I Am Legend Alternate Ending

What happened with the original ending I kinda forgot?

I just remember that girl escaped and wound up at some quarantine zone??

I just remember it missing the point of the book and this one kinda seems the same.

If I remember correctly, he locked her in the escape hatch and went down shooting.

This movie messed me up with the dog scene. :/

I don't think the alternate ending is good ether. Those things were over the top aggressive the whole movie even beating on each other and were supposed to believe they wouldn't tear him apart the moment he walked out.
Makes no sense.

In the OG ending his house gets stormed right as he discovers the cure and sacrifices himself to let the lady and kid escape with a vial. It's basically "good guy sacrifice against the horde of motiveless boogeymen." It kinda spits in the face of the short story.

IMO this alternate ending is more faithful, as in this ending Neville realizes they are only after the female vampire he's experimenting on, the "wife" of the vampire alpha, and to them HE is the monster, he is their boogeyman. Hence, "I Am Legend." To them, he's the bad guy.

book was dear to me, movie too

hope we get a better adaptation down the line, replete with discussions between shackled robert and his fallen vampire comrades

I remember watching this at the movies but don't remember too many details except for the main plot points.
I have to watch this again

To add one more thing to this, apparently this alternate, more faithful ending was going to be the theatrical release but test audiences hated it, like apparently they REALLY hated it, so it was changed to the cookie cutter "good guy good, bad guys bad" ending we got.

He put her in the escape hatch, pulled the ring of a grenade the moment they came in and went down in an explosion

I think people assume the movie was about mankind's last stand against a zombie horde.

It really wasn't, but man the core ideas were lost in translation between the book and the screenplay.

In the book wasn't he the monster? Like they were the new normal and he was the one taking them and doing experiments and killing them by the thousands? anywho in this ending it seems like they tried to humanize them by having them not tear him up after they got the chic..I can see why they scrapped it . Maybe if the movie played up to this by having them have some kind of human behavior but even he himself said "all human behavior is now absent " as is though it doesn't make sense

more or less, yeah

Whole film turns to shit once other hyoomuns appear so w/e.
The zombies were the worst part. The movie is okay when it's just Will Smith on his own doing day-to-day stuff accompanied by his dog. As soon as the zombies show up the movie mostly turns to shit. Lost some respect for Mike Patton due to this movie.

Better ending, but still nothing on the original book.

In fact, the whole film takes a giant dump on the fantastic and haunting classic novel.

There is a reason why the boom is called I Am Legend. A reason that the film completely misses.

Can we get a new film that closely follows the book please?
