There are many games that look better than hellblade. Can't deny that. But that was one example, that looks better than uncharted, and it does.

Money, time and focus on hardware OP.
Other multiplat series simply can't get away with postponing release and they also can't fully focus on a single piece of hardware. Gears and Forza are the best looking Xbox games, Uncharted and God of War are the best looking Playstation games while Mario and Kart are the best looking Nintendo games. Well, they will at least be in the conversation.
How long have you been gaming that you don't know that?
Only exception to the rule is Rockstar but they:
a) release like 2 games per decade = time factor
b) know that they will recoup the invested time and money
c) GTA/RDR release on consoles first, which gives them time to work on the PC version
Nobody can and should expect games like AssCreed, FIFA or Call of Duty to match that quality because they release frequently and on all platforms on the same day,

The Gears 5 faces look good but there's a lack of emotive quality to them in-game, also their bodies are still ridiculous, Gears 5 was inconsistent as fuck visually, some parts were gorgeous and others looked so basic and drab and without good detail.

If you asked any person on the street what the photos of rdr2, gears and hellblade look like they'd say a video game character
If you showed them the image below, they could easily mistake it for a real person at first glance.

Looks really nice from what you can tell, even with the awful compression. It's probably even on base ps4, ND can do similar graphics and have proved their selves with U4.
Not mind blowing or anything, but if they incorporate all of the awesome physics that U4 did along with those graphics, it will be really fun messing around in the environments during fire fights. I think that's something people forget about in U4. LOTS of destructibles, you can shoot chunks of concrete off columns, sand out of sand bags, a lot of objects have very credible physics.
Take RDR2 which looks great, but the object physics are basically non-existent. The gameplay and gunplay would have been so much more visceral and intense if tables, chairs, bars, doors, porch posts, etc would have been destructible. Or if shelves could have been broken causing whatever they had been holding to come tumbling down. R* almost did something really neat with fire but it was half baked (no pun intended).
RDR2, TLOU2, Horizon ZD, all games that are pushing very aging hardware to it's limits (even Driveclub did). Physics are the future of next-gen to me. Will they utilize it? Probably not.

Good points, actually - ND really just has one set of hardware to accommodate. Though, it seems, if you treat people like disposable machines, anything is possible. And that isn't just on Naughty Dog, either.

1. Cutscenes graphics are irrevelant since they are downgraded in gameplay.
2. This video is even worse since its not even part of the game. Its not even running real time on PS4.
You could say its something like target render (which final game failed to match).
3. Yes, for the most part U4 is beautifull game. And it doesnt need to be defended by target renders or cutscenes.
Turks shots show it very well.
4. Funny thing is that all those people posting U4 screens/videos disprove point of this thread since they are usually looking on par or better than what was shown in TLOU2 xD

Haha, it was just a joke. And yes anytime you play a basic 3rd party title and then jump to an exclusive 1st party game, I ask that question.
I remember playing Far Cry 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn back to back. When I saw HZD for the first time in comparison to FC5 I was like "WTF?! Did my PS4 turn into a PS5 over night or what?!"
These prestige, top tier studios can get away with murder, yet there will always be people standing in line to work for them.
If it says in your CV that you worked on CoD, Madden, GTA 5 or Uncharted 4 it's just a lot better career-wise than "I designed all the trucks in Farming Simulator 2019" or "I worked on the 3D animations for a toothpaste commercial".
So not only can these studios hire more people, they can also hire better people and work them harder than smaller studios.
That said, let's not act like consumers (me included) really care.
Yeah, I feel bad for the devs that do crunch for weeks but the moment I see bad textures or experience a bug, I get pissed.
Kinda like people feel bad about sweatshops in Bangladesh but also love a good deal on Nike sneakers lol

As for what could have kept TLOU2 from vastly outclassing it, it could be the 70% employee turnover. Still it looks pretty good.

MS was great at its time, especially the vehicle destruction was impressive, I give you that, , but UC1 was nothing special technically, and HS, as much as I loved the game, had serious framerate issues, it was basically sub-30FPS game, so not a good example.

How many polygons does the main character have in uncharted again?? Senua still looks better, especially the details in her face. Call the mods, report me if you want, as I'm doing nothing wrong here. Especially since I'm comparing a ps4 to ps4 game. What fucking irony right?! Wanna know another fact?! I enjoyed the game, Uncharted more than hellblade, but Senua still looks better than Nathan.

Trust me, I'm not hiding behind a bias or have any ulterior motives here. I really love when devs give special attention to characters, so I figured this would be an interesting thread. Forgive me in advance, but I really enjoyed For Honor. Have several hundred hours on the game, and one thing that blew my mind was the attention to detail the devs gave the heroes. When running up or down the stairs, the characters would look down at their feet, the animations were very smooth, and best of all, there was plenty of salt in every match.

Platforming and solving puzzles are gameplay.
As a whole Uncharted 2 has far more of that than Uncharted 4. I am pretty sure I didn't say those were not gameplay. 4 is very story driven which while I enjoy I love the gameplay in 4 and prefer the ratio of the rest far more. Lost Legacy helped with that quite a bit.

Naughty Dog games are sort of like racing games in the sense that theres very little world that has to be rendered. Games dont get any more linear than a Naughty Dog games, other than side-scrollers
