Absolutely true. I took me a long time to realize the "SJWs" were just as bad as the tea party types and even further right groups. I always found them annoying, they just didn't offend me as I agree with most of their general views outside the very extreme ones. I just can't stand how they go about it with the dog piling, cancel culture nonsense etc. Where as with the same types on the right I'm both annoyed by many of their actions and find many of their views offensive.

Thus I left Era and similar and largely just stay the fuck away from most political/social issue things online as I have no use for the extremists on either side and those are the loudest and most frequent voices/posters these days. Probably because they've driven regular people, like myself, to just stop giving much of a shit and to just focus on living our lives and letting other people worry about the world's problems.

The problem with extremism is that it just diminishes people (or a whole group of people) without factoring in that there are legitimate reasons for why anyone might hold a particular viewpoint.

Just because we don't see things from the same angle doesn't mean that we should not afford respect to those with whom we differ, no matter the issue.

We're all people, and we need each other. Human culture functions as a complex organism, and we're all better off because of communal input and contributions.

Until we return to valuing each other simply as fellow members of humanity first and foremost, we'll continue to be our own worst enemies.

February. There is no doubt COVID was here then.

But how can you compare Feb to anything else when the testing wasn't done nearly as often? CDC says there were 35 cases by the end of that month. There could have been 3500 or 35000 with the long incubation. You're using a massive unknown to flagship your point.

A balance between regulation/law (admittedly) and the free market. Look no further than China and Russia before they adopted capitalist principles.

I'm not sure how the free market will be helpful in terms of enforcing safety for workers. Should we come out of lockdown before coronavirus is finished workers must be protected. It'd be like sending a construction worker to a building site without a hardhat or any other protective gear. With unemployment on the rise; this doesn't put workers on a good footing to negotiate nor can they leave and find another job. Ideally, I wouldn't want unions involved.

Does anyone on here know any one who has tested positive or who has died from corona

I've had it.

Consumer pressure - simple. So if you go to a supermarket and see the staff aren't properly protected, shop elsewhere. Indeed that is happening here in the UK.

Consumer pressure - simple. So if you go to a supermarket and see the staff aren't properly protected, shop elsewhere. Indeed that is happening here in the UK.

That definitely helps. But some consumers have limited options. i.e. City folk that walk to shop and only have a single grocery store in range can't as easily go elsewhere if workers at that store aren't provided masks or if they are violating social distancing as those of us with cars can. Also, many just don't care as people are going back to get their hair and nails done in GA today which clearly isn't essential or worth risking exposing oneself or employees IMO.

In any case, it's definitely been a terrible situation to put these workers in. We have crappy worker protection rights in the states so these grocery store employees have been forced to either go to work without masks (I've only recently started seeing most employees have masks/coverings at my local one and we've been in shelter at home for a month) or get fired and be ineligible for unemployment payments if they refuse (can only get those if you're laid off/furloughed, not if you're fired for cause for not showing up). It's extra bad here as it's driving the trend of blacks being very over-represented in cases and deaths as they're the vast majority of employees in super markets etc. I've not seen a single white employee at my local grocery store since this started. There were a couple older (late 50s probably) white women working the registers pretty often before, haven't seen them so I guess they had the luxury of having the money to just quit.

That said, grocery stores need to be open and masks etc. have to be prioritized for medical personnel given the shortage. So I'm not saying much could have been done differently. I just really feel bad for these people with no choice but to risk exposure or have no income and wish we had better worker safety and livelihood protections here in the US. At the very least, people who have, or live with someone who has, a high risk of dying from this due to age, pre-existing conditions etc. should be allowed to not work and stay on unemployment until it's safe even if they worked at a grocery store etc. that's essential business. Stores can easily hire low-risk people in temp roles to fill in. They already have hired a lot of temps to help with all the extra stocking since things have been flying off shelves as people horde--have still only seen toilet paper or paper towels once (same day) in the 6 or so times I've gone.

I hate what's going on in the UK but I can't understand why people are putting the US to trial in terms of numbers, when they have more people per state than entire European countries and the breakdown is low.

Great video.

2 doctors get questions from reporters. One group is using their own data, expertise and experience to make a conclusion. The other just repeats what they heard from the "authorities"

Here is a brief summary:

This message is quite educational. The doctors presenting the material state that their goal is to present the science and follow the numbers. Their data is from the CDC and WHO, and their anecdotal accounts are from their daily experience in California as medical doctors. They clearly state that their goal is not to assign blame or decide who is right and wrong but simply to present the data and extrapolate that data. Here are a few takeaways...listen if you can.

The pattern of COVID-19 is millions affected, small amount of death. Every death is of course tragic and significant. We want the goal to be zero deaths.

In California, you have a 0.03 chance of dying from COVID-19. If you contract the illness you have a 96% chance of recovering with no continued health complications from contracting the virus.

In New York, you have a 0.1 chance of dying from COVID-19. If you contract the illness you have a 92% chance of recovering with no continued health complications from contracting the virus.

We have no studies to indicate what happens when we quarantine healthy people. In every other major outbreak of illness, it is only the sick who have been quarantined.

We do, however, know what happens to our immune system when it is unable to come into contact with viruses and bacteria. Our immune system drops/decreases. The way we build immunity is to be exposed to germs. This means that the longer the healthy are quarantined, not being exposed to "normal" pathogens, the weaker the immune system becomes. Additionally we know that Americans are reporting taking extra or new steps to disinfect their homes (repeatedly wiping down countertops, washing hands when they haven't traveled outside of their home, etc) What will happen when we are released from quarantine? Science dictates that the incidence of disease will rise (all sorts of diseases, viruses, colds, flus, etc). This is of grave concern considering that many hospitals are not operating at full staffing.

