We need to continue to social distance, take precautions, take particular care of the elderly and other at risks... but otherwise, disease is a part of of life. People are tired of forgoing livelihoods because you are scared.

In a country where healthcare is beyond the means of most, yes it is a life-threatening risk until the virus is quashed.

While I disagree with the video game = bad speech, exposing very young kids to video games or all type of screen activities is being more and more linked to disorders such as adhd. So while the video games aren't the problem itself, the screen and high stimulus it gives to the child might be the problem.
Now here is the real problem: 60% of young child suicides have a disorder such as adhd. The others are more commonly linked to depression.
People who suffer from ADHD have a high impulsivity reaction, that with low self esteem and overreacting can lead to disaster for your kids who do not see the move as a final result. This is why it's such a concern for young kids and anyone saying their parents should of seen it coming are being very judgemental and disgusting. And blaming video games is also quite ridiculous.

I think you can't Model like this. In "normal" instances it could be possible but just a visit by that dude in a packed Stadium/Arena could mean he'd infect hundres of people in one day alone.
Germany had 0 cases on February 24, then bum carnival and the numbers skyroccketed. Combine that with a big Football game in the city of one of the Hotspots and you get what i call a biological bomb.
Also all of this would not explain, why the ICU capacity in Italy was suddenly beyond a limit and they had to Triage patients. A longer and slower infection that you indicate by saying the Virus was there months before, would mean they would have been prepared even better. Also Holidays like Christmas and NYE where the whole family is together would mean a lot of grandparents would have been in contact with the virus by now.
Numbers in Italy "indicate", that thats not the case. Let's take a look at Bergamo. One of the worst hit Cities in Italy. If The Virus was there since December, we would have seen a little Spike by January. If not in January, than at least in February.

Thanks for this - there is a scenario (and I think the plausibility is debatable, but merits consideration) is that the infectivity is super high but the death rate is far lower than what even the Heinsberg study is indicating (ie. not a slow infection). For quite a few weeks, this scenario does allow COVID deaths to be hidden within statistical noise or even a milder flu season. I'm not claiming that this is how the virus behaves - rather that the numbers do work out with some very crude mathematics.
While one could argue that the "we're seeing 10-25% of population having contracted the virus" studies are flawed in design, I don't think they should be dismissed outright - personally I think there is merit in continued investigation.
Usually a pandemic is like an iceberg - what you see tends to be a small portion of reality. The larger the asymptomatic / weakly symptomatic group is, the larger the underwater portion is. While one could argue that we don't know how many folks are dying without knowing they had COVID, with the scrutiny that was placed on pneumonia like deaths, the non-visible portion of undetected COVID+ deaths likely skewed lower than COVID+ asymptomatic cases.
In all honesty, the investigation into this I think is critical on a societal level - much of our reaction and viewpoints are based on worst-case scenarios and what Bill Maher coins "panic porn". It may turn out to not be the case, but if it does turn out to be true, it becomes a very strong weapon in calming society down.

Naw, sounds reasonable to me. I do not envy teachers right now. Kids are moving germ sponges at the best of times. Over here they want to reopen schools...but don't worry, in order to maintain social distancing they're limiting classrooms to 40 kids. 40 kids. Someone show me an average classroom that can hold 40 kids with 6 feet between each of them. The feedback from the teaching community can be summed up as "lol you're nuts". There's going to be a standoff on that front.
I don't think there's any state in the country that has an equivalent monster to the California Teachers Union. They literally run the state.

I see a lot of dead people on that. Only whats essential should be open until the vaccine is released. I can see the data and its a very bleak picture; Germany is already having a second spike from reopening despite Germany having an educated population compared to the US.
Distancing and Masks/Full PPE is a start. You still need to avoid unneeded places like Bars, Concerts, Parks, Gyms, COMPLETELY.

So today the Board of Cosmetology in CA sent a letter to everyone with a license threatening them to abide by Emperor Newsom's edicts or they will revoke their licenses. It is exactly that. We're all gonna get SARS-COV2 at some point. The quarantines exist so that when (not if) we contract the virus, we could be sure there will be an ICU bed available if/when we need it.
But it seems people can't understand that one simple concept: solidarity.
Italy, Spain, UK and NYC have had all those deaths because their health systems collapsed and couldn't treat everyone that got infected.
