggers.

I also started that chapter as the very first attempt at hard mode because I wanted to complete the colosseum trials to unlock the last Shinra simulator trial, so I might have been under leveled for the fight.

My game plan was basically the same, although I tried to take out the tonberries with a punisher combo so that I could save ATB. If they were still alive then I'd use a triple strike as a last resort so they don't OHKO me.

Bahamut ultimately saved me in the end. I was on the last phase, it was my 6th attempt, and mega flare did enough damage to kill. I probably should have relied on the summon earlier.

Do I have to make all sidequests again in the Hard Mode to get the extra 2 quests?
No. If your game is like mine, then those 2 quests are in Wall Market the first time you are there. In order to do those, you just ignore Johnny completely and avoid doing his discovery quest.

I haven't checked yet, but are there hard versions of the VR summon battles? When I went to look at them, I still had the green checkmark next to them but maybe I have to dig deeper to find that option.

This chapter selection thing, there's no exploration, but I guess it's just a consequence of how the game is structured. It just doesn't make me want to do it all over again, at least not after putting 40+ hours into it. Maybe I'll try hard mode in the future.

No exploration? You already explored the game the first time around didn't you? This is a quality of life feature so that you don't have to play the entire thing over again just so you can grab a couple quests you missed in chapter 14 or whatever.

If you want a New Game + experience, just start from chapter one and play the whole thing again. Or, do it on hard mode for a different and more challenging experience.

There was just so much padding that took away from the overall experience for me. The pacing of the game was an absolute mess in my opinion. I felt like you could really tell what was content from the original game vs stuff added to make the remake hours as padded as possible. At some points it just felt like an absolute SLOG to get through.

The plate crushing scene was awesome until out of fucking nowhere Cait Sith. WHY? My SO was watching me play through the game and was so fucking confused "What the fuck is that cat thing?" It absolutely ruined the scene for me.

Also way to not actually kill biggs wedge and jessie. What the fuck is the point? Their death is supposed to have meaning. Barret going on about holding that hate and all that- what great scene- oh wait they're not actually dead, nevermind I guess! What a joke. What idiot thought that made ANY sense to do.

I just don't get it. I walk away with extremely mixed feelings on this release. The above two things are just part of a laundry list of shit that just didn't make sense to me. Feels like they just wanted to release something and rake in the cash. Call me when I can actually play the whole remake in 10 years.
