Seems like an odd choice for a pre-recorded event. All most like a built in excuse to say, "oh but they will look better in their native resolution". I'm just expecting to see sub 3sec loading and fast transversal scenes all over the place or I'm #lazydevs.

A little disappointing but not even close to bothersome. Most of the games shown will have 4K uploads shortly afterwards I presume.

Personally no it doesn't but i do hope they release a better quality version of the event later on.

I'm curious what do you guys think? Is the 30fps bit excusable for a show that is supposed to show us the "future of gaming"?
No. It bothers me that someone created a thread asking whether people were bothered by it. It also bothers me that I wasted time typing this.

What have I BECOME?!!!!!!!!!!!

So funny, BluRay quality no longer good enough for some chumps!

Output resolution/framerate matter less than the IQ and content of the source footage. End of.

Time moves on, bud.

Likewise, since when was a streaming video, with YouTube's bitrate at 1080p, ever a fourth as good as a native Blu-Ray experience?

No matter how good the source material is, under those conditions, you're going to lose detail, and a lot of it. Guess what next-gen leaps, at this point, tend to be all about?

Tbh, just waiting for the trailers seems to be the way to go. Watching the Xbox execs be fake and annoying on theirs, reminded me that even in an abbreviated Corona-friendly form, I absolutely hate the format of E3-style shows.

Less annoying. 4K Quality. 60 FPS. What do you have to lose, besides being the first to see it?

Yes because they're showing the games off in a way that is sub-optimal and frankly seems lazy - their excuse is bullshit. Go all out and upload the whole video in 4K ffs. They're half-assing it in the same way I criticised MS for half-assing their 3rd party video they put out.

Does it bother you that you have to watch only at 1080p 30fps from your phone, or TV, or PC or Tablet, on the bed, the couch, the bus, the toilet and it is live for the whole world?

I guess the quarantine is boring many GAF users.

Someone said earlier that this is a YouTube restriction, though. I can't confirm but thinking back, live streams on YT have always been a bit busted, and I tend to believe it.

To me, next gen is not about resolution and framerate, it is about richer experiences, more interactions, more characters and more possibilities.
We have to see the increase of quality regardelss of resolution, otherwise, this would not be a different generation.
Besides, this will allow for some games to be shown at less than 60fps and less than 4K resolution.
Why is there a consesnsus that next gen will have all games running at 60fps or more? Developers can still chose more detail, more npcs, richer worlds and physics over framerate whenever they see fit. We could have 60fps games in PS1 and Saturn if we wanted but the quality, size and detail of the games would have been reduced. Idon't see how this will change now.

I typically watch big reveals any way I can. I watched the PS4 launch from my iPhone 4S. I listened to MS E3 last year with iPod earphones on while mowing the grass. If I'm at work (which I will be) for this, then my phone will have to do. I don't exactly have a 4K TV to watch it on afterwords. I typically save the enjoyment for when I own the games.

Was we expecting the show to be 60fps
I mean it's great for games and I'm sure they'll upload them 4k@60fps
But a presentation with soap opera effect is the last thing they want lol

to me that tells me they're trying to keep channels like Digital Foundry and NXGamer NXGamer from analyzing the stream too much.
because I want to bet almost none of the games shown will run at 4k60, so broadcasting at 1080p30 avoids that whole conversation for another few months

YouTube's fod awful image quality at 1080p also masks a lot, that could be a factor as well

Lol all the trailers will be posted immediately on their channel at 4k as confirmed by them. They literally have to wait 60 minutes and then they can do analysis

No. I'm here for graphical fidelity, lighting, effects, and high quality polygons. Framerate is great, but I want photorealism this gen. I was falsely led to believe we'd get it on PS3, and then again on PS4 (almost there). This surely has to be the gen they get to it. A 30 fps stream isn't going to kill that revelation if they show it.

Haha photo realism needs 40 tf . Ps6 pro/ps7 bud. Another 2 gen for u

then why the fuck is the stream 1080p?
it makes even less sense if that's the case, because YouTube's 1080p is absolutely utter garbage.

Because apparently one or 2 devs couldn't capture 4k and send it to them due to work from home for 4 months now(either the capture card or upload internet or for many other reasons ) .the rest did. They dont want to make the stream switch from 4k to 1080 for few games and they want level playing field for everyone . Right after all will be posted in native resolution submitted by the devs . So we will know how many devs submitted 4k and how many submitted 1080 .

If this is true, yes, that would fucking annoy me.
Every little stupid youtube channel has a 1080@60 camera but Sony can't do the same?

That's a joke.

No, its just a video presentation. I dont recall any e3 prior being higher than 1080p/30fps either. (Not like i have the bandwidth to watch 4k/60fps for a solid hour to begin with...)

I can't see any reason to be annoyed, it's just a video stream, actually I'm happy because my connection is not very performing

Give me power point slides and I'll be happy at this point. There will be plenty of time later this year for 4K streams.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Yeah... no.

Have you considered that encoding at the authoring end for 1080p/30 will result in better IQ than outputting at higher res/framerate and expecting it to be rescaled/timesliced on the fly by the streaming service and the user client?

See, the goal for Sony is to make the presentation as good as possible for as large an audience as possible, including people with limited bandwidth/data-caps, and on displays/systems that don't support 4k natively.

It doesn't matter AT ALL. YT's compression algorithm rips it to shreds and it's particularly bad with games. With the bitrate limit they set for 1080p it looks like garbage PERIOD
Blu Ray quality my ass.

Doesn't rebut anything I said. Go be an angry idiot at somebody else.