Here are some other considerations raised by the doctors...

1. Incidences of suicide, spousal abuse, molestation and suicide are rising daily.
2. Patients with other non-related health conditions are reporting that they fear going to the hospital or to their doctor for fear of contracting COVID-19. Patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, etc are not being seen regularly like they normally do and should.
3. People with life-threatening illnesses are waiting to seek treatment (think chest pain/heart attack symptoms) because they fear contracting COVID; are intimidated by what they need to do to correctly seek treatment (gloves, masks, distancing, etc); and/or they don't want to overwhelm their local medical team because they are being told that hospitals do not have the capacity to treat them.
4. The doctors also mention the economic devastation that we know is happening.

Moving into their opinions based on the science....

1. There is no scientific reason to impede Americans' constitutional rights (their science basis is how similar COVID-19 is to the seasonal flu).
2. They believe the instances of alcoholism, child abuse, etc (as mentioned above) are a far more serious threat to the health and well being of the American public because these conditions create a lifetime of devastation, a lifetime of repercussions as opposed to the temporary condition of COVID-19. This of course does not account for deaths due to COVID-19.
3. Should we reopen stores? "emphatically yes"
4. Do we need to shelter in place? "emphatically no"
5. Do we need to continue testing? yes
6. We need to quarantine the sick, not the healthy.
7. We need to get our doctors and nurses back to work so they are ready to handle the influx of illness that our society is going to see.
8. These docs are not wearing masks or gloves. Why? They, as healthy people currently, believe that exposure to germs is good and healthy.
9. If we don't lift the ban, why not? There is no data to support continuing the ban.
10. Inconsistencies abound. There is no science to support big businesses being open and small businesses being closed.
11. Schools and other large venue areas should slowly begin to reopen immediately.
12. This will mutate and becomes less virulent.
13. Their opinion is that many deaths being reported as a result of COVID-19 are not actually due to COVID-19. Instead, the patient had an underlying condition, such as COPD or heart disease. There were "co-morbidity" factors attributed to the death. COVID-19 alone did not kill the patient.”

Still sick getting worst by the day, I know for sure it is a chest infection. I have a long history of those so it might not even be Covid19 but my anxiety is sky high. In this area my chances are good for getting infected. I might not survive this shit chest infections and Sickle Cell can take me out easy when mixed.

Whatever the case is, I need to survive until Tueday night. After that I should be able to check myself into a hospital for whatever this is I am dealing with.

If I go sooner I will not survive not having the money I am about to lose if I miss out on this art project set up had too many cancelled projects already.

This is what I've been saying for a while now. How do we know anyone is truly cured at this point, if they just test positive over and over?

It's about test sensitivity and it taking real long to get rid of it completely.

Pennsylvania has corrected its coronavirus data multiple times over the past week to account for irregularities, according to new reports.

Earlier this week, Pennsylvania started to include “probable deaths” in its fatalities. As a result, the total number of coronavirus deaths grew by 276, then 360, in successive nights, almost doubling the number of deaths in the state in two days. The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) subsequently removed 200 deaths from its count after facing mounting questions about the accuracy of the count.

I have a fuck money attitude but shit has been bad for a long time, some of the best projects I've ever been offered came at the worst time.

Oh well I contacted my doctor due to having Sickle Cell I can't just go to just any hospital because once infected it will trigger a painful Sickle Cell crisis

Anyway my doctor knows will be tested soon

"Trump Encourages People to Break Stay at Home Orders by Depriving Them of Their Daily Entertainment"

The injecting stuff backfired on him due to the media.

He needs to put a muzzle on himself while this blows over.

Its a shame the media latched onto it instead of the bigger story of direct sunlight killing the virus within minutes.

I mean... he does. Dr. Birx or Dr. Fauci or the surgeon general are usually in these briefings fielding questions directly.

Navy wants to reinstate fired captain of coronavirus-hit aircraft carrier, sources say

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In an extraordinary reversal, the U.S. Navy has recommended reinstating the fired captain of the coronavirus-hit aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, whose crew hailed him as a hero willing to risk his job to safeguard his sailors, officials said on Friday.

The Navy’s leadership made the recommendation to reinstate Captain Brett Crozier to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday, just three weeks after Crozier was relieved of command after the leak of a letter he wrote calling on the Navy for stronger measures, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Pentagon issued a statement acknowledging Esper received the results of the Navy’s preliminary inquiry into the Roosevelt incident. But it added that Esper wanted to review a written copy of the completed inquiry.

Suggesting no decision was imminent, the statement said Esper then “intends to thoroughly review the report and will meet again with Navy leadership to discuss next steps.” The Navy said in a statement “no final decisions have been made.”

I agree most of the things this guy pulled out. However,

Here is a brief summary:

In New York, you have a 0.1 chance of dying from COVID-19. If you contract the illness you have a 92% chance of recovering with no continued health complications from contracting the virus.
This sounds exactly like a CCP propaganda: "only the old and weak 5 percent will die". While we live in a society progressed so much in science and morality so that we don't have make "pull the lever, trolley kills 1 people, ignore it, trolley kills 5 people" kinda barbaric and morally dilemmatic choices.

This will mutate and becomes less virulent.
For a stable RNA virus, this is misinforming people. The most prominent example is HIV. For DNA virus, this is true to some extent.
