Are Sony games/exclusives the flag bearers of Ray-tracing for this coming generation?

As someone else posted somewhere else, it was Redtech that told Moores law about the 38CUs.

Cerny talked about if future PC RDNA GPU designs see features that we put in Ps5, then we have been successful with our collaboration with AMD - why would he say that ?

Did he mention RDNA3? Because if he did, there wouldn't be this speculation, since that would be a fact. So correct me if I'm wrong, it would be much appreciated if you could post the excerpt in which he mentioned features from RDNA3.

Cerny did his talk, the talk Sony wanted him to do, and that's it. I'm not saying he's a liar, but the didn't disclose any insightful information other than how fast their SSD solution was, and he focused really hard on that, if RDNA3 features are implemented he would have talked about them too, there's no need to hide features to shock your customers/viewers.

Sony fans getting too cocky over MS showing games way too early and clearly not ready to be shown.

XSX future will be bright with Avowed, SoD 3, Forza, Hellblade2, The Initiatives new game, Fable, etc...

I did a quick Google search for RedGamingTech and it seems he's blown a lot of hot air such as claiming Navi would be delayed until October 2019 or that Navi 20(whatever that is) would support ray tracing.

Is he credible?

I have no idea about either YouTuber tbh. I'm not a PC guy. Surely there's some PCMRers that can let us know the level of these 2.

Eh, most of his videos are speculative pieces. He does appear to have more knowledge than the typical armchair dev'n on forums.

Yes I agree, Spider-man Miles Morales is the flag bearer of next gen and ray tracing. You forgot Sackboy.
 
I haven't seem much in terms of RT for the ps5, which is also because we haven't seem a whole lot for it aside from very few gameplays and a bunch of trailers.

Minecraft RT is still the flagbearer imho, no other game so far did a better job of showcasing it

Meh. I think that game looks good too actually and I want to learn more about it. But BMI just has a wow factor visually and in terms of fidelity that I hope becomes a standard for next-gen (with even better to follow).

Don't get me wrong, RT will become a widely available feature thanks to the upcoming consoles, but we already saw how gimped it has to be in order to run, even at 30FPS, so obviously the consoles are not where you should look at when searching for great RT effects. Half if not more games showed so far don't even have any sort of RT effects at all, and I think that will be the case throughout entire upcoming generation.

I don't think it can be argued that monster graphic cards from both Nvidia and AMD (found only on PC rigs) will be the the place you'll find the most complete showcase of the technology. However, it's Sony's first party exclusives (through sheer numbers), that are pushing the envelope and raising gamer expectations of what to expect as a standard next-gen. This in turn raises expectations for what third party publishers must aspire to ship with their titles (else feel the wrath of consumers). We all know if left with no market pressure (in essence peer pressure in the gaming world), the big third party publishers will be happy to stagnate and profit and won't take advantage of the power of those high-end graphic cards (as many do today). You only see isolated cases. When a console manufacturer goes all-in with their exclusives and studios, it creates a snowball effect hard to avoid getting tangled with (specially a market leader like Sony). That's is the point.

I agree with you that ray tracing will be dominate in the PC space, but for the masses and 600$ budget, the consoles will provide enough RT to keep them happy.

I never mentioned any Playstation studios. As far as I know only Guerrilla have shown a game for next gen (that you listed), I assume that is coming 2021, not sure if that was confirmed though.

For sure, I don't think people in general will care. The approximate techniques are just so good, it's not gonna matter for 99% of ppl.
 
Using it for reflections is low hanging fruit even more so when you culling/omitting objects to be reflected as seen with GT7 and R&C. Basically if you aren't using it for lighting then you aren't using it right. Hell if you aren't going to do triangle raytraced GI then at least use Voxel GI.

On console, surprisingly, yes.

It was Microsoft that made all the early noise about ray-tracing, but it's the PS lineup that it's everywhere in, with games seemingly far closer to shipping.

A really underrated surprise of that showcase. People thought that 1: It wasn't going to be very viable on console, and 2: That it would barely show up on PS5.

Instead, we even have games running at 4K, with smart usages of ray-tracing that look absolutely great.
 
Sony is the only one showing it, no? Assuming you are talking about consoles only that is. Maybe I missed it on other games other than MS showing a Minecraft demo.

With the DF XBox coverage we now have confirmation. Fuck all RT outside of the "in-engine" "not-on-console" "early in development" Forza video.
Cross-gen focus working out great!
 
No, lot of compromise needs to be made for RT. Moreover Xbox has more powerful gpu. If I remember correctly Cyberpunk 2077 and Watchdogs2 were running 1080P DLSS2.0 with max settings, RT on RTX2080ti which is far superior to these consoles.
 
I get that you guys are taking a victory lap, but RT will always be better on series x. if you really care about RT, either build a $2000 PC for next gen or get a series x. that 18% tflops difference is going to come in handy when both PS5 and XSX multiplats choose native 4k 30 fps and use the rest solely for ray tracing.

Also, you forgot Pragmata which is arguably the most impressive ray traced game at the show because its using ray traced reflections and GI.

I think RT and overall gfx in multiplats will be same. Xbox probably will run games at little higher resolution or have more stable fps

Can't believe you're still pushing this shtick.

SoD 3 was purely CGI as was Avowed, HellBlade No Show 2, and Fable. Halo Infinite's gameplay trailer wasn't even running on XSX hardware......The whole show was a PR disaster.

For the price of a console, yes.
Sony has to push the fidelity in its exclusives even if it sacrifices a bit of resolution and frame rate.

But, imagine how Halo, Gears, Forza and others will run in RTX 3000 and Ryzen 4.
 
i hope not, let devs use resources for something else, state of the art precanned light are still good to me.
 
No. Full path tracing with Minecraft and just better ray tracing hardware on the Xbox will likely cause more 3rd party games to have it on the Xbox rather than PS5. Of course we'll have to wait and see.

Sony does seem to be doing a good job with ray tracing as well though.
